Chapter 236: Chapter 236

[SAMANTHA’s Point of View]

“But how are we going to open it without sacrificing a wolf?” Diana asked, scared of whatever was inside the old silver box. “We have no idea what’s inside. What if it’s another curse, just like the crystal orb that the phantom lady shattered?”

“What’s inside the box?” I asked Lord Markis, desperate to know whatever was inside. I had this instinct—the desire to know whatever was inside. My wolf was whispering to me that it had a connection to me—something that was about my origin, from the bloodline I came from.

“I see that you have the Jade blade, young Alpha of the MoonStone pack.” Lord Markis ignored me instead and put his focus on Killian. “You would have used it to save yourself, to save you from the curse and release yourself from its grasp. Why did you give it to the man whom you never liked from the very beginning?”

Killian lowered his eyes and looked at the ground as if thinking deeply. He then grinned. Even Dominic wanted to know what my friend’s reason was. Because Lord Markis was right, he could have used it on himself to get rid of the darkness that was possessing his body. He had it all this time, and yet he held on to it to save a person other than himself.

That selfless act made me admire my friend more. I couldn’t understand this feeling, but I was grateful! I was so thankful that my heart couldn’t contain it. It made my eyes teary.

We didn’t have to sacrifice our wolves, but Killian sacrificed his only chance to get rid of the curse in his body. He sacrificed the only cure that would save him.

“Where did you get that thing, Killian?” I asked after I suddenly got curious about it.

Killian sighed before he turned to look at me and then smiled at me with sad eyes. “Well, I got this thing from your mother.” Check latest chapters at novelFɪre.net

My eyes widened. It wasn’t the answer I anticipated from him. How did he know about my mother? How did the two of them met?!

So many questions popped up in my head that I wasn’t able to utter them. I was too shocked to throw questions anymore, so I bit my lower lip and then shook my head slightly, confused at what was going on.

I know many questions are going on inside your head, Sam, but let’s talk about them some other time. I will explain everything to you. Not now, though. If you badly want to know what’s inside the box, we have to figure out how to open it.” Killian said with a little panic in his voice. He saw the dread on my face and decided to change the topic instead as he turned to the old man next. “You know the jade blade, and it helped eliminate the curse. Does it mean we can also use it to open that old silver box?”

Lord Markis answered as he raised an eyebrow. He rubbed his chin and then looked at the jade blade that was in the hand of my husband.

“If it cleared the curse from the Silver Crescent Alpha, then it probably would open the box. You can try placing it on top of the lid. See if it will work.”

Dominic looked down at the thing and then held it tight in his hand. I didn’t know what he was thinking. But I could tell on his face that he still couldn’t believe the curse was finally expelled from his body.

“Dominic, Lord Markis said to place that thing on top of the box,” Killian repeated what the old man said, thinking that Dominic probably must not have heard the old guardian. “We need to know what’s inside that thing.”

“Why would Samantha’s mother give you such a thing?” Dominic, instead of doing what Killian said, asked suspiciously. “What is your business with Samantha’s mother, Killian? Why would she trust you with this?”

“Those questions rose in my head, too, but I trust Killian, Dominic. Whatever the connection he had with my mother, I knew he would tell us after we finished everything we needed to do here. We just need you to open the old silver box.”

Seeing the fear in my eyes, Dominic understood that we had to do it. I didn’t know what he was thinking about the Jade blade, nor did I understand his plans for it. But when he stepped in towards the carved table, instead of putting the Jade blade on top of the box, Dominic stabbed the thing with it, and lights shot out from the inside, blinding all of us for seconds.

“What the f*ck, Dominic!?”

Killian’s snarl didn’t stop my husband. I wanted to pull him away from the thing, afraid that he was about to destroy it, but he didn’t. When my vision finally focused, I looked down and saw that the box was open.

There was no crystal ball that contained a curse. There were no strange objects present, only a photograph and a small bottle containing a purple liquid. I didn’t know what to feel as I looked down. More like disappointed? We went through so much fear, so much tension for what?! For a photograph and a small bottle of whatever that was for?!

“What is this? I thought this was the source of the curse?!” I asked Lord Markis, enraged at what I saw because it was something I never expected. Was this some kind of a joke?! I had no idea what was happening!

“Mom? Who are these people?”

I took the photograph from Devon’s hand and gasped a little when I recognized it was my Mom. But there was another man beside her, and they both looked happy. Mom looked bright and happy.

“If it weren’t for her sacrifice just to keep you alive, your Mom would probably still be alive with that man.” Lord Markis said with a soft, sad voice. He took a lock of thin, long black hair from the box and felt it in his fingers.

“So she was not just with the Alpha King?” Dominic asked, surprised at what we all heard. “Do you mean she’s with another werewolf other than him? What’s his connection with the curse and everything that is happening, Markis?”

I couldn’t believe what I saw in the photo.

Who was that tall, blonde man looking happy with my mother?
