Chapter 5: Chapter 5
I look at the people and occasionally, I'd find myself lost in their mere appearance. They look so human, nothing like a barbaric creature, or killers.
"Are these the Vampires?" I ask, darting ny eyes to them in gesture.
"Yes. Well, most of them. There are some other Originals in town as well, but they soon will be leaving for their own territory." Nicklaus explains, his words fascinating me even more.
From part of his remaining explanation, he mentioned that they have many more territories across the globe, something like branches in human terms. They can relocate to these other territories for hiding, or rejuvenation. He tells me that the Originals are fewer compared to the Vampires since they are like their pre-existing kinds, while the hybrids are the evolutionary ones. It's such an interesting story to listen too even as it actually isn't. Nevertheless, the Originals are still the ruler of each territory, a title given to them since the first and still existing guardian within the cave is an hybrids, do this makes them respected and they ruling the Vampires could earn them chance to be forgiven, and accepted by nature wince thy manage to rule well, and not let their aloof part precipitate.
The car stops in front of an averagely built two-storey building, made with wooden materials. The house isn't that extravagant, but it's decors allures its beauty more than anything. The spacious compound is designed at the middle with a flower fountain, and on its top is an acorn statue, all making some kind of turn-around. Nicklaus gets out of the car after he's parked it next to the pavement whose sides are planted with eclectics kinds of trees; twin coconut, banana, and palm. I snatch my eyes off those beauty, and take the door's handle when I see Nicklaus' blurry figure move from the driver side to mine and opens the door for me.
"Thanks." I whisper and gaze around again. He walks a step in front of me, leading me into the house. At the same pavement are list of wildflowers, and flowerbeds, flourishing and shining under the not-so-harsh sun, and at a side are two boulevards, in between them is a sundial.
I gulp as a lump form inside my throat when we step on the case to the front door, which at its sides is a wooden lamp, not understanding myself. I just don't know why I get nervous when the event is near. Shouldn't I have been prepared for this?
"Follow me." Says Nicklaus and tilt his head to a side, indicating that I enter after him. I do so, and see no one in sight. The interior isn't any way bad too. Don't this long life creatures does knows how to decorate?
Just as I dismiss the thought before Nicklaus catches me, he says. "Sit, I'll soon be back."
Sitting on the soft sofa, watching the amazing portraits of naturalism, multiple footsteps approaches the room and I pull my dress in an attempt to make myself look better. Look better? If you look better to them, that means you're going to be sucked. My subconscious at least says the truth this time.
"Rayne, how are you?" Anastasia ask me and pulls me into a light hug, making me stand up in the process. Thank goodness, they like me. Oh, if they like me... I don't even know what to think. All I can think is that if they find me attractive, that means they want to drain me. No. Nicklaus finds me attractive, and didn't mean to drain me.
"I'm fine. You?"
"Always great." She declares as she releases me and access me from arm's length. Putting down her hands from my shoulders, I catch Adeline smiling at me as well.
"Um, why don't you guys excuse us for a while, while we show Rayne around?" Anastasia says and Nicklaus and Aaron nods and leaves.
I watch as they get out of the house, slamming the door behind them that I almost flinch on the outside.
"Oh, don't panic, dear. It's normal." Oh, yeah, that's normal for Anastasia's mentality, but for mine, it is not so. To them, they hadn't slammed the down. Weird!
"Oh." Is all I remark. Adeline walks over and taps me on the shoulder.
"You should try to calm. It's so distracting, because your heart thuds too fast, there by pumps more blood, and your veins ticks too fast as well, which is a bad thing to happen when with Vampire of any kind." She tells me, this time, she talks slowly and instructively. I nod, but fail to control my nerves.
"We also feed off humans fears. This are one of things you are to learn in your time here. You should know how to frighten a Vampire as well, though we can't be frightened by your kind, but still give us something to think that we don't scare you." Anastasia chimes in, smiling as she explains further. Adeline hums, agreeing with what she's said. I remain as I was.
"Okay, I think I have something for this Rayne. Why don't we hang out? Watch some movies?" Her cerulean eyes are on me, narrowing at my figure.
