Chapter 8: Chapter 8
Lucas was surprised that Louis called him. He was the last person he communicated with before leaving Texas and was going to be the first to talk to him in Oak City on his return.
"President Hayden" Lucas said, as soon as he answered the phone. He was pushing his suitcase into the master bedroom.
"It's me, Lucas," Pamela said. It's been days and there hasn't been any communication between them. She wants to apologise to him.
Pamela? Lucas was quiet for a long time. She's the one calling him via Louis' phone? She's with him now? He had deliberately avoided her, not answering his phone when she called and eventually blacklisted her.
Since Lucas was not talking to her or saying anything, Pamela continued "How have you been,Lucas? I missed you" she said and Lucas didn't respond.
Pamela was getting frustrated. She said in a weak voice "I'm sorry, Lucas. I knew I went overboard with my words and actions,I let my temper take a hold of my emotions, I'm sorry.
Please forgive me. I'm sorry Lucas. I tried reaching you, to apologise to you but you were nowhere to be found. I called but you won't answer your phone. I know you are upset with me, I'm sorry" Pamela apologised.
"Okay" Lucas replied in a syllable. He was going to hang up when Pamela added "I want to treat you to dinner,Lucas. How about we meet tomorrow?" She asked.
"No. I'm busy" and hung up. He sighed softly. It hurts the most when someone you love pokes you like Pamela did to him. He just wants to be alone, accepting invitations to dinner, lunch and the likes, and going back to the same people he doesn't want to be involved with.
Pamela was surprised that Lucas hung up. She glanced at Louis and the latter stood, akimbo staring back at her. "Lucas refused my invitation and hung up" she seems to be making a report.
Louis got his phone from her "you'll go and find him in his office tomorrow and talk to him. You tongue lashed him and called him a cheat publicly and humiliated him, that's too much from a friend to another friend" Louis declared.
"I already apologise to him" Pamela thought quietly within her. How else can she make it up to him if he declines her invitation?
"Lucas was right. You'll act before thinking and that makes you keep regretting your actions. Why? How can you reject Emma's pleas and requests and bashed Lucas simply because he suggested helping her?
I want us to get married. Is this how you will bash me at the slightest provocation?" Louis concluded and strolled off to his study.
Meanwhile, Emma had remained indoors since she was released from prison. Indoor means going to find her mother and uncle and plead that they accept her.
Greg Freeman was sceptical about opening his doors for her to come in, but Freya yearned for her daughter. She sobbed and pleaded that Greg accept Emma as his niece.
"Please Greg, let her live with us until she's able to find her feet again. We're the only family she's got left. Freddie is no more and Pamela had severed ties with us.
Where do we push her off to, no family anywhere else and no friends to go to…" Freya pleaded. She's a mother, and no matter how wrong a child has behaved towards her mother, once she feels remorseful and apologises, a mother would forgive her.
The heart of a mother is really softened. She cleaned her tears and gently took Emma into the house. Albert glared at his mother from a distance, and didn't feel like running towards her for a hug.
His mom looks thin and her complexion has darkened. Her bones appeared hollow and her eye socket became deep.
"Albert" Emma chimed but the fellow stood behind the sofa, and kept peeping at her. He didn't come near his mother nor was there an excitement on his face at the sight of his mother.
"Come to mummy" Emma pleaded, her arms open, her voice shaky and her eyes moist. Why is Albert not happy to see her? She's failed as a mother but he should hurt her back as a filial son.
She would make it up to him. She would need the broken wall between them. She would live her life henceforth to raise him and become a good mother.
She was still waiting for Albert's response as she thought of her life, her errors, her shortcoming and the silent decision to turn to a new life, to live the rest of her life properly when she heard Albert's words.
"No. I don't like you anymore" Albert blurted and ran off. Emma froze as her tears found their way down her cheeks.
Next morning, Pamela woke up feeling cheerless. It seemed to her as if she does not have a good night's sleep. But she knew she did. She slept early and woke up at the usual time.
She had thought Louis was going to make love to her but he didn't. He was off to his study and didn't return before she dozed off.
"Are you alright, my love?" Louis pulled her into his arms. He held her tightly, inhaling the scent of her hair. She wasn't looking well at all.
"I don't know," Pamela replied, placing her head on his torso. He smells masculine. She missed him for a few days already.
"Do you need to see a psychologist?" Louis asked, cupping her face in his palm and looking into her eyes. He was searching for what only he knows.
Pamela smiled. His grey eyes and sweet thin lips always make him attractive to be kissed. He is handsome and everything about him was perfect.
"No. I just want you to cuddle me a little. That will work like a medicine" Pamela teased. Louis chuckled softly and kissed her. He missed her too.
"I'll make it up to you, my love. I missed you so much" Louis chimed, planting a featherlight kiss on her temple and leaving his lips on her, inhaling her scent.
"Promise?" Pamela chimed, circling her hands around his neck and smiling sweetly at him. Louis smiled, bend his head and kissed her boobs before saying "I promise"
He deliberately punished her and left her longing for him before he travelled to Singapore. Now he's back and would catch up on those times they missed each other.
Pamela's phone chirped and She went to get the phone. She smiled broadly when she saw the caller ID was her grandma:
