Chapter 249: Chapter 249

[ALPHA KILLIAN’s Point of View]

“What exactly are we doing here?”

I pretended I didn’t hear Killian because he was getting a little bit on my nerves the second he insisted he would come with us to the Wolf Tomb in the middle of the Black Forest.

After seeing the infiltrator, dead inside my f*cking home, all I wanted was to check if there were still more roaming around my territory. So I ordered Liam to gather a patrol group and check every suspicious person walking anywhere near the Pack Manor. I had no patience anymore for these people. If I find out any of them were lurking around my place, I would kill them in a heartbeat.

After the dead body was removed from the room where Diana and Devon found the spy, I decided right away to look around the borders of my territory and go to Wolf Tomb, where the tracks led me. They were still fresh, and I had no idea why it led us to the place where we all thought we could destroy the source of the curse.

As confused as I was, Samantha looked around and was frowning as she tried to understand why the track led us to the mausoleum. Could it be that the Black Claws came here, believing that the curse was still present in this place? I wonder why the spy risked its life to get into that part of the Pack Manor. Devon screamed that the man was after my wife’s wedding dress, which didn’t make sense to me. Why would he want a d*mn dress?! What was in that dress?!

I could sense there was something Samantha was not telling me. The way she suddenly succumbed to her thoughts. The way her eyes turned steady. Her breath became shallow and rapid as if something was making her panic from within.

She must have seen something. And whatever it was, I had a feeling it wasn’t pleasant at all. Because I saw that fear in her eyes whenever she tried to hide it.

“Find something that can lead us to his group or whoever his leader is,” I snarled at Killian, who sat on a boulder with a confused look on his face. I didn’t tell him to go with me, and my wife and I couldn’t believe he had the audacity to complain!

“Whoever his leader is, that man is probably at the western border of your territory already. We won’t find them here.”

“How do you know we won’t find them here, Killian? Do you know any of these people?” Samantha asked, her face stoic.

I had never seen her behave like that in Killian, ever.

Something was definitely happening, and I didn’t know why, but I was getting curious and amused watching my wife look pissed at the man I was feeling jealous of.

Killian was taken aback by Samantha’s attitude towards him, and he frowned as he smiled at her, confused if he said or did something wrong to make her react to him like that. I stood straight, folded my arms on my chest, and watched the two start an argument.

The only thing that was in my head was that I would really enjoy the panic on Killian’s face.

“What are you talking about, Sam? Are you thinking I have something to do with this?” Killian asked, smiling awkwardly as he stood from his seat, and for a second, I wanted to believe as well that he was indeed hiding something from us about the Black Claw spies in Silver Crescent.

“You seem to know so much about what is happening,” Samantha answered, taking her gaze away from Killian as she squinted her eyes and looked at the trees that surrounded us. “I just wonder why you are so interested in this thing. What do you call that? The Moonlight Mirror? Could you please take a moment to explain that to Dominic and me?”

I squinted my eyes as well. Now it is getting intriguing.

“How do you know about the Moonlight Mirror?” Killian asked, his face pale as he stared at Samantha’s eyes like he had forgotten that I was there, standing between them.

“It doesn’t matter how I found out about it. You are keeping something from us, and I need to know what is going on, Killian.” Samantha demanded answers from Killian, which made me frown. She looked distressed, and I didn’t like it.

Killian seemed troubled as he struggled with whether or not to tell Samantha about the thing. I tried not to utter anything as Samantha waited for Killian to answer, making the tension between the three of us so thick you could slice it with any blade.

“You saw the note. I must have dropped it when I went to Dominic’s office.” Killian seemed to evade the question as he lowered his gaze to the ground with a heavy sigh.

“Yes. I saw it, and I need an explanation of what that note means.” Samantha scowled at him. “If the Black Claws offered something to you, then tell us now, Killian, so we all can work it through.”

