Chapter 302: Chapter 302
Chapter 302 New Delicacy
After the three billion arrived, Renee hurriedly devoted herself to work because she didn't want to waste any more time.
Martin, on the other hand, didn't want to bother her anymore, so he simply told her that if she encountered any kind of difficulties again, she should let him know as soon as possible.
With that said, all Martin had to do at the moment was to wait patiently for the Birrell Group's capital chain to go bankrupt and for Renee's promotion for her company to be a success.
At five o'clock in the afternoon, Martin drove towards the Tommy Group and waited for Shirley.
"Martin!" Shirley said as she patted Martin on his shoulder. She wore a white lace dress and she looked like a goddess, so as soon as Martin saw her, he smiled.
"Where do you want to take me out today?" Shirley said with a smile.
"Somewhere you haven't eaten yet, maybe?" Martin said as he smiled back.
"I've already stayed in JD City for 20 years now and there's nothing I haven't eaten yet here," Shirley said confidently.
"Well, let's just see about that," Martin chuckled.
With that, Shirley sat inside Martin's Porsche while he drove.
Martin didn't drive towards the prosperous business district and instead drove to a shantytown where all the houses were old and the environment wasn't very good. Because of that, the place he drove to was known as the slums in JD City.
Most of the people who lived in the slums had poor economic conditions, but migrant workers also lived there because the rent was much lower compared to the business district.
With that, Martin parked the car in a parking lot as soon as they arrived.
"Is this the slums? I didn't expect JD City to have such a place," Shirley said as she couldn't help but look around. After all, she was the eldest in the family as always had the best life as one of the richest people.
"I used to grow up in the slums back in C City too, you know?" Martin said.
"That must be hard," Shirley replied.
"I got used to it, but I was too humble and people often took that for granted," Martin said as he shook his head while he remembered some of the things that happened in the past.
"Didn't you invite me to a meal, though? Why did we come here?" Shirley said with a bewildered look on her face.
"I brought you here because the food is delicious," Martin chuckled.
"W-What kind of food do people have here? Are you kidding me?" Shirley said in disbelief.
Martin laughed. "You'll know later, so just follow me."
With that, he locked the car and led Shirley to the street.
Since it was obvious that Shirley wasn't from the slums because of the way she dressed, people often turned around to look at her. In fact, even a man who rode a second-hand car was dumbfounded and bumped into a pole on the side of the road.
After a few minutes, they arrived somewhere there were a lot of stalls and people. Different kinds of scents could be smelled from far away, which made Shirley bite her lip in hopes that she wouldn't eat any of the food in such a dirty environment.
"Is this the place you were talking about?" Shirley said as she showed a helpless smile.
"That's right," Martin said proudly. "I'm sure you haven't eaten here before. You didn't eat supper either, right?"
A hint of embarrassment appeared on Shirley's face as she looked around. However, because of the relationship she had with Martin, she didn't say anything else.
"Don't worry," Martin said. "There's no problem with eating here because you can see so many people here eat every day."
"A-Alright," Shirley nodded. She had never eaten a meal in such a dirty environment, but since she didn't want to disappoint Martin, she eventually agreed.
With that, she followed Martin to one of the stalls.
"Find us a seat please," Martin ordered.
"Both of you look good together," the boss said with a smile. "The last seat is on the far left, so you can take a seat first and order some food. The menu is on the table as well."
"Wait up!" A man suddenly said.
When the boss turned to look at where the voice was, he saw four middle-aged men come over.
"Boss, let us take the last seat," One of the men said.
When Martin glanced at the men, he immediately knew that they belonged to the slums and said, "We came here first."
As soon as Martin said that, they noticed Shirley and their eyes suddenly widened.
"Damn, what a pretty girl..." One of them trailed off.
However, once they glanced at Martin, they glared at him.
"You're so awesome, boy!" One of the men said and laughed. "You hooked up with such a beautiful girl!"
Martin simply sighed. "I don't want to bother them, so let's just sit down, Shirley."
When Martin and Shirley were about to sit down, the three men blocked Martin's path while the other man took out five hundred dollars as he put it in front of the boss.
"Here's the tip, boss. Do you want to give us that seat now?" The man said proudly.
"Of course, no problem!" The boss laughed. Since he earned five hundred dollars out of the blue, he was willing to give the four men the last seat.
With that, he looked at Martin and said, "You two can just wait for a while. I'm sure you can have somewhere to sit later."
"Does that mean I have to spend money just so we can sit on that last table?" Martin said as he couldn't help but smile.
Immediately afterward, he took out ten thousand dollars directly from his pocket and put it on the table in front of the boss.
"Here's ten thousand. That table now belongs to us," Martin said calmly.
As soon as the boss saw ten thousand dollars, his eyes widened. At that time, Martin looked at the men and said, "five hundred for a table? Don't you feel ashamed?"
When the men saw Martin take out so much money, they couldn't help but grit their teeth in anger.
"I'm bidding ten thousand now, but will you continue to bid?" Martin smirked. "If you want to continue, I'll play your game. But if you can't afford it, you're going to get in trouble."
"Just you wait, boy..." One of the men trailed off as he urged the others to leave.
After all, four men left, Martin and Shirley sat at the last table. Before they ordered some food, Martin asked for help from the Tommy family while they suppressed the Birrell family together.
"Martin, I'll try my best to help you tell my grandpa about this, but if he disagrees, I wouldn't know what to do," Shirley sighed. "I used threats last time, but I don't think that's going to work anymore."
"You only need to take me where Payne is and I'll personally tell him about that matter. As long as you can help me say a few words to him, I'll be grateful to you," Martin said.
Shirley nodded. "Alright. If that's the case, then you can take me home after dinner and when you come to my house, I'm sure my grandpa will notice you right away."
As soon as Shirley said that, the boss personally brought the dishes towards them and said, "This is the best dish that we have, so I hope you enjoy it."
Since Martin gave the boss a huge time, he wanted to take their orders seriously and made the dishes even more delicious than what he usually served to his customers.
"You can try it now, Shirley," Martin smiled.
Shirley simply nodded and ate the dishes that the boss made. When she finished tasting, Martin smiled and asked, "How is it?"
Martin thought that bringing Shirley to the slums was a bold idea. However, since she had always been spoiled because of how much money she and her family had, he noticed that she grew tired of fancy meals.
However, he had no idea whether she would like the taste of the food or not, which was why he thought that it was a bit risky.
"It's delicious!" Shirley said in surprise. "Although the dish doesn't look that good, I never expected it to be this delicious!"
After she finished talking, she immediately ate the rest of her meal. Martin, on the other hand, simply laughed and felt relieved.
It took an hour for them to finish and Martin noticed that Shirley ate a lot, which indicated that she liked it.
After they ate, he was ready to send Shirley home and meet her grandfather so they could talk about suppressing the Birrell family.
"Martin, you opened a new door for me and made me realize a new delicacy, so I'm happy," Shirley said with a smile.
"I was afraid you wouldn't like it," Martin chuckled.
After they talked, they walked into an alley. However, four shadows suddenly appeared in front of them. When Martin looked at the people who blocked them, he noticed that they were the same people who wanted the last table from the stall.
