Chapter 237: Chapter 237

[ALPHA DOMINIC’s Point of View]

There was no way Killian just threw away the only thing that could save him.

Why would he do that? Why did he give the cure to me?

So many thoughts ran through my head. Killian hated me to the core, and I knew he wouldn’t just give the cure for nothing.

Was he expecting something from me? Was he thinking that Samantha would like him more if he sacrificed the only thing that would keep him alive just to impress her? But that thought seems foolish, though.

If he wanted my wife, he would just wait until I died from the curse and take her away from Silver Crescent. But he didn’t do that. Instead, he gave me the jade blade. And I couldn’t understand why. What was his purpose in saving me?

I looked at Killian, and his eyes didn’t leave Samantha. My wolf was telling me he was a threat to me and my mate. It was obvious that he still wanted my wife. But how could I hate him when he was doing it for her and the twins?

Samantha was in agony thinking about who the man was in the photograph with her mother. I had no idea about him as well, but I could tell Lord Markis knew about something, so I asked with a low growl. “If you know anything about this, then you’d better tell us now.”

“You don’t have to say anything. I can see what that picture means.” With a hard look on her face, Samantha wiped her tears with the back of her hand, determined not to break down after seeing the picture. “Let’s just take the kids out of this place.”

To my surprise, Killian coughed so hard, and all of us witnessed the blood dripping down his mouth. All the color on my wife’s face faded as soon as she realized what was happening to Killian. He was slowly deteriorating.

“Killian!” she screamed as she helped him when he almost lost his balance. Devon and Diana were about to run towards them, and I felt awful that I had to pull them behind me, but I wouldn’t let my twins get near Killian in case he lost control over himself.

“I’m alright!” Killian didn’t let Samantha go anywhere near him either, so Samantha let him go and walked towards me—her face was a mirror of fear and worry as she grabbed my hand and held me tight.

“It’s something I can’t handle.” Killian tried to laugh off the pain, but my wife and I knew that he was being tortured from the inside. “I am going to be fine.”

“Markis, at least let me know how we can help, Killian!” I didn’t know, but I was starting to panic. It was serious! He was f*cking dying!

“Can that little bottle help Uncle Killian?” Diana pointed to something inside the box, which distracted me and Samantha. “My wolf told me it has something to do with the curse.”

Lord Markis slightly grinned and nodded his head. "Good. I am amazed that your wolf communicates with you so well, despite your age," he said, raising an eyebrow at Diana. My little girl became a bit intimidated by the old man and hid behind me again. “But yes, the potion inside that bottle will help the young MoonStone Alpha. The result would be only temporary, though. But it would slow down the deterioration of his cells because of the curse.”

“That’s fine with me!” Killian grabbed the bottle and emptied it in one huge swig.

Not a minute later, the black veins started to disappear, and the color on his face and skin returned to a healthy color. Samantha and the kids smiled in relief while I stared down at Killian, still wondering why he let me use the jade blade instead of saving himself.

“Wow! Goddess, that feels better!” Killian blurted in a raspy tone as he gasped. He stood from the floor, pulling himself up while he grabbed onto the carved table of the platform. He closed his eyes and then smiled, a sign that he was finally relieved from that unbearable pain. “Thank you, old man.”

"Are you saying that what’s inside the box was only a temporary cure for the curse?" My wife asked, disappointed that everything we put effort into was just a hoax. “Does this mean that the source of the curse is not really here? Then where is it, Lord Markis?! We have to destroy the d*mn thing to end all this suffering!”

“I am just a guardian here, child. Even I don’t know the answer to all of this,” Lord Markis answered as he sighed, “I am only taking care of this place and making sure no dark creatures would enter this sacred place. As much as I want to help, I am afraid I don’t have the answer to what you are seeking here.”

Shaking my head in frustration, I couldn’t do anything but look at Killian. He was still catching his breath from the pain. He looked back at me, unsmiling, and then nodded, as if he understood how thankful I was for the sacrifice he made.

“Mom? Look! Whose hair is that?”

“It must be my Mom’s...” Samantha whispered to Devon and then took the lock of hair from the box. To her surprise, the hair wrapped itself around her wrist, forming a braid of a bracelet around it.

“That is your mother’s fate thread, where she sealed half of her powers in it.” Lord Markis started explaining as he looked down at my wife’s wrist. “The fate thread chooses you, and now, it is passing its powers into you, Luna of the Silver Crescent.”

The braid of hair shone golden around Samantha’s wrist, and Devon and Diana gasped as they watched golden ink appear from her forearm like a gilded tattoo of the insignia of the Royal Clan of the Primordial Blood. I froze as I watched because it just confirmed everything—that Samantha was indeed from that rare bloodline. It made me wonder what my council’s reaction would be once they learned about Samantha’s origin.

Behind Samantha was a light that materialized into a wolf—Samantha’s wolf. Only it looked more beautiful and powerful because of the new power that was transferred to her from the fate thread. It was still a faint color of gold with a shade of red on the tips of the fur, making the wolf look breathtaking as we all stared at its gilded eyes with the mark of the moon on her forehead.

“Mom’s wolf is so beautiful...” Diana gasped as we all stared at Samantha and her wolf. The gilded light surrounded my wife, making her look flawless. We could all feel it too. The power. The warmth she emitted felt like a ray of sun in the very early morning. It was comforting. Nice. Reassuring.

She and my kids are my home.

As soon as the light dimmed and disappeared, I stepped toward my wife, held both of her hands, and squeezed them. I stared into her eyes and leaned down to kiss her soft lips, making her gasp.

She is mine. Always mine. The latest_epɪ_sodes are on_the NoveI~Fire.net

It was as if I was falling for Samantha over and over again.
