Lucas confiscated Audrey's phone from her. She didn't see him for a whole day. So she spent time with her parents and granny who was more than happy to have her.
" How did you meet my aloof son? Asked Mrs. Fiona Hamilton Lucas mom
" At the hotel, I'm managing. He was our guest for a month. " She narrated
" And how did he treat you when he arrived? Asked the granny smirking. Audrey didn't know what to say but Lucas dad explained
" Did he ogle? I mean stand checking you out? Or did he gape at your beauty? Or he said manager show me my room? He said mimicking Lucas. Which made the ladies laugh out loud.
" He wasn't nice. I don't know how the spark between us began ." She was clueless and ashamed at the same time. She didn't even know why he wanted her. He hates her big ass and figure probably thinking she's unpresentable.
" Tell us how the closeness began and we can evaluate," said the granny as they sat properly waiting for her to spill
" He snapped at me once leaning for a kiss but stopped. First, he demanded I should be his waiting hostess. " She said not sure she can tell them how horrible he was and how she hated him then.
" Meaning he likes you cos women don't wait on him," said Fiona beckoning her to continue
" Oh don't be shy. He's our blood and we're happy he's ready to have a relationship or communication with women since his brother died" said granny piquing her interest but she said nothing seeing the heaviness in her tone
" I waited on him for some days trying to do my job as a good and efficient manager," she said then his dad cut in
" I guess he bossed you around. He was mean and annoying, right? He said as they laughed out loud
Audrey giggles. They knew him pretty well. " Yes he did"
" Then he kissed you at the party cos he couldn't control himself anymore," said Fiona grinning
" Not exactly," she said shyly. They didn't ask any further seeing her red cheeks
" Has your relationship with him " progressed? Has he professed his feelings for you? Asked granny
" No. He doesn't like me. " She whispered
" Yes, he does. He watched you all day when you were unconscious. He didn't eat. And he carried you into the house himself " said granny holding her hands as Audrey stared in shock
" I see. " She uttered
" Who are your parents? Asked Fiona adjusting her wristwatch
" I... My dad died years ago and my mom couldn't bear the loss. So..... " She stuttered as Fiona gave her a tight hug.
" Poor child. We're here for you. I'll be your mother from now on. Lucas is my only child. I lost my eldest son a few years ago. He hasn't been the same since that day. " Said Fiona sadly
" I'm sorry for your loss ma'am"
" You can call me mom if that's okay by you" she added making her smile
" Lucas used to be a very cheerful boy. We can hardly differentiate between him and his four peers. Been in the military didn't break him. It seems his brother's death did. But you're here now. The fact that he noticed you are different. Promise me you'll make him love you" pleaded Mr. Hamilton
" We know it's a huge responsibility but you have to help us or we won't have grandchildren or great-grandchildren in the Hamilton family. He's not ready to change" whimpered granny.
Audrey was hesitant to assure them. Lucas just wants a night with her and she never regarded herself as his to be a wife or anyone else's. How can she make promises she can't keep? There are so kind and loving to her. How could she bear to refuse them? She had an idea.
" My dear husband died waiting for this moment. He kept saying he'll meet a woman who will make him break his principle. A woman he won't be able to forget. I think you're that woman. He's helpless with you here. He wouldn't come home because of you. " Said granny sniffling glad her wait is over. She wanted to see him happy before she joins her husband fulfilling his last wish.
" We know it's a lot to ask. We won't be asking if we could do it. He listens to no one. " Added Mr. Hamilton.
" I'm so sorry to hear all that. I'm not a perfect girl as you assume. I smoke and drink and I'm not the innocent type " she exclaimed lowering her head in shame.
" We have no problem with that. As long as you're ready to help us. We'll make sure no one replaces you" Mr. Hamilton assured.
The thought of pretending to understand him overwhelmed her. She has to know if he's attracted to her as they say. She can't deceive him. promising them such a thing wasn't easy.
" I don't know if I succeed but I will try but it'll be my way. I don't want to force myself on him. I want to know if I'm worthy of him. I'll do it my way. Please don't intervene and if it fails please don't blame me perhaps I am not the right person for him" she explained as they smiled, looked at each other, and agreed.
" You're welcome to my home dear Audrey," said Fiona
" Don't be surprised I know your name. We all do. Make yourself at home. We'll be leaving for the states tomorrow. I'll call you on daily basis" she added pecking her
" Thank you, Audrey, you just saved a life with this. Don't forget to call me mom" she added giving her a hug
" I am grateful dear," said granny opening her arms for her. She was impressed with her intellect.
" Grams, I want to make you all happy. You have shown me love and care like family. I'll do my best to make our relationship a success" she said hugging her.
The Hamilton's wanted to teach her his dos and don't but she didn't want to pretend to be an obedient girl. She wasn't. Lucas knows her too well now. He has seen all her bad habits. Now how will she accomplish their goal? She pretty much wanted him but was scared he doesn't.
