Chapter 18: Chapter 18

Chapter 18 Stage

"Uncle Mike, I really didn't come to your daughter with bad intentions. I just wanted to pay her back because she helped me yesterday." Martin hurriedly explained.

"But my daughter just said that there is no need to repay her, so go ahead." Abel waved his hand to Martin and motioned him to leave.

Abel was sure that Martin wanted to hit on her daughter. As a father, he naturally had to protect his daughter. There were too many people who want to hit on her daughter these days.

"Oh, my God. A boy dressed so shabbily dared to hit on Kelly?!" An arrogant voice was from behind.

Martin turned around and saw a young man with an omega wristwatch and an arrogant expression on his face.

"Chapman!" When Kelly and Abel saw the man, the expression on their faces changed.

Martin frowned slightly because of what the young man had just said. This 'boy dressed so shabbily' was obviously referring to him.

The man named Chapman Samson had walked up to Martin and Kelly in a blink of an eye.

"Where did this boy come from? Get out of here! Kelly is not worthy of a trash like you." Chapman looked at Martin with disdain. Then, he looked at Kelly again.

"Kelly. I heard that you came to talk to the Gold Group about the cooperation today. I wanted to ask if the deal has been done." Chapman put his hand in his trouser pocket, looking like a loafer.

"Chapman, I believe it was none of your business." Kelly said with a forced smile.

"How come it's none of my business? You're my future girlfriend!" Chapman smiled obsessively.

"Chapman Samson! Please watch your words!" Abel angrily interrupted.

"Uncle Mike, why are you so mean? I'm here to help your family." Chapman said with a smile. "If I guessed correctly, the Gold Group will not cooperate with your company. As a result, your company will be facing bankruptcy soon, but I can help you. As long as Kelly promised to be my girlfriend, I will let my father help you."

Just as Kelly and Abel were about to say no, Martin butted in. "Help? What big words from such young man! Are you crazy?"

Chapman turned to look at Martin with a cold expression. "What did you just say? Do you fucking know who I am?"

"Martin, stop. You can't afford to mess with him!" Kelly pulled Martin's sleeve.

Although Kelly and Martin didn't know each until now, Martin was doing this for her sake. She didn't want Martin to get hurt because of her.

"Oh?" Martin gave smiled meaningfully. He was sure there was no one in C City who he couldn't piss off.

The truth was that Martin didn't particularly care about Chapman nor his family. But he was sure Chapman was not better than him. After all, he was the grandson of the richest man in California.

Abel Mike also patted Martin in the arm to stop him. "Young man, his father is a shareholder of the C City branch of Gold Group." He informed.

"The son of a shareholder?" Martin frowned slightly. He did not expect that this man turned out to be a son of a shareholder from his own company!

That's interesting.

And then, Martin sneered. "Oh, son of a shareholder, huh? And? What made you so arrogant?"

Chapman became furious at Martin's provocation. "Boy, how dare you talk to me like that? You're looking for a fight, huh? I see you're tired of living!" Chapman shook his fist.

Abel hurriedly moved to stop Chapman, assuming that he was about to hit Martin. "Chapman! We're in a party held by the Gold Group. If you hit someone here, that means you're being rude to the new chairman of Gold Group. If this became big, your father will not be able to explain it to the new chairman!"

When Chapman heard this, he forced himself to calm down. He was arrogant, but not brainless. He knew it was a party held by the new chairman, and if he really caused trouble at the party, his father might not be able to handle the consequence.

"Lucky for you, boy, I won't deal with you now! When the party is over, I'll let you know what's going to happen if you dared to mess with me!" Chapman announced viciously. Then he turned to Kelly. "Kelly, think about it with your father, again. Be my girlfriend, and I'll let my father help you. Otherwise, your family is finished." With that, he turned around and left.

Martin looked at the retreating figure of Chapman with a cold smile. "I will also let you understand what will happen when you provoke me."

