Chapter 35: Chapter 35
That evening, Lucas drove towards Pamela's Mansion. He hates to do it. He is not important like Pamela told him. But he's been to Louis' Mansion and no one was ready to tell him anything about her.
He called him and he answered absent mindedly. He said he would reach out to him later and he never did. When he tried calling him again, his line was blocked.
He suspected that something had gone wrong. Hence he decided to check on her at her place. If she's fine, he would walk away and not make the mistake of coming back.
When he arrived at her place, her security let him in. He got in and went to knock. He has told himself that he had shoved Pamela Grayson out of his life.
He had succeeded in doing that until that moment. He can't pretend not to know that the reason for his restlessness is because he couldn't talk to Pamela.
When he got to her door, he pressed the doorbell and waited. Pamela wanted to get up but Alice said she shouldn't bother. She went to the door and opened it.
Alice saw Lucas and she admired him at first sight. She smiled and Lucas smiled back at her. "Hello. My name is Lucas, I'm here to see Pamela" Lucas introduced himself.
"Yeah, sure. Come in" Alice chimed. Lucas smiled and lingered a little, not really wanting to intrude.
He reluctantly went in and stood by the doorway. Alice was impressed with Lucas' courteousness and she beckoned on him to step in properly.
Lucas did. Pamela turned herself to see who Alice went to get, and was surprised when she saw Lucas.
For a few seconds, the both stared at each other. Lucas glared at Pamela from her new blond hair down to her toes. He fixed his gaze on her eyes, red and puffy.
She's been sobbing? She looked devastated and unkempt. The once beautiful Pamela has reduced herself to this ill-groomed woman?
Her hair looked rough and her lips seemed dry like she had dehydrated. Where is Louis Hayden that Pamela is now like this?
"Lucas!" Pamela called and her tears came down afresh. Like an impulse, Lucas opened his arms and Pamela threw herself on him.
He held her tight, caressing her back gently. He didn't say anything yet, but allowed her to sob, to relieve herself.
"Pamela. What happened to you, why are you like this?" Lucas asked, now cupping her face and looking into her eyes intently. Those eyes were filled with sadness.
"A lot has happened to me these past few weeks" Pamela declared and looked away. She missed Lucas a lot. She didn't know he would come over to check on her.
"A lot? Tell me about it and let's begin with your hair. This is not your hair Pamela. So let's talk" Lucas declared, bringing her to sit down on the sofa.
Alice watched the two friends. They are good together. They seemed to pass for a couple. It's so sweet. She liked the man the moment she opened the door and saw him.
"I lost my hair, that's where the pain began from…"Pamela started, telling Lucas all that has befallen her.
Louis couldn't remember who she was. He was now entangled with Miranda Alvan, his business partner and associates on the robotic machine.
Lucas sighed softly. He glanced at Alice and said "Thank you doctor, for watching over my friend" with a smile. Alice nodded and smiled back.
Her guesses were right. They are friends. She subconsciously glanced at Lucas' ring finger and saw that he wasn't wearing a wedding band.
Pamela saw her glance at Lucas' finger and looked away. Lucas held Pamela's hands in his and smiled "I knew something went wrong.
I called Louis Hayden and he answered his phone, talking to me so casually. I suspected that he wasn't feeling alright at the moment. He promised to call me back and hung up.
Now I knew why his voice sounded the way it did. He couldn't recognise who I am. But don't worry, it won't be long. He would get himself back and would return to you.
Louis loves you a lot and you know it. He would eventually come around. Just give him a little more time. Meanwhile, I can't see my best friend looking so despaired.
Get in, change into a dress and do something to make you look prettier. I'm taking you ladies for dinner" Lucas offered.
Pamela smiled. She glared at Lucas' and the latter shrugged, giving her a temple a featherlight kiss. He kept smiling as he pulled Pamela up on her feet and gestured to her to go upstairs.
Pamela's eyes went teary. Lucas is a medicine, in times like this. This is the second time he's coming to salvage her wounded heart.
She turned and went upstairs. Lucas turned and glared at Alice with a broad smile. "The two of them love each other immensely. Louis Hayden would come crawling to her in apologies"
"I hope so. And I hope that happens soon" Alice sighed. She sank into the sofa and glanced at her wristwatch.
"I hope you will avail us the honour of joining us for dinner" Lucas chimed. His hands in his pants pocket.
"If you would be inviting," Alice teased. She chuckled and Lucas declared "Oh! You're invited my lady"
The both of them laughed. That moment, Lucas found Alice attractive. He glanced at her and then looked away. She's a beautiful woman.
"You've not really introduced yourself to me" Lucas declared. It's more of a statement than a question.
"I'm Alice. A friend that turned into a sister to Pamela" Alice replied, rolling her eyes jokingly. It seemed to her that she's known him for a long time.
Lucas chuckled. This woman is friendly. He had taken a liking to her already and everything she said seemed to interest him.
"Wow, that means Pamela needs a sister and she found one, from another mother" Lucas teased.
"Yes. And from another father as well" Alice added and Lucas nodded. "You are right, Alice. But did she tell you that her mother's name was Alice?" Lucas asked.
Alice stopped laughing. She glared at Lucas and said "I will pull Pamela's ears when she comes downstairs. She didn't make a mention of it to me"
"That might be the reason why you both bonded so easily," Lucas suspected. Just then Pamela descended the stairs, looking better and more beautiful.
Her puffy face was covered up with heavy makeup and her hair was well combed backwards. She looked like the Pamela she used to be.
"I asked your new sister if she knew your mother's name was Alice. And it turned out that she didn't know" Lucas asked Pamela as soon as she arrived before them.
She smiled. The two were already chatting like two old friends. She likes it that way. Lucas is a great guy and Alice appears to be a sweet woman too.
"My apologies. But then, I liked her as soon as I learnt her name is Alice and we bonded right there. It seemed to me that my Mom had visited me" Pamela teased, grinning broadly.
"Call me mother then!" Alice teased.
