Chapter 42: Chapter 42
Louis Hayden was dazed when his meeting with Miranda Alvan ended. It made his day. He didn't expect that such an opportunity was going to pave a way for him to a better height.
He ended up having the meeting until late in the night. The scientist and the expertise in bringing that project to a reality also joined them.
Louis agreed and asked that they draw a contract to that effect. Before venturing into the project as a partner, they needed to have some legal action binding them together.
Miranda Alvan agreed and said she would have her lawyers contact Louis Hayden's lawyers and bring up a contract for them both to sign.
"But tell me Miranda, how were you able to keep so much secret after your father died?" Louis asked.
There was a rumour back then that her father was assassinated by unknown men. Investigation revealed that he had invented a machine and those after him kidnapped and wanted him to cough out the mechanical procedure he used in producing the machine.
But Mr Alvan rather died than expose that fact. Though rescued, he was shot at the last minute and he couldn't make it, he died.
But to discover that Miranda now has the procedure with her and wants to invent what her father couldn't achieve. She sought for a trusted person to partner with and Louis Hayden was the only name she could think of.
"I didn't know about it myself. It was two years ago that my dad's lawyer called me and let me have it, "Miranda replied.
She didn't want to tell Louis that her husband was after the procedure when he married her. He had thought she had it and slyly made her fall in love with him.
It was later she realised that he loves someone else and not her. He was only with her to lay hands on her father's hard work.
Anyways, they are divorced now. Needless to say that he almost strangled her to death. The memory of it saddened her heart so much.
"You are a strong woman, Miranda Alvan,"Louis Hayden declared.
An hour later when Louis arrived at the Hayden's Mansion, he felt so tired. He sank into the sofa. Leah saw his fatigued expression and hugged him.
"Ensure that you have a good rest, Louis" Leah coaxed, cupping his face and making him look directly at her.
" Alright mum. I guess I would spend the night here" Louis Hayden declared and stood up to go. Suddenly, he remembered something and turned to face his mother "I don't know if it's right that I should say this but then I have to tell you. Pamela was behind all that happened to the Hayden's cooperation"
Leah's cheerful stare disappeared and turned into a frown and to a hostile one. She glanced from Louis and then to Ellis and next to Louis again.
"It's Pamela. I had to tell you because I know it will break your heart and make you detest her. She's the one. But I think I am teaching her a lesson already" Ellis answered before Louis could continue.
Leah's eyes welled up with tears. Pamela did this to her son? She wouldn't let them have the kids and now, she comes after Louis and wants to ruin him?
What would she have been saying now, if Ellis hadn't supported Louis and made him rise up and stand on his feet. And even as it is now, his feet would probably still be wobbling.
How dare she do this to her son? Louis is her son, her only child. She wants to make him go into ruin? She will teach that little bitch a hard lesson.
"I didn't tell you this, to go even with her mum. I confronted her, and the only reason she did what she did was because she wanted to get back at me.
She wanted to destroy what she thinks I cherish the most. But she was mistaken. It wasn't the company that I cherished the most, my parents and those kids that I haven't been able to set my eyes on, are my most treasured assets.
But today mum, I think I have paid for my sins. I don't think I owe Pamela Grayson or Johnson, whatever the fuck her name is now, anything.
I hurt her. I tried to humiliate her and make her lose those kids, but it didn't work out that way. But she came after me and completely cost me the loss of billions. It's even now. We both are on the same page…" Louis declared.
Leah's eyes were teary. A lone tear fell off her eyes and Louis took his handkerchief, wiped the tear off. He smiled and kissed his mother.
"Good night mum and dad" he said and went upstairs. He was going to spend the night in his parents Mansion that night after many years. It looks great to be with his parents for the night.
Leah couldn't help but keep staring at Louis' retreating back view. Hadn't she brought pain to her own son by bringing Pamela into their lives?
"Stop giving it a thought, Leah. Everything is in the past now" Ellis persuaded, holding her in a side hug. He knows Leah too much not to guess that her mind will be filled with some regrets.
"What kind of a mother am I?" Leah asked, looking up at Ellis' face before continuing "why do I keep seeing my mistake. When will all these, ever end?" Leah asked, placing her hand on her chest.
Will there ever be a time when she wasn't going to remember the regret her past decision has caused her?
"Why are you fond of blaming yourself at every slightest opportunity? If the birds chirped, you would blame yourself. If the cock crows, you would blame yourself. If the cat meows, you would blame yourself.
Are you going to blame yourself again because of Pamela's unguided revenge? She did what she wanted and Louis staggered but he's standing again.
Why do you fault yourself every single time things go wrong? Just stop thinking that way already" Ellis cautioned.
That's why he didn't tell her much of the details when he discovered that Pamela was the mastermind behind Hayden's cooperation threats. He didn't want to tell her initially because he knew what she would think and say.
Leah placed her hand on Ellis' palm and gave it a soft squeeze. She nodded and smiled. She's glad, this isn't her fault at all. At least, Ellis said so.
While Hayden was happy that things were back in shape, Pamela was seated at the dinning. She couldn't have her dinner, there isn't just the appetite.
Louis Hayden was already working against her. What would happen if he decides to retaliate? Is not like she's afraid of him, she had her own team working to protect the P and D4 group.
But he is her kids father. Whatever she'd done to him, she's invariably doing to her kids. One day, an occasion would arise and they would have to meet each other.
And that aside, what if her grandparents discovered that she was Louis Hayden's ex wife? What will they think of her? One of the things she'd known about their personalities is that they hate deception.
What would she do next? She needed to act fast, and at the same time, try to keep her secret away from her grandparents for as long as she could.
Clarion Johnson came downstairs and was glad her granddaughter was home. She took a seat beside her. The worry on her face cannot be mistaken.
"Is anything bothering you, Princess Pamela? Clarion requested, staring at the reddened eyes of Pamela.
