Chapter 88: Chapter 88

I was staring at my door for almost five minutes. I repeated what Mommy said several times in my mind before she went out. I don't know if I should go out or just stay in my room. But I thought, the woman is innocent in everything. If anyone can be called a victim of what is happening, it is her.

I have no idea why she is here. Is it to threaten me? To make me look even more ashamed of what I did?

I took a deep breath and composed myself for a moment. Maybe I have to finish the mess I made, I have to apologize. After being satisfied with my appearance, I slowly moved to go out. Every step I take seems to squeeze my heart with the fact that I really made a mistake.

I immediately saw Agustine's fiancee sitting on the sofa when I got off. Our eyes met. Even though he didn't say anything, I could feel the anger and pain from her eyes. I sat on the one-seater couch that was on the side of where she was sitting when I finally got closer.

"I'm sorry," I murmured.

I spoke first. She automatically answered me with a scoff. She gave me a sharp look.

"Do you know what you did? Do you know what you broke?"

I secretly pinched my finger that was fixed on my leg. As I expected, I was once again overwhelmed by the questions she threw at me. I know that I am not the only one who made a mistake with Agustine and I, even so, that will not change the fact that I have sinned. There is no need to measure or find out who has the greater sin of the two of us because no matter where we go, I will not change that I am part of the fraud.

I just took a deep breath and sincerely looked at the woman I was talking to. "I'm sorry. I mean it." Tears were slowly forming in my side eyes. "I-I.. will not get near him again," I continued—stuttering—thinking about my trip to America.

The woman stared at me for a moment. Confusion flashed through her eyes for a moment. Later it returned to being angry and looked at me coldly.

"You should. Even if it's not for me, even if it's just for our child and Agustine."

I felt like a cold water was suddenly poured into my body. My mouth parted as I stared back at her. I watched her dig into her bag. From there she took out a smartphone and pressed for a moment. After that, she slowly dropped it on the table, revealing a family wallpaper on the screen—her, a kid, and Agustine. Sitting on Bryll's lap was the girl who I think was four to five years old, behind him was the girl I was talking to right now. They were all smiling on the picture—a happy family indeed.

My body trembled. Tears escaped my eyes as I realized the depth of the sin I had committed. I completely lost my strength.

I almost wrecked their family. I almost broke someone's home.

"I did not come here to fight with you," she said, I could feel the escaping sadness in her tone even though she was trying to calm down. "I came here to beg. I don't know what happened to you and Agustine, but please. Even for our child, have mercy."

My tears continued streaming as I heard her plead. I only nodded in response. I don't know how to think straight these days. Yes, as I've said, I'm at fault too. But now, I suddenly felt betrayed.

"He cleared your name," the woman spoke again.

I didn't raise my eyes to her. Cleared? Her gaze remained cold at me.

"I don't know why he did that when it was the first place, he really planned to destroy you."

I blinked twice and tried to understand what she said. "W-what do you mean?" I asked, my heart racing as I waited for an answer from him.

"I let him leave Manila because I understand his anger. I let him go on his revenge plan even though I didn't expect it to reach... something will happen to you two. I thought he would only destroy your name, your businesses, I thought that was all," she said.

I unconsciously shook my head. "You don't need to make up a story. I will stay away from him even if you don't do that. The fact that he's a family man is reason enough to cut all my connections with him." I tried hard to speak even with my shaky voice.

"I am not making up a story. I am telling this for you to know that it was just a game for Agustine. I don't know why the direction of his plan changed but that is the truth. He went to Vista Querencia to take revenge, " she said firmly.

I rose up from my seat. "You are lying," was all I said. "You can leave now. Don't worry, you won’t even see my shadow. I won't bring myself near Agustine ever again, you can count on it." I turned my back and started walking to take my leave.

"Your stepmother had an affair with his father."

My feet seemed to stick to the floor when I heard that. Even though I had my back turned, I felt her get up from the couch and then walk towards me, towards my front. She met my eyes.

"Agustine came here for a revenge because your mother, Francheska Dagsinal, had an affair with his father. The reason why Agustine's family was destroyed. He came into your world to target her daughter, but then, you came in the picture. The illegitimate daughter of the Dagsinal clan," she said clearly, point by point.

My knees finally gave out. I fell to the floor while processing all of the information I found out into my brain. The times when Agustine and Mommy Francheska met came back to my memory. The way my mom looked at him at the hospital, the way she purposely escaped meeting Agustine that night.

"I don't know why you became his target. Maybe because you are the easiest one?" she uttered.

I lifted my gaze at her as I remained sitting on the floor. "Why are you telling me this?" Another bunch of tears streamed down to my cheeks.

"Because like I said, I don't know what Agustine's plans are. Why did he clear your name even though it was already in his plan. Is it because it drags his name too? Or he still wants to continue his plan of ruining you, big time. Let's just say, I am warning and helping you with his possible plans."

"Why would you do that?" I asked.

"Because I want him to go home. I want him to come back to me and my daughter." Her voice cracked. "So, push him away. Show him that he has nothing to gain from his target anymore."