“What do you mean, offer?” I was too curious not to intervene anymore, and then tilted my head as my frown deepened at Killian. “What does this mean, Killian? Did you just negotiate with the Black Claws?”

“No. It’s not what you think it is.” Killian started to defend himself as he shook his head.

Yeah, he still had no intention to tell us anything about this mirror and the deal he made with the Black Claws.

Killian took something from his bag, though, and then threw it at Samantha. “I need you to trust me, Sam. I will tell you everything once I figure this all out. But for now, I  need you to drink this. This forest is full of poison and the remnants of the curse, so I need you to protect yourself with this potion. It had the same components as the one that temporarily healed me from the curse, so it is totally safe.”

Samantha caught the thing, but she raised one eyebrow at Killian. “What makes you think I will drink this? For all I know, you could have put poison in this potion.”

“What?!” Killian grimaced at Samantha’s response to him, “Why would I do that?! I am here to keep everyone safe and not f*cking kill you. If I wanted you dead, I would let those *ssholes invade your home, Samantha. I wouldn’t be here helping Silver Crescent to fight the Black Claws and the shadow werewolves. I would have just focused on my pack and on my mate and stopped coming in this g*dd*mned forest!”

My brows lifted at everything Killian said. Was I offended? Maybe? But he was right when he said I needed help against the thousand enemies camping outside my walls, so I couldn’t scowl or be sarcastic about everything he said. He was indeed here and helped us so many times that it was enough reason for me to feel threatened by his presence when he’s in Silver Crescent and in front of my wife.

“I have no idea what you and Samantha are arguing about, Killian. But because you proved to me your loyalty to the alliance and how much you care for her and the twins, I guess I can wait until you can tell us everything you know about this Moonlight Mirror and the things you negotiated with the enemies outside my walls.” I uttered coldly to the MoonStone Alpha, and I was surprised that he felt relieved at everything I said.

“But once you make any wrong move,” I glared at him sharply as my eyes darkened and my iris turned crimson as my Alpha power emerged. “I will not think twice of tearing your head from your shoulders.”

Killian grinned as if wanting me to know that he wasn’t threatened by all the things I said. “Good. I expect that from you.”

Samantha suddenly looked worried as she stared at me and then at Killian, and I didn’t know if she was so anxious about the tension happening between us that she gulped the whole bottle of potion in two big swigs.

I heard something coming so fast that it only took me a few seconds to jump on my wife and push her away from the thing that was coming towards us.

But I guess I was a little bit late.

I was able to push Samantha away from the silver arrow that darted towards us, but it grazed my shoulder blade, deep enough to make me bleed.

For a second, I felt a searing pain. Then it got intense. Like fire burning underneath my skin. So painful that I fell on one knee as I tried not to fall when I started to feel dizzy. The adrenaline kicked in, keeping me from passing out.

“No, I’m fine. It’s not that serious!” I quickly embraced Samantha, who panicked for a second after she saw the wound on my chest. “It’s just a small wound.”

“But it’s silver, Dominic! It’s poisoned! We have to go back to Silver Crescent! Now!” Samantha half yelled at me as she examined my shirt, already soaked in blood. “We have healers to examine your wound!”

Yes, the curse was no longer in my body, but the silver poison would still slow down my healing ability, which made Samantha fearful, thinking it had hit an artery.

“I’m fine, my love,” I whispered to her, trying to calm her down, but her eyes just widened when the blood refused to stop.

Killian pulled bandages from his bag and wrapped them around me. His hands were quick, though, as he tried to put pressure to make the bleeding stop.

“I can heal him with my blood—”

“No, it’s okay. I will be alright.” I stopped my wife from cutting her hand to use her blood to heal my wound. “I don’t want you hurting yourself just to save me, my love. I will be okay.” I smiled sweetly at her.

I saw the gentleness in Samantha’s eyes, and I knew her feelings were still there for me. Like it was telling me there was nothing for me to worry about because she still loved me.

She still loved me and her feelings—there was nothing changed about it.
