Chapter 189: Chapter 189
Quentin Jennings at Cloudsea Group sneezed hard and rubbed his nose with a puzzled look: "Why is my nose so itchy today? Is someone badmouthing me behind my back?"
Desmond Fairchild said in a deep voice, "You do a lot of guilty deeds, no wonder."
"I don’t know if it’s just my illusion, but it feels like you’ve been talking more ever since you got together with Seraphina." Quentin stroked his chin, his eyes scanning Desmond with a probing look, and added, "Not only are you talking more, but you’re getting more sarcastic too; it seems you’ve been influenced subtly."
He had witnessed Seraphina Sinclair’s knack for teasing people—once she started talking, she had the other party speechless in no time.
Desmond used to be an iceberg who wouldn’t speak even a single word for ages, and now he was starting to tease people. This change is just too great.
"I guess I’ve been way too gentle with you lately." Desmond pushed the documents aside on the table, his long fingers tapping a crisp rhythm on the desk, even though his face showed no emotion, it gave an inexplicable sense of pressure.
Quentin Jennings was not afraid of death; he dared to touch the tiger’s whiskers.
He was actually very aware that the more normal Desmond’s expression looked, the more it meant he was in a bad mood.
So, he immediately lowered his head to admit his mistake: "Master Fairchild, I won’t talk randomly anymore. Please don’t send me to Africa! There are fewer beauties there, and I don’t fancy dark skin. If you send me to Europe, I could accept that."
"Book me a restaurant." Desmond ignored his nonsense and directly gave orders. Check latest chapters at novel_fіre.net
Quentin was stunned for a moment, then responded with a gossipy look in his eyes: "Celebrating a holiday? With Seraphina? What kind of restaurant do you want? Any specific requirements? Should we clear the place?"
Quentin was indeed a romantic rogue, with flirtation skills at MAX+.
Having such a scheming strategist around, although mistakes happen occasionally, Seraphina Sinclair fell for most of the tricks that enamored women.
Seeing Desmond keeping silent with a cold face, Quentin continued: "The night after tomorrow, there’s a big fireworks festival on the outskirts of Eastwood Borough, and there are Sky Lantern wish activities too. I have two tickets here; I think you might need them."
"She’s not an ordinary woman." Desmond thought that Seraphina Sinclair was different from other young girls and might not necessarily like such events.
"Even an extraordinary woman becomes a little woman in front of her boyfriend." Quentin placed the tickets on Desmond’s desk, "These tickets are for you, whether you go or not is up to you."
Saying this, he took out his phone and tapped away, saying without looking up, "As for restaurants, compared to the flashy smoke outside, having a candlelight dinner at home is more romantic for the couple."
Though Desmond’s face didn’t show much expression, he secretly took note of what Quentin was saying.
It soon was lunch time, and Desmond sent a text to Seraphina Sinclair: Don’t forget to eat lunch.
Seraphina Sinclair was shopping with Marcus Vance, her phone in her bag, not hearing the sound of messages.
As a result, Desmond waited long without a reply from her, his aura growing colder.
However, Seraphina was unaware of this, earnestly discussing with Marcus what might suit Desmond. They visited quite a few luxury shops but didn’t find an appropriate gift.
When it was lunchtime, they prepared to eat something and continue searching in the afternoon.
Sitting down, Seraphina finally took out her phone and, seeing Desmond’s text, quickly replied: Got it, you should remember to eat too.
Upon receiving her reply, Desmond’s mood quickly shifted from cloudy to sunny. He waved to his assistant, who promptly served the food in front of him.
The assistant didn’t understand what was happening; Desmond had been cold-faced, refusing to eat just minutes ago, and now suddenly eased up and wanted to eat.
Only Quentin, who was nearby, understood the reason and couldn’t help but sigh: Love really does lower one’s intelligence.
Because she wanted to surprise Desmond, Seraphina hadn’t told him what she was doing; when he asked, she merely said she was reading at home.
"Is it Master Fairchild’s text?" Marcus saw Seraphina responding even while eating and understood instantly.
Seraphina didn’t deny it; though she was complaining, her face showed happiness: "Is this man always this clingy? Asking all day if you’ve eaten or slept. So childish."
"That’s just with you." Marcus’s eyes gleamed slightly.
Seraphina also knew it was disrespectful to play with her phone during meals, so after replying to Desmond about reading, she put it down.
"Can you tell me what he was like before?" Seraphina was very curious inside.
They’d been together for a while, and Desmond had thoroughly understood her, yet she seemed never to have known Desmond. The sudden appearance of Anna previously caught her off guard, and she wondered how much more she didn’t know about him, sparking her curiosity.
Marcus propped his chin and looked at her with a grin: "About Master Fairchild’s past, I think you should ask him directly."
"You’re right." Seraphina expressed her understanding.
She disliked people prying into her personal affairs secretly, so doing it to Desmond wouldn’t be appropriate. But she suddenly understood why Desmond had investigated her before; when you like someone, it’s when you want to know everything about them without reason.
It’s not about distrust but wanting to know the past she wasn’t a part of.
After lunch, the two continued their search.
They arrived at a couture dress store, where Seraphina was drawn to several exquisite ties.
As soon as they stepped through the door, eager clerks surrounded them.
"Welcome in, can I help you with something?" A clerk in uniform bowed to Seraphina.
With their good attitude, Seraphina responded politely: "Hello, I’d like to look at ties."
"Certainly, please follow me this way." The clerk made an inviting gesture and walked a half-step ahead of Seraphina and Marcus, giving detailed introductions, "I don’t know which style you prefer; feel free to take them down for a try. If you have any requests, we can offer custom designs."
Seraphina slowly considered her options and took a fancy to a navy blue tie, pointing it out to the clerk: "Could I see this one?"
The clerk quickly fetched the tie and handed it to Seraphina, their gaze lingering on Marcus for a few seconds before smiling and complimenting: "Miss, your boyfriend has great charisma and is handsome; navy blue symbolizes mysterious nobility, and suits him well."
Upon hearing the compliment, Marcus’s expressionless face showed a polite smile: "You’ve misunderstood, we’re not a couple."
"Ah, I’m sorry, I thought you were an item because you look so fitting together, my apologies." Realizing their mistake, the clerk immediately apologized.
Seraphina didn’t mind and didn’t explain much. This tie was indeed quite nice, with a subtle color and an elegant pattern. However, she agreed with the clerk; while it was suited for Marcus, it might not be more fitting for Desmond.
