Chapter 235: Chapter 235

[DIANA’s Point of View]

I didn’t understand what was happening, but I knew Mom was in great pain.

Maybe not physically. The agony in her eyes as it darkened brought a wrenching feeling in my stomach, and I fought not to cry. No. I promised Devon I wouldn’t cry in front of Mom and Dad. We promised each other that we would look and stay strong for both of them.

It hurts to see the despair on Mom and Dad’s faces. They were fighting for me and Devon. They were fighting for our future. And I wish we could do something to help. I wish I could do more to save Dad from the curse. Sadly, I was just a little girl who could see omens and signs, and at that moment, the power I possessed wasn’t helpful at all.

[Don’t feel bad about yourself, Diana.]

I heard my brother’s voice in my head, and I turned to look at him with teary eyes. I didn’t know if it was a nice thing that he could also feel what I feel because of the family bond, but I wished I could just hide it from him. I also sensed the helplessness in him, and I couldn’t do anything but reach for his hand and squeeze it, fighting so hard not to cry.

“Dad and Mom will be okay,” Devon said to me softly with a reassuring voice. “Dad will fight the curse, and Mom is there to help him. Everything will be alright, Diana. Mom will make sure everything will be alright.”

Biting my lower lip hard, I nod at my brother and watch Mom and Dad on top of the platform. Uncle Killian remained close to us, making sure my brother and I were safe. And based on what I saw on his face, I could tell there was something terrible happening up there on the platform until the old ghost man disappeared like smoke beside us and then transported himself in front of Mom and Dad.

“Uncle Killian! Are Mom and Dad alright?” Devon started to lose his patience and worriedly asked. “I can’t hear what they are talking about up there! Shouldn’t we go there and find out what is happening?” Nᴇw novel chapters are publɪshed on novel fire.net

Uncle Killian didn’t answer, though. The glare I saw in his eyes made my brother and me get more anxious. I made a step forward, but Devon stopped me. He shook his head gently, telling me it could be dangerous to step onto the platform while there was a barrier.

Barrier? I squinted my eyes, and I saw it. Yes, it was there! A thin shield-like thing that stopped anyone or anything from going towards whoever was inside of it!

Was that the reason why Devon and I couldn’t hear them?

“We have to go and know what is happening!” I grabbed the hem of Uncle Killian’s shirt as I started to panic. “Is Dad going to be alright? Why does Mom’s face look so terrified? We have to go there and help them!”

“We can’t help them, Diana. We can’t even hear what they’re saying!” Devon’s voice almost trembled while his eyes didn’t leave Mom’s face. “What we can only do now is wait until this is over.”“Is Dad going to be alright? Could the old man take the curse from him?” I knew Devon and Uncle Killian were scared and worried as well, but I couldn’t help myself from talking. I was nervous! I was afraid we would lose both of them!

“It’s okay, Diana, we are not losing Mom and Dad.” Devon squeezed my hand back and then pulled me behind him. “Just stay behind me in case something unexpected happens. I promised Mom I would protect you no matter what.”

I saw Mom grab Dad’s hand as she screamed. Were they fighting? I didn’t know what was happening anymore, so I snatched my hand away from my brother and followed my instinct.

I ran straight to the barrier, not caring if it would hurt me.

But it was too late to stop at that moment.

The barrier felt like a soft, cool jelly that bounced when I ran straight to it until I completely got inside. Devon and Uncle Killian’s mouths both gaped as they saw me, telling them that I was completely fine and was still alive. I gestured to assure them that it was safe—that I was alright. But hesitation was etched on Devon and Uncle Killian’s faces until they had no choice but to get into the barrier and hope they wouldn’t die.

“F*ck, that was scary!” Uncle Killian burst in fright as his eyes widened in disbelief, still checking if he had lost a limb or two. “Don’t ever do that again, little Missy!”

“Oh my goddess, Diana!” Devon’s eyes, despite the fear, were lit with excitement as his mouth stretched into a wide grin. “That was awesome!”

“YOU ARE THE PACK’S ALPHA, DOMINIC!” Mom’s voice boomed inside the barrier, making me almost jump because I had never heard her scream like that. “YOU CAN’T DO THIS TO ME AND THE KIDS! YOU CAN’T!”

“But I am also their father, Samantha!” Dad answered, but this time, he wasn’t screaming back at Mom. He was calm and grim, but he looked collected. “It doesn’t matter if I lose my wolf! It doesn’t matter to me if I lose Silver Crescent! What matters to me is to stay with you and the kids!”

“Yeah? Stay with them and what?” Uncle Killian suddenly screamed at Dad with a disappointed look on his face. “How are you going to protect them if you lose your wolf? idiot?! How are you going to keep them alive until all this chaos is over? Surviving this curse is just not enough, Dominic! Your pack needs you! Samantha is right! You can’t lose your wolf!”

