Chapter 54: Chapter 54
Shark In The Ocean
Chapter 54
Adam's Pov
I had a taste of death!
not just once, but several times. I was not unfamiliar with feelings of helplessness and hopelessness. I made it through a thousand times. Was it my good fortune or my desire to live?
I was beaten to death, resurrected from the dead, and faced every perilous situation that could have killed or erased me, but I never gave up.
That day was the same; death was dancing around all of us before we could even react. Unconcerned birds sang and danced around the vast blue sky.
The Nightwalker pack surrounded the Oak pack. The moment we had been anticipating arrived. I could smell Levine's scent all around us. We were all waiting for Levine to show up. For us, every second was a decade.
Our hearts were telling us he was alive while our minds were tricking us into believing everything was a deep mystery. Xavier's eyes were not even taken from him.
Marina set the trap or was she telling the truth about Levine, which would be revealed in a matter of minutes?
Artyom motioned, and one of his betas grabbed Marina's chain as she struggled to break free. Everyone is being pushed away.
"Keep your distance from me! I will murder you." Marina was threatening a member of the Nightwalker pack.
"Save your energy for later; you'll need a lot of energy with me," Artyom joked, laughing.
Marina was cursing Xavier, but her voice faded to Xavier as we all watched the Omegas of the Nightwalker pack bring Levine on a stretcher.
"He's been that way since he murdered Vladimir," Artyom explained.
That didn't matter whether Artyom lied or not at the time, but would Levine be okay? Xavier was concerned about that.
Omegas lowered the stretcher, and Xavier turned away after seeing bruises all over Levine's face and body. Xavier's near-crying eyes revealed how much he was distressed by Levine's deteriorating condition.
Xavier was working hard to keep his emotions in check in front of everyone. He was always good at masking his emotions. Nobody ever got to know him well because he was unpredictable and difficult to study for everyone.
I hadn't seen him cry since his parents died. He was silent for months, oblivious to everything around him, and unable to live in the present because he could not forget the past.
He found Levine, whom he had been looking for for a long time, but he couldn't bear the sight of his brother's deteriorating condition; Levine appeared to be in worse condition. It was difficult to predict how long he would live or whether he would die in the next minute.
"I hope he dies soon; you sold me to a monster because of him; I risked my life to save your brother, but you betrayed me; I will never forget that," Marina screamed angrily at Xavier.
Xavier didn't even respond to Marina's venomous remarks, instead taking a moment to process the fact that Levine's condition had deteriorated. When Marina was struggling, her beta was dragging her away with them.
"I hope we never cross paths again; you can keep your brother, and I'll keep the candy," Artyom said to Xavier as he walked away with his pack.
We were all staring at the unconscious Levine on the stretcher in the white gown, and Xavier couldn't turn to face his brother. He was pretending to be tough
"Get ready to leave; we'll be gone in four hours," Xavier said.
Nobody moved when they were watching him. We were all concerned about Levine's condition and intrigued by Xavier's calm demeanor, which was like the silence before the storm. He'd been battling an internal storm.
The brother he had been looking for for years was in poor health, and he didn't know how long he would live. What would Xavier's next unexpected move be?
"Did you not hear what I said?" Xavier yelled
Everyone was leaving.
"Since it's going to rain soon, should I bring Levine inside the camp?" Kris inquired.
"Yes," Xavier replied.
Before Kris and Ajay were holding the stretcher, Xavier mustered the courage to return to Levine, knelt, and checked to see if he was breathing.
Xavier checked his veins by placing his finger under his nose and holding his wrist. Xavier lowered his head, looking dull and unhappy.
"Is he—" I asked, my breath held.
"Alive," Xavier said, his eyes welling up with tears.
Levine was not moving because he was unconscious on the stretcher; he was severely injured and went untreated, which aggravated his injuries.
"Take him inside," Xavier said.
Kris and Ajay escorted Levine into the camp.