"Martin, you are too impulsive. His father is one of the shareholders of the C City branch of Gold Group. It is not something like us can afford to mess with!" Kelly exclaimed with a worried tone.

The shareholder status of the C City branch of Gold Group may not be a big deal in Martin's eyes, but for Kelly, it is.

Abel agreed with his daughter. "Yes, this Chapman will definitely report you to his father. Young man, after the party, he will certainly come to trouble you. Take my advice and get out of here now."

"Yes, you'd better get out of here." Kelly nodded.

Kelly knew that Martin just stood up for her that's why he got into trouble with Chapman. Of course, she didn't want Martin to get into trouble because of this. Her conscience couldn't take that.

"Don't worry, I don't care about Chapman." Martin smiled nonchalantly and shrugged.

"You say you don't even care about Chapman? Young man, you are so arrogant!" Abel couldn't help shaking his head.

Although Abel was not an expert, he still had the ability to judge a person's status by his appearance. With his judgment, Martin was not comparable to Chapman.

"By the way, you just said you wanted to work with the Gold Group. Maybe I can help you." Martin offered.

"You? Young man, don't make fun of me. You can't help me with this." Abel shook his head.

"Uncle Mike, I'm sure I can help you. You'll know later." Martin said with a mysterious smile.

After a while, Michael walked to the stage. "The event was to start in a few minutes. Dear guests, please return to your seats." He announced.

The invited guests followed.

Abel turned to Martin again. "Young man, that's all I can say to you. You should think what's good for you." After that, Abel took his daughter to their designated table.

"Martin, why didn't you just tell them that you are the new chairman of Gold Group?" The fat man asked curiously.

"People tend to not believe me whenever I say it. But don't worry, they will know eventually."

......

The seat was sorted by status. Those who were sitting in the front meant that their status was relatively high, contrary to those who were sitting in the back.

People like Chapman was sitting closer to the stage. He sat at a table in the second row with his father.

Meanwhile, Kelly and Abel were sitting at the back row. Kelly sat down on her seat and scanned the crowd. She did not see James. "He should have left by now." She sighed in relief.

Abel was somehow relieved as well. "It's good that he is a little self-aware. Leaving the party is the wisest choice." Then he smiled wryly as he turned to his daughter. "Wasn't it ironic, Kelly? We don't even have the power to protect ourselves, and yet we're still worried about the safety of others."

At the same time, on the stage, Michael was holding a microphone in his hand. "Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for waiting. We know you've been looking forward to meeting our new chairman."

Several individuals from the audience nodded. Almost everyone present in the party hadn't seen the face of the new chairman of the C City branch of Gold Group. That was the main reason for today's party, to formally introduce the new chairman to these people.

Of course, a handful of guests had met him in the reception hall earlier, but they did not know about his real identity.

"We won't be delaying everyone's curiosity any further. Please welcome the new chairman with a warm applause.

The audience instantly erupted into thunderous applause at the exciting announcement. Everyone was looking in the stage in anticipation.

"The new chairman of Gold Group is finally going to take the stage!"

"I heard that the new chairman is so young."

......

At the audience's seat, particularly at the second row, Chapman put down his phone and set his eyes on the stage.

His father glanced at him. "Chapman, when the new chairman finishes his speech, he will certainly step down and propose a toast to the guests. You have to be on your best attitude, and you must not offend the new chairman. Do you understand?"

Chapman's father knew very well that his son was usually arrogant and often collided with other people.

"Don't worry, Dad. I'll behave." Chapman assured with a smile.

On another seat at the back, Amanda and his father applauded and fixed their eyes on the stage.

"I'm finally going to see the face of the new chairman. I'm so looking forward to it!" Amanda's face was covered with anticipation.

On another table, Kelly and her father had their eyes fixed on the stage as well.

Under the scrutiny and the warm applause from the crowd, a figure walked slowly onto the stage.

It was none other than Martin James.
