Chapter 48: Chapter 48
Louis Hayden wasn't expecting to see or meet Pamela just as he stepped out of the elevator with Miranda's hand in his.
They paused and Pamela did the same. For some seconds, they both stared at each other and Pamela's eyes lingered down to his hands and she saw their fingers intertwined with each other.
She looked past them to the elevator. The first impression she had of them at that moment was that they were lovers and had come over to cool off their lunch in each other's arms on a bed, behind closed doors.
Louis Hayden didn't bulge nor let his hands off Miranda's. He was just focused, staring at Pamela's face. When she saw their hands, he saw her facial complexion flushed red.
Next her eyes became reddened. He doesn't know what to think but he perceived she was jealous. A flash of jealousy appeared on her face.
"Hello Miss Johnson" Miranda Alvan chimed. She tightened her grip on Louis' hand. Many women want to be the one he falls in love with.
She can guess that Miss Johnson probably has a crush on him already. Louis would always experience this until he goes public with someone he loves. Only then can other women stay away or bottle up their feelings for him.
"Hello" Pamela forced a smile. Then she gently passed by them and went away. She can't bear to exchange pleasantries with them, not with the turmoil in her heart at the moment.
Louis Hayden turned to glance at her but Miranda Alvan tucked him that they should go. "That woman definitely would have a crush on you" she teased.
"Mm..mm" Louis Hayden grunted. He looked forward to it being true. Though he perceived that she was jealous, he can't automatically classify it as having a crush on her.
"I won't let anyone have you until you are ready to be with the one who loves and cares about you" Miranda Alvan chimed.
And she is that person. She wasn't going to let him be taken away from her by another woman. She wants to nurture her feelings for him to see and notice.
Louis chuckled softly. She must be a joker. Not wanting anyone else to have him except with someone that loves him? He hopes that "someone" is not who he is thinking about?
Pamela got into her car and quickly got a tissue paper. She cleaned her tears before anyone could notice it. What the hell was she thinking a while ago?
He is free to be with whoever he likes. She can't possibly expect him to stay stuck in the past like herself. He has to move on, Meet someone else and stay happy.
But she hasn't found that happiness after she left him. The worst of her loneliness and desire had been when she met him again.
He looked completely different from the Louis Hayden she was married to. Now, he looked so cute and charming that his grey eyes were seductive and alluring.
Why was she having this feeling? She thought after trying to ruin him and send him bankrupt that feeling would get suppressed. But no, it only got heightened by her actions.
She must never flop like she did a while ago before him. She would make him think she has a crush on him or a feeling of love. His head will be filled with things that are not real.
She tried to concentrate on herself but her heart beat faster. A part of her makes her uncomfortable. It kept tucking at her if what Louis Hayden would be thinking was actually not real?
She shrugged and shoved that thought off. Whatever, he could think whatever he wants, she doesn't care.
Hardly had Pamela returned to the office after lunch when her grandmother called her. She said she needs to come over to the hospital immediately.
She tried to ask her grandmother what happened or who was in the hospital but the latter said she should come over and find the answers that she seeks.
Confused, she got her bag and told her assistant to cancel every meeting and appointment she was supposed to have.
She was restless. Her kids, she hoped they hadn't gotten into some mischief that would land them in the hospital? Those kids, especially the boys, are something else.
When she arrived at the hospital, she was surprised to meet her grandparents in the doctor's office and told her to come over to join them.
Lucas Wright recovered gradually and decided to return home. He was glad he was still alive. He would find Pamela and apologise to her and he would live a peaceful life forever.
He is no longer interested in going to join Mr Freddie in his brother-in-law's place. He would go back to his mother and be with her.
At least, his only issue with his mother was because she remarried after his father's death to his dad's best friend. Why wouldn't she be married to someone else, why her late husband's best friend.
But as it is, he would return to her and he certainly knows he would be welcome home. He asked his lawyer to help him home.
Gladly the man agreed and was surprised when the address that Lucas gave was somehow familiar to him. He didn't say anything but drove him there.
Amelia Wright was going shopping when she saw a car drive to her parking lot. She stood at the threshold and was dazed when she saw her husband's lawyer step out from the driver's side.
He walked over and opened the door for Lucas. Amelia Wright was dazed when the fellow that was helped out of the car was her son.
Lucas! She dropped her handbag and carefully descended the steps, taking each step with caution as she walked towards her son.
It's been ten years and Lucas disowned her as his mother. She had tried to plead with him to come back but he refused. He didn't want to see her at all.
Eventually, he got a restraining order and forbade her from coming to find him again. She had sobbed and waited for him that one day he would return to her.
And ten years later, he returned. Her tear filled eyes almost blinded her vision as she got before Lucas and embraced him.
The mother and son pair started sobbing on each other's shoulders. Lucas' lawyer squinted, is Lucas the son his client had always talked about?
"Mother" Lucas whispered. He had to put a lot of difficulty to utter the word. He was sobbing and his voice seemed choked.
"Lucas," Amelia whispered back. Glad her son came back to her. This is the best thing that has ever happened to her. Her dear son came back to her.
"I'm sorry Mom" Lucas apologised. He left his mother because of a flimsy unreasonable thought. He got restraining orders against her and didn't even let her come to his wedding with that whore.
He got money and didn't remember he should visit his mother or check on her. And now that he lost everything, he returned to her. He brought his wounded heart and his bruised body back to her.
He is ashamed of himself. If she threw him out of her house, she's right. He's committed a lot of sins in his life that he wondered if he would ever be able to atone for them.
"Welcome home Lucas," Amelia replied. She cleaned the tears off his eyes and together with the lawyer helped Lucas inside the cottage house.
"Rest a while. I will bring you food" Amelia replied. She hurried off to the kitchen and Lucas' lawyer decided to leave.
Louis Hayden returned to his office. He was just thinking about Pamela. She's beautiful, smart and sweet. Such a woman is what he desires.
Will she be having some unhealthy opinion about his relationship with Miranda? She looked jealous a while ago. He could tell from her eyes, looks and change in complexion and eyes.
If a woman starts getting jealous over a man, it could only mean she has feelings for him in her heart. Same goes for the other. He can't deny the fact that he has something in his heart for her.
Not now that she returned, but after he knew everything and the details of their marriage. He is greatly obsessed with her.
He had also thought her return would usher them both into a time of bonding and getting together, but the woman she had become is such that they can not be together again.
And what she did to Hayden's group left him speechless. He finally got convinced that she hates him with passion. And for that singular reason, he would try to avoid having encounters with her.
And his kids, one day he would get to meet them. Until then, Pamela Grayson or Johnson whichever one she calls herself can remain in her place and he, Louis Hayden will not go beyond his boundaries.
But if he was ever privileged to be with a woman, she must be Pamela Grayson.
"What happened to her exactly?" Pamela asked. She doesn't like it that the doctor was beating around the bush. He said her daughter's case is in an acute state.
But acute state of what? She knew Dora hadn't been feeling well for sometime now. But she wants to know exactly what is wrong with her.
Her grandma said they've called a specialist who was attending to her, hence she stayed relaxed. But receiving an emergency call to come over to the hospital and now, she heard that her daughter was in an acute state.
"You need to calm down, miss Pamela. Your daughter had been examined carefully and it was discovered that she is in the last stage of leukaemia…"Dr Nathan was explaining when Pamela interrupted him.
"Dora? Leukaemia? Last stage of it?" She asked in succession. Immediately her eyes became teary and the tears started running down her cheeks.
"That isn't the end. We can still save her and she would be fine. But the first thing right now is to get a suitable blood donor to sustain her before we subject her to chemotherapy and then a stem cell transplant" Dr Nathan explained.
Pamela had already lost her composure. When did she become so sick that it got to the last stage before it was being detected?
Wasn't there a paediatrician who was attending to her? What happened that she got to this stage before it was discovered?
"Grandma, where is the doctor attending to the kids in the past. Why wasn't this detected until its last stage? Why now? I will sue the doctor already" Pamela queried amidst teary eyes.
"There is some leukaemia that cannot be detected in time until it gets to its last stage. And the one affecting your daughter is one of such. But I don't think that is necessary right now, we should save your daughter's life and not stall for time" Dr Nathan advised.
"Please go ahead, doctor. My great granddaughter's life is at stake here" Tarvan Johnson declared.
Dora had not only fainted, she's become unconscious and the doctors said she doesn't have much time left. They could talk about everything and anything when she's out of danger, not now.
Pamela asked to go and see her daughter while she's been testing and ready for a quick transfusion. The hospital would arrange for that while they paid their bills.
She went into the intensive care unit and found her poor little four years old daughter lying pale on the bed. She looked helpless and a lone tears fell off her eyes.
"She will be alright. The doctors would arrange for everything and we would pay our bills" Clarion pacified her.
She was trying to be strong for Pamela's sake. She had also sobbed earlier and Tarvan had told her to be strong that Dora is going to come out of it all a better healthier girl.
Pamela nodded. She hoped the doctors would do something fast. She's afraid to lose her daughter. She can't afford to let one get lost out of the quadruplets. Her only daughter.
They sat down and soon the doctors emerged and announced that Dora's blood type is rare. She's AB negative. And those having such blood types are just 1% of the entire country's population.
Hence they don't have the blood in the blood bank. They needed to source for it and that is going to take some time. But while they are doing so, they could try to find a family member who might be of the same blood type.
Pamela became restless. Where on earth can she get someone with such blood type. Dora was in danger and didn't have much time left to save her.
saw was Louis Hayden.