Dad’s attention was focused on Uncle Killian as his jaw stiffened and his eyes darkened. “We have no choice, Killian. I won’t let any of my kids sacrifice their wolf for me.”

“Isn’t it for us to decide!?” Devon answered back at Dad, with anguish in his tone, which made me want to cry because I didn’t understand what was happening anymore. “Shouldn’t we decide if we want to sacrifice our wolf or not? Because I am old enough to know the consequences of what would happen.”

“No! You can’t sacrifice your wolf either.” Uncle Killian bent down to look into my brother’s eyes while resting his hands on Devon’s shoulders. “You are the future of the Silver Crescent Pack, kid. You can’t sacrifice your wolf to save your father.”

“But what are we going to do then? Let Dad die?!” Devon spat angrily as he bared his teeth. He wasn’t angry at Uncle Killian; I could sense it. It was more like being helpless, and I understood how he felt.

I watched Mom stare at Dad. Her eyes were red with tears as she tried to convince him that there could be other ways, rather than sacrificing himself just to get rid of the curse. “Take my wolf, instead. If it means you will be saved, if it means you can protect the pack and the kids from the enemies, I am willing to sacrifice my wolf and my power for you, Dominic. Take it!”

“No,” he said softly to Mom while gently holding both of her hands. “I won’t let you, love. I won’t let you let go of your wolf for me. I failed to protect you for so many years. I was a monster because I hurt you when I was supposed to give you a life that you deserve.

Witnessing their deep love in that situation made it difficult for me to hold back my tears and breathe. I wanted to scream for Dad to listen to Mom, but my throat was too swollen to even speak.

To my surprise, Uncle Killian ran towards them, approaching Mom and Dad with a confident look on his face. All of us were puzzled. Devon grabbed my hand and half-dragged me up the platform, and when we were in front of Dad and Mom, I saw sorrow and fear on their faces as they both looked at me and my brother.

“Who told you to sacrifice yourself, Sam?” Uncle Killian said, still catching his breath after running up the steps. “You know I won’t let you do that either.”

“This is a family matter, MoonStone Alpha.” Dad snarled at Uncle Killian.

Instead of making Dad angrier like Uncle Killian usually did, he pulled something from under his shirt—a necklace? No. I showed a green gem that resembled a blade to Mom and Dad. “I think this is the part where I should step in. I will do it.”

“You are kidding me,” Mom snarled at Uncle Killian. “I won’t let you do that, either! You are an Alpha as well, Killian! You will lose everything!”

“You know what? We don’t have to do it yet if any of you are not ready,” Uncle Killian said as he looked at the old ghost man, who was just listening to all of them.

To our horror, he stabbed Dad in the chest with that jade blade he was holding.

Mom was so shocked that she froze while Devon screamed, and my eyes widened in dread. Everything happened so fast that none of us moved to stop Uncle Killian.

Then something unbelievable happened.

All the black veins from Dad’s body slowly disappeared, and the color of his eyes—that purple hue—vanished as well. It was as if he were suddenly cured by that jade blade. Mom was so surprised that her mouth gaped as she watched how the curse started to leave Dad’s body.

“I have to test Dominic if he really deserves to be saved,” Uncle Killian said to Mom, looking apologetic that he had something that could get rid of the curse and didn’t tell everyone about it. “But I am glad it worked, though. I doubted this could work at first, but I had to try to know.”

Dad’s chest was bleeding as he glared at Uncle Killian. “You could have killed me, idiot!”

“Well, I guess that’s a small sacrifice rather than dying of the curse and taking Samantha and the kids’ wolves.”

“Where did you get it? Killian? All this time you have had this thing and you didn’t tell me? Tell us?” There was hurt and disappointment in Mom’s tone.

“Like I said, I was testing Dominic, Sam.” Uncle Killian tried to explain himself. Even Devon and I didn’t know what to feel about it. “Look, I am so sorry but—”

I expected my Mom would burst into anger, but instead, she embraced Uncle Killian tightly.

“Thank you, Killian...” she whispered as she smiled, as tears rolled down her face. “How can I ever repay you for this?”

“You don’t have to. I told you all I want is for you to be happy.” Uncle Killian embraced Mom back.

I thought Dad would be upset seeing them, but he wasn’t. He just pulled the Jade blade from his chest, and I saw how his wound healed instantly. A sign that the thing really cured him!

“Now that Dad’s cured, I don’t think we need whatever that thing is in the box now,” Devon said when Mom gently pulled away from Uncle Killian and looked at the box.”

“I need to know whatever is inside,” Mom whispered.