Things were settled amicably, but the war we started with the Demonix clan could be more dangerous for our pack.
We all had a bad history with the Demonix clan, which was still a nightmare for all of us; we had lost a loved one, and the pain we had endured was indescribable.
Later, inside the camp, we were all sitting on the chairs, debating our next move.
"We must return home as soon as possible; they will not remain silent; they will return," Robert stated.
"Marina, how about her? Do you believe the Demonix clan would be unaware of what we have done to her?" Hamza stated
"She was mercilessly sold to a monster, just as Anthony killed our families without mercy," Martin said.
"Who is going to tell Anthony about Marina? That's none of our concern; she's the only one who knows, but Artyom wouldn't let her go." Frank stated
When we were debating our next move, Xavier was not present in our conversation because he was watching over Levine from a few feet away.
"We made a bad deal by giving Marina to Artyom; he knew how valuable she is to those whom Anthony can harm. We might be able to use her as a shield. " Eric stated
"Why Marina brought us here?" Xavier inquired.
"She wanted to end the conflict between the Demonix clan and the Oak Pack, so she took the first step to shake the Oak Pack's hand," Kevin explained.
Xavier turned to face the members and asked them all the same question.
"She has a reason for her actions; I'm not sure what it is, but she is not the same as she appears," Martin explained.
"I'm not sure if she wanted to erase the conflict or if she was playing with us, but one thing is certain: We did something wrong when we handed her over to The Nightwalker pack," Hamza explained.
"She might want you to accept her, Xavier, because she was so close to you in the past and still loves you," Ajay speculated.
Xavier began to laugh as he walked around us. We were all watching him with interest. The alpha was the most unpredictable and difficult to read.
"Why are you unable to think outside the box? Why do you always look in one direction when there are so many more to discover? Is that impossible?" Xavier inquired.
We were all speechless and struggling to understand what Xavier was saying.
"We are blinded by hatred, which is why we cannot see others' good deeds." Kevin mocked
"She intended to use the Oak pack to eliminate the Nightwalker pack," Xavier explained.
We were all fighting in our heads over our thoughts and what Xavier had revealed.
"Why do you think she told us about Levine? What would she have gotten in exchange? What did she anticipate? She even put her life in danger by entering our territory, knowing what we could do to her.
After all, she is the enemy's daughter, so why did she dare to visit our territory?" Xavier inquired.
His words were difficult to comprehend when we were all thinking in our own ways.
"Because she was on a mission to make a higher and more tangled mess between two packs," Xavier explained.
Xavier was telling us that he was watching her every move as if he knew her better than she knew herself. Was it for this reason that he brought Marina with us to bargain about her in exchange for his brother? Did Xavier already know what would happen?
"She wanted to watch the battle of two packs to amuse herself," Xavier explained.
"How can you be so certain?" Kevin inquired.
"So, how about you? Why are you so certain?" Kevin was silenced by Xavier's statement.
Kevin was siding with Marina because Xavier was against her. They both used to fight in the pack; Xavier and Kevin had a complicated relationship.
We were all wondering what Marina's true motive was and what kind of games she was playing with us.
"If what Xavier said was right, what could be our next move? Artyom has Marina, which can harm us. We need Marina to confront Anthony," I inquired.
"Who said I was going to abandon her here?" Xavier smiled as he said this.
"What exactly do you mean?" Martin inquired.
"Artyom was expecting action, and I'm not going to let him down," Xavier said.
I could see a gleam in Xavier's eyes; he was ready to fight without hesitation. He tricked Artyom into letting him have his brother without begging him. He offered him the deal as a ruse to lure the biggest shark into his web.
"Put on your seatbelts! I'm not going to wait to get home. Let us take Marina and depart from this land," Xavier stated.
When the Nightwalker pack handed over Levine to Xavier, they thought the threat was over, but Artyom was unaware that the real threat was about to begin.
