Chapter 303: Chapter 303
Chapter 303 Alliance of the Tommy family
"Martin..." Shirley trailed off as she grabbed Martin's arm in fear.
"Don't worry, Shirley, I'm here," Martin said as he patted Shirley's head gently.
"I told you that you would pay for this, boy," The leader of the men proudly said. As soon as he said that, the other men clapped their hands.
"Do you know how to use martial arts?" Martin smirked.
"I, Hubert Oswald am one of the famous people in my generation, especially when it comes to boxing," The leader of the men, Hubert, said. "Don't underestimate me!"
With that, Hubert swung his fist while he ran towards Martin.
"Don't move!" Martin shouted as he took out a pistol and aimed at Hubert's forehead.
As soon as Hubert saw the pistol in Martin's hand, his fist stopped in mid-air in an instant and he froze in place.
"That kid has a gun!" One of the three men behind Hubert said. "Run for your life!"
"I said don't move!" Martin said as he shot in midair.
Hubert was about to run with his three comrades, but when all of them heard the gunshot, they trembled in fear and they were about to pee their pants.
"You didn't punch me, big guy," Martin said as he sneered at Hubert. "What happened to your resolve back then? Are you afraid of the gun I have on my hand?"
"W-We were wrong! Don't shoot!" Hubert said as he knelt on the ground while he trembled in fear. His other comrades also did the same time and asked for mercy.
"Punch each other first," Martin coldly said as he glared at them. "If all of you don't fight against each other, I'll shoot someone."
All four of them got scared almost immediately as they felt Martin's piercing gaze, so they fought against each other.
When Martin noticed that all four of them started to fight, he looked back at Shirley and said, "Let's go, Shirley."
When they walked out of the alley, Martin still vaguely heard the men fighting against each other. Shirley, on the other hand, still held Martin's arm in fear.
"If you didn't have a gun, we would have been dead, Martin," Shirley said as she trembled.
"You have to bring a bodyguard if you want to come back here, okay?" Martin warned her. "You're so beautiful and I doubt that people would just leave you alone if they saw you."
"I-I can't believe you're complimenting me at a time like this," Shirley said as she blushed.
After they got in the car, Shirley looked at Martin with a smile on her face and said, "I swear, you looked so handsome when you took out the gun!"
At that moment, Martin was a little embarrassed and didn't know how to answer Shirley, so he just let her be. Not to mention, he noticed that she might have feelings for him, but he didn't want to jump to conclusions.
With that, Martin quickly started the car and drove towards the villa. On the way, Martin asked Shirley why her grandfather didn't retire and give the position of chairman to her father instead.
After all, at Payne's age, there's no doubt that he should retire. Moreover, Mr. Winston already retired and gave the position to one of his family members in the Birrell family.
Not to mention, if Martin hadn't been the successor, Morgan would have to retire early.
After Martin asked Shirley about it, he realized that her father was a gambler, so her grandfather had been worried about handing over the company to her father.
Half an hour later, Martin drove the car into the Tommy family's villa then led Shirley into her house.
When they arrived in the living room, Shirley happily walked inside and said, "Grandpa, I'm back!"
"Isn't that Martin with you?" Payne said with a smile. "Please, sit down."
Payne's attitude towards Martin was very different than the first time they met and the reason was simple. Last time at the reception, Payne saw how great Martin was, so he decided to give Martin a chance.
"Good evening, Payne," Martin said with a smile.
It was then that Payne took a glance at one of the butlers and said, "Please pick up a bottle of wine so Mr. James can have something to drink."
"Yes, sir," The butler said as he went to fetch the wine.
"Martin, I received the news today and I heard that the Gold Group is doing a large-scale price-cutting campaign to suppress the Birrell family," Payne said.
"That's right," Martin said. "The capital chain got strained, so I wanted to take advantage of it and make the Birrell Group go bankrupt."
"Payne, I actually came here today because I wanted to represent the Gold Group and talk to you about cooperation," Martin added.
"You want the Tommy Group to cooperate with the Gold Group and fight the Birrell Group together, right?" Payne said with a smile. Since he was the one who built the Tommy Group from scratch, he was naturally a wise man, which was why he immediately knew Martin's intentions.
"Yes," Martin nodded. "I just hope that the Tommy family can make a move. If you agree to this, I think the Birrell Group won't have a choice but to back out this time."
At that moment, Martin was still a little worried because Payne had the wisdom and wasn't sure if he'll agree because once the Birrell family rises again, they would have a grudge against the Tommy family as well.
Moreover, the Tommy family's background wasn't as good as the Gold Group, so if the Birrell family wanted to retaliate, they would target the Tommy family first.
Therefore, the best way was to not help each other. However, since Martin needed to take the Birrell family down, he had little to no choice.
"Although there are risks, I'm willing to form an alliance with the Gold Group and fight the Birrell family together," Payne said with a smile.
"H-Hold on..." Martin said with a surprised look. "You want to form an alliance and fight the Birrell family together?"
Martin didn't expect that Payne would directly agree, after all. Not to mention, if the Tommy family agreed, they would have to take advantage of the opportunity.
Shirley, on the other hand, was surprised as well because she never expected that her grandfather would outright agree to it. After all, she also helped Martin persuade her grandfather.
"Yes, Martin," Payne said. "I'll call the executives of the group later and tell them to come up with some plans overnight. Tomorrow morning, I'll also start a substantial discount event for competitive industries in the Birrell Group."
"Payne, I don't want to ask you this, but how much are you going to invest?" Martin asked.
Although Payne agreed to the deal, Martin thought that a hundred or ten million was enough for things to make a difference. However, as soon as Payne replied, he was taken aback.
"Since I decided to deal with the Birrell family, I don't want to waste time," Payne said. "Because of that, I'm going to invest four billion."
"F-Four billion?!" Martin said in shock. He didn't expect that Payne would invest so much money, after all.
Also, the Tommy family ranked third among the four major families of JD City and its financial strength is certainly not comparable to that of the Gold Group and Birrell Group.
In addition to that, business-minded people often invest money in a group that can continue to develop, so if the Gold Group invested seven billion while the Tommy family invested four billion, that meant eleven billion dollars just for the investment.
Both the Tommy family and China Ding were doing their best, which was why Martin was confident that the Birrell Group wouldn't have anything else left to offer.
"Thank you so much, Payne!" Martin said as he stood up and bowed at Payne since The participation of the Tommy Group was really important.
"Martin, I'm willing to be allied with you and the Gold Group because I can't understand the Birrell family at all," Payne said. "Also, I admire you very much and I think you can achieve great things this time. Maybe you can even change the whole country!"
"Well, since I'm the same generation as your grandfather, you can call me Grandpa Payne if you want, okay?" Payne added. "You don't have to call me Payne anymore."
"That's alright for me, Grandpa Payne," Martin chuckled.
At that time, the butler had already fetched the wine and poured it for Martin and Grandpa Payne.
"Let's have a toast, Martin," Payne said as he happily raised his glass. "I wish us a happy cooperation and a wonderful, fulfilling victory!"
Martin smiled as he raised his glass as well.
"And me!" Shirley happily said as she picked up her wine glass.
With that, all three glasses clicked against each other and they all drank the wine together.
