Chapter 3: Chapter 3
Chapter 3 Exchange Ownership
Bella didn't know how long it was before she stopped crying.
When she placed her hands on her knees and stood up slowly, she saw Edward's wet shoulder.
Look at what she had done! She was so discourteous!
She hurriedly said, "I'm sorry I got your coat wet. Let me change it for you."
Then she went forward and took off his coat.
"No." Edward raised a hand and stopped her, "I'll do it myself."
He sat up slightly, took off his coat, and placed it on his leg, revealing his white sweater.
Edward's shoulders were broad. His arms were muscular, and his chest was massive. Apparently, he had been keeping fit.
Bella twisted her hands, and her ears were hot, "I cried for a long time."
She thought Edward would politely comfort her. However, he nodded in agreement, "It's indeed a long time. I suggest you apply ice to your eyes to reduce swelling before you go to bed."
Bella was stunned and immediately touched her eyes.
Were her eyes swollen?
She had an impulse to rush to the mirror to check it.
But she'd better send Edward back to his room first.
"You..." She hesitated.
Edward calmly interrupted her, "You still love your ex-husband, don’t you?"
WTF?!
Edward's words caught Bella off guard. For a moment, she didn't know what to say.
Edward looked down at his coat, "I can tell that you still love your ex-husband."
What? He misunderstood her just because she couldn't help crying!
Bella wanted to snatch the coat and cut it into pieces.
Reason told her not to do so, and she took a deep breath.
After all, he gave her a shoulder to rely on when she cried, and the coat was innocent.
She raised her chin, "Even though I cried hard, it doesn’t mean I can’t let go."
Edward asked, "So, what’s your plan?"
Bella hesitated. She bit her lip, "I don't know."
Since she and David divorced, it was impossible for her to live in David’s house anymore. She had no choice but to move in with her parents. Thinking of this, she sighed silently, she would then become their laughing stock, after all, they have never been satisfied with her.
She was silent for a moment and asked him, "What about you?"
Edward replied quickly, "I am disabled now. I have no residence and no income. I'll probably end up on the streets begging for a living."
This house was owned by Bella's parents, Mr. and Mrs. White. After Edward went bankrupt, Lanny moved here with him.
Bella couldn't bear to see Edward in such a situation, and she reassured him, "No, you won't, I'll ask them to let you live here."
Edward smirked slightly, “But there’s no one to take care of me. Would you do that for me?”
Edward's boldness embarrassed Bella, but she could only grit her teeth and say, "don’t be kidding."
Edward smiled, "Don’t get me wrong. I mean what I say"
Bella glared at him.
Edward was certainly not a gentleman. He was a cheeky rascal.
"I'm tired. Go back to your room." Bella grabbed the armrest of the wheelchair, pushed Edward out of the room, and then closed the door.
"Don't forget to use ice to reduce the swelling." Edward's voice sounded outside the door.
Bella snorted, ran to the bed, and lay down. As she closed her eyes, all those bad memories flooded in her mind. She rubbed her hair and felt upset.
She got out of bed and decided to get some ice in the fridge so that she could stop thinking.
Walking to the living room, Bella saw Mrs. white there.
Mrs. White had just arrived. She put a small red suitcase on the carpet and took off her hat.
"Mom, what are you doing here?" Bella asked.
Shouldn't Mrs. White be celebrating with Lanny at this time?
"Lanny asked me to bring you something." Said Mrs. White.
Bella was disappointed.
Although she knew it was impossible, she hoped that her mother could come here for her.
Mrs. White nodded at the suitcase beside her feet, "Here is everything you have."
Bella looked at the pitifully small suitcase.
If she had to go out for a day, this suitcase was not even enough to carry her things.
She squatted down and untied the buckle of the suitcase. There were only her credentials and two recipes in the kitchen.
Bella confirmed that there was nothing else in it before she stood up again.
She pointed to the stuff, "Mom, are these all I have? Are you sure you're not kidding me?"
Mrs. White sat uneasily on the sofa, "What else do you want?"
Bella felt sad, "I'm going to meet Lanny and make it clear to her face to face."
"Don't bother your sister." Mrs. White leaned forward, "Since you've divorced David, those things don't belong to you anymore because they were bought with David's money. Those are Lanny's now."
Bella clenched her fists, "What about Lanny's property? According to this, she should return all the things she bought with Edward's money."
Mrs. White said, "No, Lanny's property belongs to herself. Every penny she spent was earned by herself."
"She's lying." Bella trembled with anger.
What annoyed Bella most was that Mrs. White was completely on Lanny's side. She didn't think for her at all.
Wasn't she Mr. and Mrs. White's daughter?
Mrs. White threw a dress into the suitcase and covered the credentials and recipes.
It was an old white dress. Bella once saw Lanny wear it.
"Wear this dress to the wedding party." Said Mrs. White.
Bella picked up the dress and threw it on the ground, "I won't wear it."
Lanny gave her the dress she didn't want and asked her to wear it to her wedding party. She must want to humiliate her.
In Lanny's opinion, she could only use everything she didn't want.
She wouldn't be at Lanny's mercy.
Mrs. White said coldly, "Are you going to go against me?"
Lanny chose not to look at her face.
She closed the suitcase, buckled it, and then lifted it, "I won't wear it, and I won't go to the wedding party, either."
Bella said and turned to leave.
Mrs. white took Bella's arm from behind, "You have no choice."
Bella said stubbornly, "No matter what you say, I won't agree."
Mrs. White told Bella a piece of shocking news, "You must come. I will introduce your new husband at the wedding."
Her new husband?! Who?!
Bella slowly turned around, "Mom, are you kidding me?"
Mrs. White raised her eyebrows, "How could I joke about such a thing?"
Bella couldn't accept the news.
She asked anxiously, " Crazy! All of you are crazy! What is this drama about? You want me to play a fool?"
Mrs. white loosened her grip on Bella, " It's useless for you to know this. Just do what you can do for him."
Bella felt that Mrs. White had had the initiative.
Mrs. White put the dress in Bella's hand, "We attach great importance to tomorrow's wedding party. If you still want to live in my house, do what I said."
Bella could only stare at that dress.
She was very unwilling.
Mrs. White glanced at the second floor, "You and Edward should attend the party on time. Don't spoil the party."
"I will, but please don't embarrass a man in the wheelchair." Bella lowered her voice.
It was cruel to let a man who had lost everything attend his ex-wife's wedding party.
Mrs. White sneered and said, "If he doesn't attend the party, let him leave here and sleep with the tramps."
Bella couldn't believe that Mrs. White was so heartless. In the past, she was proud of having a rich and powerful son-in-law like Edward.
Mrs. White put on her hat, "Give me your wedding ring, and I'll give it to Lanny."
"You're late." Bella threw away the suitcase and dress and showed her hands to Mrs. white, "Lanny has taken it away."
Mrs. White rolled her eyes at Bella and turned to leave.
