Chapter 75: Chapter 75

Next morning....

Valeria sat in the living room, together with Shantel and her son, who was sleeping on her thighs.

Shantel, on the other hand, was busy with her laptop.

It's Saturday, so she wouldn't be taking Fred to school. Her thoughts were occupied with how she was going to face Fred's principal. She knew she had no money to pay for his school fees.

"Woah!!" Shantel screamed and that interrupted Valeria's thought.

"What the hell is wrong with you, Shantel? You know Fred is asleep. What if you wake him up?" Valeria asked.

"I'm sorry mum, I'm sorry." Shantel said sarcastically and Valeria scoffed.

"Please don't yell like that again." Valeria warned.

"You see, I'm just really excited, I told you I downloaded an app last night, right?" Shantel asked.

Valeria thought for a while and she nodded.

"Yes you did."

"I just got to find out that they have websites where we can look for good jobs opportunities from different companies." Shantel said excitedly and Valeria heaved.

"Is that why you were screaming?" She asked.

Shantel turned to her with a frown on her face.

"Why aren't you happy? You can get a job from there." Shantel asked.

"You know my situation, Shantel, I can't go for something that's higher than my standards." Valeria said.

"What do you mean?" Shantel asked, she was kind of getting confused.

"I'm a school drop out, I wasn't able to get my college certificate, neither was I able to get into the university." Valeria explained and Shantel could notice the pains in her voice.

"I'm sorry." Shantel apologized.

"I was hoping to look for a job at the market or a restaurant. I could be cleaner, waitress, infact anything that fits my standards." Valeria said and that broke Shantel's heart.

She hated the fact that Valeria thought so low of herself. She wished Valeria could have a little trust in herself.

"You think I'll let you work as a cleaner or as a waitress again? Never!" Shantel said and she focused her eyes back on the laptop.

"I'll look for a better job for you. You might be lucky," Shantel said.

"Shantel, please don't stress yourself on me, I'll be fine." Valeria said, but she got a response from Shantel.

She sighed, then she adjusted Fred's neck on her thighs.

She knew Shantel had her best interest at heart, but working in a company was a no no for her. She knew no one would employ a school drop out in their company.

A few minutes later, Shantel stood up and she jumped round the chair, then she sat down with smiles on her face. She would have actually screamed but she didn't wanna wake Fred up.

"What?" Valeria asked.

"I just found a job for you, and guess what..." Shantel trailed off.

"I've already submitted your application letter." Shantel said and Valeria's eyes widened.

"You did what!!" Valeria half yelled and Fred turned, scratching his eyes sleepily.

"I applied with all of your details."

"Or my God, are you crazy!!" Valeria said through gritted teeth.

All she wanted to do at that moment was scream at Shantel, but she didn't want to wake Fred up.

"Yeah, I'm crazy." Shantel replied sarcastically.

"I'm crazy about getting you a job at all costs, and instead of you sitting down there like a chicken about to lay eggs, why don't you get your fucking ass up and go get ready? You've got an interview to go to."

"What!!" Valeria yelled, and this time, Fred woke up crying.

"See what you've caused, you woke him up." Shantel said, and Valeria shot her a dangerous glare.

Valeria carried Fred in her arms, then she stood up, and she began petting him.

"Shhh...so sorry baby, mommy is so sorry for waking you up, please stop crying." Valeria cooed.

Shantel stood up, then she walked to Valeria.

"Give him to me." She said, taking Fred from Valeria. Fred had already stopped crying, but he was still sleepy. The moment Shantel took him from Valeria, he rested his head on her shoulder and went back to sleep.

"See, he's asleep already." Shantel said. Valeria sighed.

"Please Val, just go for the interview, there's no harm in trying, and who knows, you might even get the job, so just go, they need a secretary —."

"A secretary?" Valeria interrupted.

"Are you crazy, Shantel? A secretary? Do you even hear yourself? Not even a janitor, a secretary?" Valeria said in disbelief, causing Shantel to roll her eyes at her.

"Do you want to help Fred or not?" Shantel asked.

"What kind of question is that? You know I'm willing to do anything for my son, no matter what it is," Valeria hastily answered.

"Good, then do this for Fred. If not for anything at all or anyone else, do this for your son, you want Fred to continue schooling, right?"

"You know I do Shantel, more than anything else."

"Great, then just do this for him. The interview will be starting soon. Just go already, you can't afford to be late."

"But...." Valeria was saying when Shantel immediately turned her back to her, making sure she got a good view of Fred's face.

"Look at him Val, look at your son, forget about the buts and give this a trial, do this for him." Shantel said.

Valeria looked at Fred's face for sometime and couldn't afford to let Fred stop schooling, and what kind of a mother would she be if she let that happen? She'd never be able to forgive herself if she didn't give this a trail, for Fred's sake at least.

Valeria sighed deeply.

"Fine, I'll do it." She said in surrender.

"Yes!" Shantel cheered softly.

"You've done the necessary things, right?"

"Trust me girl, I've got that part settled, all you need to do is go inside and get dressed. I'll be with Fred today."

"Thank you Shantel."

"Thank me later sweety, just go already." Shantel said in excitement.

"Yeah." Valeria said as she ran upstairs. Soon, she came back.

"What's it this time?" Shantel asked.

"What's the company's name?"

"NM investment limited."

"Got it." Valeria said, then she ran to her room.

"I pray things work out." Shantel muttered.
