Chapter 63: Chapter 63
Lucas stayed by Pamela's side the entire night. He told Romeo to return home and rest. He could come back the next day.
Early the next morning, Alice ensured the kids had been taken to school. She instructed the servants to take care of the house, and their boss will return home that day.
Pamela opened her eyes and saw Lucas sitting by her bedside, his head bent over and he was sleeping. She wondered if he really slept in the hospital.
She's starting afresh. Everything is ruined and lost. No parents, no grandparents. No boyfriend, no fiancée. No immediate family that loves her, no Job to sustain her.
She's only got her kids and the baby growing in her belly. She's got a foster sister and a good friend. Besides that, she's got nothing else.
Now that he's married, she has to move on with her life. One thing is certain about her life now, she probably wasn't destined to be happy in this life.
All the people that would have surrounded her life and made her happy are either dead or have severed ties with her.
She's afraid of losing Lucas and Alice. They might also wake up one day and walk away. Then her kids will grow up and abandon her. She'll be alone. She'd been jinxed to live without love.
The only thing that matters to her now is her kids. She would let him and his evil mother visit the kids, but she can't part away with them.
"Pamela" Lucas called. He had raised his head to glance at her, and check on her like he'd been doing all night and she was already awake.
Pamela turned and glanced at Lucas. She looked away and sighed. She doesn't feel like talking to anyone at the moment.
Seeing she didn't say anything, Lucas stood up and kissed her temple "I'll call the doctor" he said and dashed out.
Pamela saw the excitement in his eyes. He was worried about her. There seemed to be a little goodness in him towards her. He would have been her husband, he should have been.
The doctors came and examined her. They said she's perfectly fine and the baby in her belly is fine also. She went into shock. They asked if she received bad news or something terrible happened to a loved one.
Lucas glanced at Pamela and she shook her head. She doesn't want him to say anything. Lucas said "I'm glad she's alright. Nothing else is important" and smiled.
The doctors said okay. She would be discharged soon, after observing her a little more.
Alice arrived and walked in. The doctors saw her and chimed "Dr Alice, how have you been!" Pamela's doctor asked.
"I've been alright, doctor. How is Miss Pamela doing!" She asked and the doctor explained briefly to her and concluded that she would be discharged soon.
"How have you been sis?" Alice said, walking over and sitting by her bedside. She took Pamela's hand in hers and felt pity for the woman.
Pamela hadn't been able to shed a single tear from the moment she saw the post on social media. But Alice's question made her feel like she would start sobbing.
"I'm terrible, Alice" Pamela said and sniffled "I lost him Alice. I lost Louis to another woman. This is the second time I lost men that I truly love to other women.
The best I could ever get from any man is a proposal. First man did it, he said he loved me and proposed marriage to me. I was happy and excited, but he left me and married another woman.
This is the second time, he also said he loves me and made a marriage proposal as well. But that's how far I can get from him, he'd married another woman while I'm here, pregnant with his child.
Don't I deserve to be loved? Why are men treating me so cruelly? Why do they give me false, empty promises and then show me deceit?
They give me high hope, raise me very high and the next minute, they let their hands off me and I fall deep into the abyss. Why do I have to experience this side of cruelty from men that I was sure I loved?" Pamela asked, her tears running down the sides of her eyes.
Alice sniffled. She raised her head slightly and glanced at Lucas, his eyes had gone reddened. He saw Alice stare at him, she already knew that he was one of the men who had caused Pamela so much pain in love.
He didn't say anything but got out. Alice couldn't answer Pamela's question. She lost the second man she loved. And this time, she has kids with him and is currently expecting one.
"Do you by chance know why I feel rejected? I have never been a lose woman. I didn't have sex with my first man but Louis is my first and only man I'd had sex with.
Those Quadruplets were conceived by surrogacy. I was a mother but I was still a virgin. I gave my body to Louis and I thought I won't have to worry about anything because he would be my only man.
I don't know what I've done wrong that I cannot be happy for once. Was I jinxed to be like this? I've only experienced the cruel side of love. Now, I can only conclude that it's not real. Love is a scam!" Pamela concluded.
Lucas was inside his car and he bent his head and sobbed helplessly. He felt hurt more than Pamela when she talked about being hurt by men she loved.
How long does he have to pay for his sins and betrayals? Will this past haunt him for the rest of his life? Is this how he will live with this guilt forever?
He thought he had crossed that bridge. He thought he had left that life behind. But the pain of betrayals came afresh on Pamela and he feels her pain again.
Every pain that Pamela was feeling as a result of betrayals was caused by him. He hurt her and left her out to be hurt by many more people.
He wished he didn't jilt her. He wishes he could hold her in his arms and cuddle her and call her his wife. He wished life had shown her the beautiful life she could get through love and he would have been the man to pamper her in love.
Lucas doesn't know how long he was in the car, but he woke up to Alice's tap on his glass. He looked at his wristwatch, it was some minutes before twelve noon.
He looked weak and dejected. He rolled down the glasses and Alice said "Why do you blame yourself for what happened? Look at dry patches of tears on your face" she chided.
"How is Pamela now?" Lucas asked, not interested in Alice's words. Only he knows how he felt inside of him. He couldn't relieve himself if he didn't sob like this.
"She's being discharged. I came to find you to take her home. Besides, Romeo came to visit her and paid for the hospital Bills. When Ellis Hayden came, Pamela sent him away saying she doesn't need his sympathy" Alice gave an update.
Lucas shrugged. He somehow doesn't see anything wrong in Pamela's actions. She got in the hospital because of their son. They would do her a lot of favour if they stay away from her for the time being.
"Pamela wasn't blaming you. So please, don't blame yourself unnecessarily. She told me that whatever happens, you and I should not leave her one day. She believes in you as her best friend and I as her sister.
So just go in and make her smile. Don't add to her pains by your attitude and actions" Alice coaxed.
Lucas nodded. Just go in, I'll join you soon" he said and got a bottle of water from the car and washed his face.
"...she sent me out of her hospital ward. She thought I was a part of the conspiracy against her being with Louis. Heaven knows how much I love Pamela" Ellis sobbed.
