Chapter 45: Chapter 45
Pamela didn't take another step. She stood where she was with reddened eyes. If she had known that Leah was downstairs and she was the reason her granny sent for her, she wouldn't have come downstairs. She would have found a random reason not to.
Clarion glared at Pamela with hostility and asked authoritatively "Was Leah saying the truth a while ago? You are Louis' ex wife and the royal quadruplets are Louis' kids?
Is it also true that you were responsible for the sudden bankruptcy the Hayden's group experienced recently. Are all these claims true?"
Clarion's words were being uttered distinctively and gently. She glared at Pamela as if trying to read her mind before she would ever give an answer to her questions.
Pamela said nothing. Of course every single question her granny just asked her is true. But they were at the same time, her best kept secret.
She looked away, her eyes reddened. She doesn't want to lock eyes with her granny. She sniffled and wouldn't look in the direction where her grandma stood.
"Royals don't have to ask a question twice before they get the answers at the snap of her fingers," Clarion reminded her.
"Yes, it's all true. But it doesn't end there. My marriage with Louis Hayden was not the regular usual type lovers are eager to be in" Pamela answered.
There was a long silence between the two women. Clarion stared at her granddaughter. What might have happened, what kind of union did the duo have?
The first day she sighted Louis Hayden, she saw the faces of her great grandkids in him. But she merely waved it off as a coincidence.
"I meant it granny. Louis was not in the picture when I married him. He was in a coma and I was given off, maybe I should say I was sold off to the Hayden's family by my foster parents.
I became pregnant by surrogacy. Louis and I never had sex, in fact we have never come intimate. But he divorced me when he regained consciousness. And the height of his inconsideration was that he…" Pamela trailed off.
She started sobbing. Louis was ruthless and merciless when he forced her into his car and paid the bills for her abortion, his own children.
How much is his inhumanness, how can someone treat her so despicable and when she had a chance to pay him back, everyone seemed to frown at it, why?
He only showed her a ruthless part of him even when she did nothing to deserve it. Everyone has gotten a ruthless part. She had also shown him hers and now, his mother was here to threaten her.
"Did Leah Hayden know her son did all these?" Clarion asked and Pamela replied that she wouldn't know. She never got a chance to tell her what her son did to her.
"Is Louis aware that you carried his child or children as the case may be?" Clarion probed further. She wanted to know why Louis would divorce a woman that got married to him in his dying state and wouldn't even spare her for the sake of the pregnancy.
"He didn't know initially. When he did, he forced me to have an abortion. He called the baby a distraction and he doesn't want it. I only had to strike a deal with the doctor who spared me" Pamela answered.
Clarion squinted and was taken aback. What ruthlessness, why would Louis Hayden do that to Pamela? Because she's a nobody back then or because he felt she didn't deserve him.
She was wrong to judge Louis too quickly as a good guy, befitting to be Pamela's boyfriend. He has such a personality in him and she has no idea.
Thank goodness. She'd known this. She is never going to let her granddaughter be with such a man. Things need to be settled amicably and let Pamela live her life, leaving her past behind.
"You should have told me. Striking hard on Louis Hayden the way you did, can never be justified. He is your ex husband and the father of your kids. No matter what happened, those kids will forever be Louis'.
If you had told me this before, I wouldn't have let you do it in your way. But then, to protect your reputation and that of the kids, let's do things right.
Most especially, the reputation of the royal family. You can't let dent come to it. It is our collective responsibility to see that we protect the name of the royal dynasty.
We have to pay Leah a visit. And then, I want Louis Hayden to be there. It's just the two families. Then we think of ways to sort this whole mess out.
Leah is bitter against you. You don't know the extent to which a woman can go to protect her son. We have to calm Leah before this whole thing escalates…"Clarion explained.
Pamela nodded and Clarion told her she could leave. There's going to be lunch in the Hayden's Mansion at noon. She will ensure she had Louis also be present.
Meanwhile, Louis Hayden had gotten into his car and returned to Hayden's cooperation. He informed his legal team about Mirabel's proposal and what they stand to get from cooperating with her.
But the cooperation goes along with some initial finance obligations. He wants them to sign a deal with Mirabel's lawyers and get everything official.
After hearing Louis' words and the prospect and opportunity such partnership would bring them, they all applauded him and said they were going to rise beyond their initial height.
They would go ahead to sign the deal and make it a done deal. Meanwhile, they asked Louis Hayden if they should take action against the P and D4 group for trying to ruin them.
Louis said it wasn't necessary. The few exchanges of words he had with his father that morning, made him realise that the P and D4 group website had been hacked into and their product formula had been infiltrated in.
That was enough to teach Pamela a lesson. He objected to it immediately. Pamela was having his kids and he didn't want anything that he would regret later.
He's had enough regrets already. What he needs now, is to stay back and bask in the euphoria of the debt he had paid. He owes Pamela nothing and she also had done nothing to him.
His father said ok. If that is what he wants, he would have his men withdraw from it. As a matter of fact, those kids in Pamela's care are also part of the family.
When his men left his office, his mind drifted off to Pamela. Was he hard on her the previous day? He was furious and even left his suit jacket in her office.
He knew she was trying to get back at him. But considering it carefully, he realised that she might not be at fault really. She was only giving back to the society, what they imputed in her.
She had felt his wrath and his tongue lashing. He had been mean and ruthless towards her in the past, especially for enforcing her to have an abortion.
Now, she fights back. She wants to hurt him and she did. He no longer feels furious about it. Sowing sore grapes really means you're definitely going to harvest a sore grape.
Once he gets notified that the deal had been signed, he would take Mirabel out for lunch. They were first class mates and then they became friends. As it is now, she's become his partner and they might have to see each other more often.
Leah alighted from the car, Ellis was waiting for her. The latter has been worried about her. He doesn't know where exactly she's been and leaving so early, he felt worried.
Though Louis already told him his mother was likely to be at the Johnson's Mansion. He still felt concerned. This whole thing is getting him uncomfortable.
He would take her out for a vacation. She needs to rest her mind and be happy. He won't let her get weighed down by all these incidents that seemed to surround them.
"Good morning, Ellis" Leah smiled wearily. The smile was obviously forced and it's so visible that Ellis didn't smile back at her, rather he looked worried.
"Why are you doing this to yourself?" Ellis inquired, looking unhappy.
