Lucas was helpless waiting for her to wake up after he watched the doctor dress her wound. He undressed her himself and applied whatever was needed to be applied. He wondered why she refused admission. He knew a gunshot when he sees one. She's indeed in trouble.
" Sir, I'll watch over her. You have to sleep. She's not waking up anytime soon" said Genevieve concerned about him
" I'm fine. You can go" he sneered
Then his grandma and parents who were supposed to leave town came in with gift bags and ornaments.
" Luke, we'll watch over her. Go and attend the meetings' said his Dad looking at the sleeping beauty
" What are you doing here? You're supposed to be in the states recuperating" he snapped
' and miss the chance of meeting my future daughter-in-law no way ' stated his father. His Mom and grandma were busy starring at her in amazement
" Mom, grandma, and Dad she's not my woman and not my bride' he denied as they glared at him in disbelieve.
" Excuse us, Luke. An unmarried man shouldn't take care of a spinster who isn't his woman" said his mom like a tease
" Fine" he was confused. How did they know he brought a guest but he didn't mind. They seem to like her at first sight then there's nothing wrong with him and he wasn't lusting after her. He smiled at his conclusion and went to his study.
Audrey woke up weak and hungry as she has been unconscious for almost eighteen hours. She opened her eyes and coughed slightly. Mrs. Hamilton rushed to her giving her a glass of water. She collected it and gulped it down. She gave a syrup which she took and spat out after realizing who she was and it wasn't her room.
" Thank you, ma'am. Please where am I? She asked confused
" You're in the Hamilton stone house' she smiled wiping her mouth
" What? Thanks for your care but I have to go. I have a trip "
" You're a badly wounded child. Let me take care of you for him.. don't panic. No harm will come to you here" she coaxed hugging her.
Audrey was lost for words. She has been taking care of her? She held her tightly and sniffles. Wishing she had the love of a mother. Lucas is blessed abundantly.
Mrs. Hamilton helped her to the bathroom, to change her clothes despite her protest. She treated her like her own daughter. She made sure she ate and took her to meet Lucas's grandma who welcomed her with open arms. She didn't know why they were so nice to her perhaps it's because of her predicament.
Luke arrived hours later and saw Audrey, his mom, and grandma chatting together. He was surprised including Bobb and Genevieve who has been in the house but none treated her like that.
" Luke is back. See she's awake. I told you she's gonna make it" his grandma exclaimed winking at Audrey to go with him. She smiled and followed him inside thinking of what to say to him.
" Genevieve please excuse us. You too bobby" said Lucas sitting on a sofa in the living room
" Thank you for your help. I didn't know I was that sick* she said confidently
" Yes, you did. You had a mental breakdown on the road. Do you have depression? Did you want to die? I want the truth" he demanded glaring at her in annoyance
" I'm fine. Stop yelling. I wasn't going to commit suicide. I appreciate your help. It won't happen again okay? " She stated about to leave
" Who shot you, Audrey? Don't you dare lie to me? " He snapped grabbing her hand stopping her from leaving
" No one. I fell off the stairs goddamn it. Luke, it hurts" she cursed whimpering in pain. He released her realizing it's her wounded arm
" Shut your mouth. You're such a liar woman. You're not leaving this house till you tell me who did" he concluded
' it's my life and my problem. Stop poking your nose in my affair pretending you care when we both know what you want. Stay out of my life. I'm out of here" she snapped
" Then I'll prove it to you but you're not leaving till you're completely healed. You heard of the stone house, right? " She widened her eyes in shock. She heard rumors of its hidden walls and vast world. Is he going to lock her up in it? Inside the house was like a labyrinth. A maze perhaps.
" Good. I'll take that as a yes. You're my guest but if you intend to make yourself a prisoner then no problem. " He snorted
" I can't and I have a trip at work to attend. I can't stay here" she lamented trying to convince him
" Enjoy your stay, Audrey. I'll see you when you're ready to talk about it" he concluded ready to leave
" Lucas, I can't tell you. I can't. I can take care of myself"
" Clearly. I can see that" he said nonchalantly
" Fine. I'll stay here till I'm healed but I need my phone. The hotel needs me" she pleaded
" That's for starters. I don't bloody care. You have no choice but to stay here according to my instructions. Make a smart move and I might have to keep you here longer than expected" he exclaimed enough to make goosebumps rise on her body.
" What do I tell my friends? She said suddenly worried about them though they can take care of themselves
" Not my business. You're my priority for now. I can see you sneaked your way into my parent's hearts. Bravo. What else can you do?
" Aren't I a handful? I guess that matter has to do with you cos I'm meeting them for the first time" she exclaimed confidently
" Don't get too attached." He started leaving. She sneered what an arrogant jerk. She has to find a way to leave and Lucas is going to be her way out perhaps his parents might help. Living with him means she has to reveal her secret to him. Over her dead body will she let that happen.
He's arrogant and rude. He sees the worst in people but he saved her. Why did he do that? Is he attracted to her now? With David mad at her. She can give it a try that is if he asked.
