Chapter 19: Chapter 19
Chapter 19 Shock and Awe
"No way." Chapman muttered to himself. His eyes were wide in disbelief. How could he not recognize the person on the stage when he just met him earlier? But the person who was supposed to went up to stage was the new chairman of Gold Group. What was he doing there?
Chapman couldn't properly comprehend the situation. He was too shocked.
"It's definitely not him! What is he doing there?!" Chapman whispered angrily through clenched teeth. He didn't want to believe that the person he was calling trash just a moment ago was the new chairman of the Gold Group.
Amanda was too shocked to even speak.
Wasn't that man on the stage her blind date in the bar the other day?
That time, even when Martin got Lamborghini with him, she had scorned him. She assumed that the Lamborghini must be rented to appeal to her.
"Is he really the new chairman of Gold? No! It's impossible!" Amanda shook her head. She wanted to badly deny the reality.
"How come it's him?!" Kelly's eyes widened in surprise.
"This is unreal." Abel muttered in bewilderment.
Back on the stage, Martin arrived in the middle of the stage.
"I would like to introduce to you, this is Mr. Martin James, the new chairman of our Gold Group's C City branch. Next, I would like to invite our Mr. James to deliver a speech." Michael, the general manager, declared.
It felt like there was loud sound inside Chapman's head, like he was struck by a thunder. He almost felt his soul leaving his body. How could he not continue doubting reality when the truth had already come out from Michael's mouth?
"He really is the chairman of the Gold Group. It's over." Chapman leaned back on the chair as his whole body went soft.
He wanted to go back in time to kick himself for saying those harsh words towards Martin. What the hell was he thinking when he had acted to brashly in front of the new chairman?
Amanda stared at Martin on the stage. Her brain was suddenly failing her, and she could not grasp the situation at all. How come it was Martin who was the new chairman of Gold Group?!
"Heavens! He is indeed the new chairman of the Gold Group!" Abel could not help the loudening of his voice.
It turned out that the young man he was just talking to earlier was the new chairman they had all been anticipating about. The person he desperately wanted to meet was Martin himself.
Kelly could not speak as her hands were covering her mouth. It was only now that she understood why Martin was not afraid of Chapman, because Martin James was the new chairman of Gold Group!
At this time, Martin had finished a brief speech, and then, as the host of the event, he stepped down from the stage to toast with the guests to show their gratitude for coming.
Michael followed Martin and introduced the names and information of these people to Martin. Meanwhile, the guests would greet him politely and respectfully. Soon, he came to the second row where the father and son of Samson family was seated. Everyone quickly stood when they saw him approaching.
"Mr. James. This is Byron Samson, a shareholder of our company, and on his left is his son, Chapman Samson." Michael introduced.
Byron held the glass up respectfully. "Hello, Mr. James. I'm Byron Samson. I'd like to ask Mr. James to take care of us in the future."
Martin chuckled darkly. "Oh, I don't know about that, Byron."
"What do you mean by that, Chairman?" Byron smiled awkwardly. He had no idea why Martin said that.
Martin did not answer him, but he glanced at Chapman instead.
"Chapman, come on, I'll propose a toast to you!" Martin called with a playful smile on his face.
Chapman was so frightened that he almost fell to the ground from his chair. "M-Mr. James. I..." He stammered. He couldn't think straight, the only thing he could remember was his rude attitude towards Martin. He even threatened him!
"What? I proposed a toast to you. You can't accept it?" Martin frowned in dismay.
"No, of course not! I mean, it was my pleasure!" Chapman hurriedly picked up his glass, but his hands was shaking so much so that a lot of wine was spilled on the table and on his body. Then, he drank the wine.
On his side, Byron noticed that something was wrong, but he didn't dare to interrupt the moment.
Martin held his glass and sneered. "Chapman, didn't you threaten to kill me earlier? Now, I'm right here in front of you. Tell me how you're going to kill me. I'm all ears."
Chapman almost choked. "Mr. James! I didn't know you were the new chairman, so I..." His voice trembled and his face was pale. He was unable to finish his words from fear.
"So, you think I'm inferior to you and you think you can bully me at will, right?" Martin asked with an enigmatic smile.
Chapman nodded stiffly.
"Why? Because you think low life individuals deserved to be bullied? Did you know that what I hate most are those people who bullies other just because they can?" Without warning, Martin poured the wine in his glass on Chapman's head.
Suddenly, the whole venue was plunged into a deathly silence, only the sound of wine being poured echoed in the hall. It was obvious that Martin had lost his temper, but no one dared to interrupt.
"Mr. James, please forgive me!" Chapman was so scared that he knelt on the ground and begged for mercy. He was now regretting his actions.
Chapman's father also hurriedly knelt. Byron was a shareholder of the company. He knew very well that Martin was not only the new chairman of the company, but also the grandson of Morgan Gracie.
If Martin wanted to crush them, it would be as simple as pinching an ant.
"Mr. James, Chapman wasn't thinking through his head. I'll make amends for what he did to you. From now on, I will exercise strict discipline!"
Martin stared at Byron. "If I hear anything about him bullying anyone in the future, I'll be holding you accountable for that. Do you understand?"
"Yes, yes!" Byron nodded again and again like a chicken pecking for rice.
Then, Martin turned around and faced the people at the reception hall. "I will make it here clear. As long as you are working with the Gold Group, I forbid you any act of tyranny. If you have such attitude, tell me now so I could immediately cut off all connections you have from the Gold Group. Of course, expect to be banned in the business industry in C City as well."
When Martin was nothing but a boy, he was bullied a lot by others. The reason for being bullied was because his family was poor. They bully poor people like Martin for no reason at all, maybe to have fun or to show off, that's all.
So, Martin hated such people who were strong but bullied the weak. Now that he was in power, of course, he should try his best to make this kind of thing happen less.
As soon as Martin's words came out, the hall went silent.
"What? Didn't you hear what I just said? Answer me." Martin asked coldly.
"Understood!"
The bosses, sons and daughters present all nodded in response.
When these bosses first saw Martin, they thought that he was so young, and he should be easier to fool. However, after what just happened, no one would think that that now.
When Martin heard their response, he nodded in satisfaction. Then, he turned at Chapman, who was still on his knees. "Chapman, stop harassing Kelly as well, understand? Or I'll kick your ass." He warned and there was an astonishing chill in his eyes.