"That sounds great." Did I just squeal?
Sure! They both laugh and pull me friendly and childishly to a room. The lights gets dimmer and dimmer as we walk further down the hallway, and is my heart. I can feel the little uncomfortability in Adeline's face as she's scrunching it weirdly, while Anastasia looks utterly not disturbed. Is it my over pumping blood's effect? The question doesn't even help in a bit as all my body respond in is increasing the anxiety.
Anastasia opens a door when we stop all of the sudden, and we enter the dark room. I see little lights, but still can't make out of what my vision really translate.
"I know this is all overwhelming, but don't worry, okay? We'll be bossom soon." I hear Adeline's fast tone in a disembodied manner. Anastasia giggles.
"Better turn on the lights, before Rayne faints." Says Anastasia's voice. It was offended to me since it's the truth.
A rather dim spotlight flicks on from a side of the room, and that's when I see that I'm in a Cinema room.
"You guys have a Cinema in here?" I ask, all bravery. But I think it's rather astonishment.
"Sure. And that's the voice." Finishing saying, Adeline runs off from front of me, leaving my hair to no choice than to fly up untamed and comes back in same speed. The large screen comes to live and I take a seat next to Anastasia, while Adeline takes mine, both of them, leaving me to be in between them.
It's dusk when we finally decide to stop the series of movie watching. Adeline runs off again to go and off the screen, while Anastasia and I stroll to the exit door.
"Thanks for, you know—"
"You don't have to say anything. Only if you know what you're offering us." She tells me, riddling her words. I want to ask what you meant, but Adeline has returned, and is fuming that we didn't wait for her. We pull the small talk into a facetious argument and getting back to the living area, I haven't seen Nicklaus yet. I don't know if I should ask of him. What if it seems somehow, I mean, like I can't be without him? Yeah, I know that's bizzare of me.
"Let me show you to your room." Adeline offers, but Ana stops her.
"Don't you think Nicklaus should show her?"
"He's not around." Her eyes turns to me. "She looks tired, and can't wait until he's back." Adeline reads me, and Ana gives up, letting her take me to 'my' room.
It's exquisite. The glass-beaded ceiling gives a very blurry illustration of the night's light. There's the low light of the bedside lamp, giving the room a reason to glow in its sapphire blue colour. After Adeline has left, I realize that truly I'm so tried and will love a goodnight sleep. I take off my shoes and clothes in the closet and hang them onto the rack, then slip into Nicklaus' oversized shirt. The white clothing, slipping off one of my shoulders to reveal my cleavage and since its hem is covering my body to my thighs, I decide not to wear any pants. Once done, I make my way back to the king-sized bed, and sleep at the left side since last time, Nicklaus takes the right one. I don't know if he'll be coming back here today from the way Adeline had told me he's went out on a business, but still, I left the space and sleep off into a dreamless slumber.
I shuffle on the bed, roll to the right side, but feel no one's presence so I sit up and look at the empty space. Why hasn't he arrived yet? I think to myself, as I check the time to see it's two in the midnight. I make a lame laziness sound as I get off the bed and walk to the living area. Adeline is there, watching a supernatural romantic movie. Her head turns to me when she senses me, her face more paler and somewhat lifeless. God knows when last she's slept.
"I slept yesterday." She tells me, shocking the shooting hell out of me.
"I'm sorry. It's just my thoughts." I am quick to apologize. I don't know why. It's not like I enforced the thought. It just came.
"Don't be. What's up?" She changes the subject as she focuses back to the television.
"Um, do you know if Nicklaus would be coming back any time soon?" I think I hear her lowly snicker, but I can't be sure.
"I think he's came back. Go behind the house, you should see him at the lake. If he's not there, then that means he hasn't came back." She directs and I smile flashily at her before going to said direction.
The air is not so cool as I've anticipated. I wonder when last my anticipation has came to pass. I quickly push away thought relating to what's happened so far, but at the back of my mind, it keeps coming back like a rotating thought. The compound is so lit with the wooden street lamp, and I make my way to the back of the house, brushing my fingers against the trimmed flowerbeds. They seem to still glitter under the dimmed light.
