Chapter 25: Chapter 25

K Y L E

Before Brian and Ash left, they made me promise to call her and for some strange reason, I felt scared to call her.

What would she say? Will she even answer my call? What if-

I was interrupted from my thoughts when I heard a vibrating sound coming from my phone.

It was probably Brian or Ash calling to say they forgot something. I nonchalantly grab my phone without looking at the caller ID.

"Yes?" I said into the phone but there was silence at the other end. I was about to speak up again until I heard a voice.

"Hhello?" A shaky voice said into the phone. Even though I was woken up by this voice, I'd know who it belonged to.

"A.. Alexis?" I answered back and there was a little bit of silence.

"Yes. I.. I just wanted to know if you would be busy in like an hour. Or you can tell me when you would be less busy. Or if you're busy, it's no problem I can call back in a we-"

"Slow down," I chuckled. "One hour is good. Where do you want to meet up?"

"How did you know I wanted to meet up?"

"You just asked me if I was free, it's only logical that you would want to meet up or don't you?"

"Oh.. Yes I do."

"What about the cafe close to my office?"

"No, there's a Japanese restaurant close to my company. That would be better."

"Okay then. See you in an hour."

"Phew! Thank goodness! I was saved from overthinking just now." I mutter to myself.

I went to my closet and noticed that I had mainly suits. This isn't a formal meeting, I should dress casually. But I've only got pyjamas and business suits.

"That's definitely not going to work."

I picked up my phone and dialed my office line but nobody answered. I called the reception and after awhile someone answered.

"Where is Lisa?" I barked into the phone.

"She didn't turn in for work today. She claims that you fired her sir."

She was useless anyway.

"Why did Steve not send in a replacement?" I asked rubbing my forehead.

"A bunch of people came for the interview but you weren't here to make the final pick so most left."

"Most? Meaning some are still there?"

"Two are here sir. Both females but I think one fell asleep."

"Good. Inform the one that's awake that she got the job and tell her to start immediately and also to call me back in two minutes." I ordered and three my phone on the bed.

It seems like time decided to be fast today, fifteen minutes already passed with just that phone call.

My phone rang after exactly two minutes, maybe she's more efficient.

"Good afternoon sir! My name is Lucy and I'm your new assist-"

"Enough! I need you to go to a shop and get me casuals. Casuals like sweatpants, jeans and shirts. You have fifteen minutes to bring them to my house. My driver will pick you up and drop you at my house so hurry."

My stomach growled. I don't know why it just couldn't wait for me to get the restaurant first. I can't eat now, I won't get the appetite again.

I strolled to the kitchen and the first thing I notice is how empty the kitchen is. I opened the fridge and noticed that it was mostly empty.

Why have these workers not gone grocery shopping?!

I sighed and took the two chocolates I found  and ate them. I looked at my watch and it seems like this Lucy girl is running out of time, which also indirectly means I'm running out of time.

I cannot keep her waiting, she might think I changed my mind or something.

I was about to call her again but the doorbell rang and I rushed to the door and there stood a petite brunette wearing black rimmed glassed.

"Sorry sir! There was traffic jam on the road, I had to leave the car and come by foot."

"I'm impressed Lucy, Take this." I praised and gave her five hundred dollars.

She took the money and let out a squeal. I closed the door and went to get changed.

I dressed and left for the restaurant wearing grey sweatpants and a casual black polo. Around the sees this will definitely not know what I had to go through to get this.

I got to the restaurant exactly five o'clock and sat down, waiting. But because something bad always likes happening to me, I felt a bad urge to wee. I was glad that she hadn't arrived yet and quickly went to the bathroom.

When I came out, I collided with a little blonde girl who has her hair in pigtails.

"Sorry!" She Apologized bowing her head then she ran away.

She seemed oddly familiar, it maybe it's my father instincts that was making me think every blonde girl is my daughter.

I guess she should be here by now.

I stood at a corner and scanned faces for someone familiar and I caught view of a woman wearing a black Lacy dress seated close to the door and even from far she looked gorgeous.

As I approached her, I could feel my lips bend into a smile.

"Hey!" I greeted, sticking out my hand.

"Hi!" She replied immediately and took my hand.

Our table was silent, and it wasn't the comfortable silent. Should I say something? What should I say?

"So.." We both said at the same time and we looked at each other and smiled.

"Excuse me, would you like to order now?" A waiter stood beside me.

"Yes, what would you like?" I asked Alexis who took a look at the menu.

"I'll have the fugu donburi." She smiled.

"Make that two."

"Oh, and a juice box please." She added before the waiter left.

"I think I should apologise, for everything." She started and watched her hand play with her dress.

I can't believe this, she still doesn't know how to maintain eye contact.

"I found out that I was pregnant after like a month that you left Glendale. My aunt threw me and Sophie out of the house because she claimed she couldn't afford more mouths to feed. Sophie took up the responsibility of taking care of me. After I had Kylie, I wanted Sophie to have time for herself and not always be occupied with me so I enrolled in a college to pursue a degree. At the time, Sophie was working for a rich model and I got to meet someone who gave me practicals on event management and slowly I became successful. I didn't want to burden you after I told you to leave, I just assumed bringing her up Alone was my punishment for telling you to leave."

"We could have done it together though! The thought alone if having a child with you makes me ecstatic."

"I heard about you! How you became a young heir after graduating with a first class in business. How could I burden you with a child at that time?"

"Then why didn't you also tell me about her when we meet again?"

"You were engaged to someone else and I couldn't destroy your relationship. I genuinely like Penelope, dudes a sweet girl and I couldn't just hurt her by getting her marriage called off because of the past. I'm sorry. I really am."

"I will admit that I was furious but I'm not anymore. I also admit that I was going to take you to court but I won't anym-"

"Oh really," she interrupted giving me an incredulous look and I gave a half smile.

"I'm not gonna anymore! I'll speak to my parents and make sure it's solved." I ended as the waiter served the food.

As soon as he dropped it, both Alexis and I started digging in. Send she was as hungry as I am.

We had our food in silence but this time I believe the silence was a comfortable silence.

"Mommy!" A high pitched voice called and ran to meet Alexis.

"Are you done playing? Take this." She handed the juice box to Kylie and I just watched.

"Hello sir." She greeted me with a smile as she took a seat in between her mother and I.

"You brought her?" I asked and obvious question and she nodded.

"I've kept her away for so long. Not anymore."

"Did you already tell her that-"

"That you are my daddy?" Kylie completed with a huge grin.

Alexis and I stood confused as see uttered those words.

"I knew from the first day! The screams were heard all over the house." She further explained.

"My baby is one smart cookie!" Alexis praised.

"Kylie, I'm really sorry for yelling at your mother like that-"

"Don't be sorry! Be happy you found me daddy!" She smiled and came over to hug me.

At this moment, everything felt truly complete.

I hugged her back and gave her a kiss on the top of her head. I don't let her sit on the chair, I kept her on my lap throughout."

After dinner, we stood outside and I offered to drop them home but Alexis declined the offer.

"So, what about Penelope? Please don't cancel your wedding because of me and Kylie! I promise you that there's nothing wrong with having parents that don't live together, she just needs your presence and that's all."

"That right! Penelope!" I said louder than I intended to.

"The wedding head been arranged. Everything is fixed. Decorators, caterrers, music. Everything. Don't feel obligated to do anything more for us."

"I-I see..see you later then."

"Goodnight Kylie!" I smiled and hugged my precious little girl before leaving.

Penelope is the next on my list.
