Chapter 77: Chapter 77

Valeria arrived home with a sad expression on her face. Shane stared at her and she wondered what actually went wrong.

Valeria didn't even spare Shane a glance, she just went and sat down on the couch.

"You didn't get the job?" Shane couldn't help but ask.

Valeria didn't reply, she just stared into space, Shane got really pissed and she wanted to yell at Valeria, but when she noticed the tears on her face, she suddenly softened.

"What's wrong, Valeria?" Shane asked and she went to sit beside her.

Valeria turned to face Shane and the tears she'd been trying to fight back came rushing out.

Shane was surprised by this. She knew this was not about the job anymore, something was definitely wrong.

Valeria pulled Shane closer and she hugged her, still crying in her arms.

"Hush now, you can tell me anything." Shane said and she stroked Valeria's hair lovingly.

"I..I..I don't..." Valeria trailed off and she sniffed.

Shane pulled away from the embrace and she stared at Valeria.

"I told you I'd be there for you, right? I'm willing to damn every consequence for you, so please do not keep me in the dark. Tell me everything, we'll work things out." Shane said, and that only increased Valeria's cries.

She wondered what she'd done in her past life to have such a wonderful friend as Shane.

"The company where I applied for..." She paused and Shane stared at her inquisitively, urging her to continue.

"Noah is actually the CEO," Valeria said and she inhaled deeply, finally letting it out her chest.

"Noah?" Shane asked. She couldn't actually recall who he was.

She thought for a while and her eyes suddenly widened.

"You mean Ergon's older brother? He's the CEO of NM investment limited?" Shane half yelled.

"Did he hurt you? Or did he say any hurtful words to you?" Shane asked again and she got no response from Valeria.

"I'm gonna kill that bastard!" Shane spats. She made to stand up but Valeria held her back.

"He didn't do anything to me. In fact, he was willing to give me the job, but I rejected it," Valeria said, and Shane heaved a sigh of relief.

"You did the right thing, I'll just look for another job for you, then I'll add my savings so it'll be enough for Fred's fees," Shane said, and Valeria nodded.

Shane had actually warned her never to say thanks whenever she lent her a helping hand.

"But Valeria, why were you crying?" Shane asked. She really wanted to know why.

"Seeing Noah brought all the painful memories I'm trying to avoid, the memories of how I let myself be fooled by love," She uttered and was about crying again when Shane gave her a dreadful glare which caused her to chuckle.

"I love you Shane."

"Love you too, pumpkin," Shane said, and they both laughed.

"Where's Fred," Valeria asked.

"Oh, he's still sleeping in the bedroom." Shane replied.

"This is quite unusual, Fred doesn't sleep this long," Valeria said.

"When you left earlier, I noticed his body was kind of really hot." Shane said and Valeria's eyes immediately widened.

She hurriedly stood up and she ran to the bedroom with Shane trailing behind her.

Valeria went to her bedroom, and she immediately pushed open the door.

Their eyes went wide with shock when they both saw Fred groaning and writhing in pain on the bed.

"Fred!!" Shane and Valeria yelled.

Valeria rushed to Fred's side and she carried him in her arms.

"F...F... Fred, what's wrong with you honey?" She asked in tears.

"Mommy." Fred whispered, his little hands clutching tightly to his chest.

"A are you in pain?" She panicked.

Fred nodded his head, wincing in pain.

"Mommy." He muttered, then he passed out.

"Fred!!" Shane and Valeria yelled.

"Let's take him to the hospital." Shane said.

Valeria carried Fred in her arms, and they immediately rushed him to the hospital.

Huntington Memorial Hospital...

Fred was rolled on a stretcher as the nurses trailed behind him.

Valeria held the stretcher and she ran also, hot tears were streaming down her cheeks.

Shantel ran behind them.

"Fred, stay with me, okay? stay with me!" Valeria cried.

They finally got to the ward and they rolled Fred in.

"Miss, please step back, you can't go in," a nurse said.

"What? No! I want to stay with my son." She declined.

"Please, Val, let's do as she says," Shane said. She held Valeria's hand to show her support.

"Miss, you're only delaying your son's treatment." She said and Valeria sighed, she didn't want to delay his treatment.

She stepped back and the door was locked. She tried peeping but it was blurry.

She and Shane went and sat on a chair close to the ward.

Few minutes later....

The ward opened and they were called in by the doctor.

She and Shane went in and they saw Fred sleeping quietly on the bed.

"Miss, you're the patient's mother, right?" The doctor asked. She heard when Valeria called Fred her son earlier.

"Yes," Valeria replied.

"Your son is suffering from congenital heart disease." The doctor said.

"What!!!" Valeria and Shane yelled.

"W what's that? What does that mean?" Valeria stuttered.

The doctor sighed, she stared at Fred with so much pity in her eyes.

"Come with me to my office please, we'll talk more there." She said, then she left.

"Please stay with Fred," Valeria said to Shane.

"Of course, you don't have to worry about anything, just go and hear what the doctor has to say, I'll be here with him."

"Thank you Shane." Valeria replied, she wiped off her tears, took one last look at her son, then she left.

Doctor's office....

Valeria sat opposite the doctor, her legs couldn't stop shaking due to fear and nervousness.

"What's your name?" The doctor asked.

"Valeria."

"Okay Valeria, I'm Doctor May, and I'll be the one in charge of your son's case," Doctor May said. Valeria nodded.

"Like I said before, the patient is being diagnosed with a congenital heart disease, and it's very severe."

"W... what does that mean, doctor?" Valeria said fearfully.

Doctor May sighed.

"It means he has a hole in his heart," she said. Valeria gasped in fright at the information she received.
