Chapter 129: Chapter 129
(Avery’s Thoughts)
It’s been days since I got admitted in the hospital due to fatigue and too much stressed. But when I came here, Dmitri put me in a VIP room. But because of what happened to him and Jeff, I requested him to transfer me to another hospital, and of course, to give him some peace of mind.
He quickly agrees to it and they transfer me the next day. Now, I am still here, lying down and currently looking at the ceiling.
The sliding door opens and when I look at the direction of it, a handsome little boy runs to me and climbs the bed with all his might.
Then I hear Kendra’s voice from the outside, “Oh my god, Kervin, be careful, get off at aunt’s bed, she’s not yet well,” she screams and puts him down.
But the little boy throws his tantrums, “No, no, I want Aunt Pretty. If I kiss her, she will be okay, right? Right?”
Then he pulls my hand, and I hold his gentle tiny hands, “Yes, of course, baby boy. I haven’t seen you for two years, and here you are, you have gotten so big, huh?”
Then I pat his head and he looks extremely happy. Then Kendra carries him so he could kiss me on my cheeks, and Kendra greets me with a kiss, too.
Then Kendra sits him on the couch and takes out his iPad to keep him still, “Okay, be good, baby. I have to talk to Aunt A, okay?”
Then he cheerfully answers, “Yes, yes.”
“Sorry, I have to bring him here since no one will take care of him for a week, and I feel so stressed even if it is just for a day,” K complains while rolling her eyes here and there.
I giggle, “Chill it’s been a while since you’ve been with him, I am pretty sure he missed you a lot. So, is Nik okay with it?” I ask her.
She sighs, “Nik wants him around to be honest. You know, he is really good with kids, well, he has two kids after all,” she says sarcastically.
My eyes couldn’t help but look sad, “K, how are you and Nik? Is he not going to divorce her yet? It’s been two years since i was gone right? Yet, nothing progresses?”
I know she is trying to avoid this conversation, but for some reason, we have no one but each other to talk to, “To be honest, his wife is asking for too much. She is tricky, and clever like a vixen.”
“I think it’s in their blood,” I blurt out, and then we look at each other and laugh.
Then she pulls the chair beside my bed and begins to ask question.
“You know, I couldn’t ask you about it last time, since Jeff was here all day, all night, so I only had this chance,” she looks at me with her quirky eyes.
“What happened that day? I heard you vomited and collapsed. But you weren’t pregnant, so it means your panic was triggered, right?” she is keen with the detail.
I nod, “Yes, I witnessed something I shouldn’t have, and that made me sick, K. But it wasn’t mine to share, so is it okay if we skip that part, please?” I hold her hand and squeeze it.
She looks at me for a while, “Fine. It’s alright, A. Just let me know if you need help.” Then she looks at my left hand and trace my ring finger, “So, I don’t see the ring anymore, who called it off?” she asks while raising her eyebrows.
“I did.”
“Hmm, so does it mean you would choose the asshole over the saint, huh?” she sarcastiscally says full of mockery.
“Neither, K. I chose myself. I choose to find my peace,” and the moment I say this, she hugs me really tight.
“Great job, A. Finally!” she says and then she pats my head like a mom pampering a daughter.
“And what did Jeff say about it?” her interrogation continues.
“We actually didn’t break up. But we decided to call off the wedding, not until we are both ready. So he says it’s okay. He has forgiven me, yes, but I don’t want him to suffer anymore, so I need to make sure of what I want first,” I explain while looking down.
Then she smiles at me, “At least you are okay. One day, we will find our happiness, Avery. Let’s strive harder until that day comes.”
Then both of us end up embracing each other when Jeff appears on the doors and teases us, “Oh no! I thought I only have to look out for men, now, I have to look out for you, too, huh Kendra?” his arms is on his waist, while holding some plastics of goodies.
“Oh, you should know it by now, Avery will choose me over you,” then she laughs devilishly.
K and Jeff look so comfortable with each other. They easily get along and I am at least happy to know that.
Jeff goes to me and kisses me, “Hey, babe, how are you feeling?” says him, as caring as ever.
I nod and give him a sweet smile, “Yes, babe. Thank you. By the way, a nurse came by awhile ago and he’s looking for my guardian.”
“Did he say anything?” he asks wondering.
I shrug my shoulder, “Nothing, he says nothing. When I said you were out to buy some things, he went out without even answering.”
Jeff and K look at each other but say nothing.
All of a sudden, Kervin screams loudly at Jeff, “You! Who are you? Why are you in my Aunt Pretty’s room?” his hands are on his waist and he sternly looks at Jeff.
K and I laugh at him, while Jeff goes down to his level.
“Hmm, I think I’ve met another competition, huh,” Jeff says.
“What competition?” Kervin asks him. So Jeff plays along with him.
“In winning Avery’s heart!” Jeff says and extends his hand, “My name is Jeff Tales and I am Avery’s boyfriend.”
Kervin eyes’ bawl out crying as he hears the word boyfriend, “Boyfriend?! What? No! Aunt Pretty can’t have a boyfriend. I will be his boyfriend when I grow up, so you get out, get out.”
And his tantrums get even wilder, even K couldn’t control him.
But surprisingly Jeff is good with kids.
“Okay, so why don’t we do this, let’s fight over ice cream for now, okay? If you beat me, I will let you date, her, deal?” Jeff says.
Kervin stops crying and focuses his attention to what Jeff said.
“R-really? D-do they have good ice cream here? And w-will you helo me pick a good place for our date?” Kervin asks.
“Sure, if you beat me, okay?” then they sealed it with a handshake.
“Ladies, we boys, will settle it outside, okay? And I’ll bring anurse in to check up on you,” says Jeff, and they disappear from the door while Jeff is holding Kervin in his muscular hand.
K and I take a deep sigh, “Kervin hasn’t get rid of his tantrums, yet, my god,” I say.
“Beats me, that’s why my head hurts a lot dealing with him. But, did you see how Jeff tamed him? Isn’t it amazing? I think he’s good with kids,” implies K excitedly.
I smile, “He is. He grew up with two siblings younger than him so he took care of them,” I explain.
“Did you already meet his family?” K abruptly asks.
I shake my head, “Not yet, Jeff says his parents are so old, and they can’t visit here in the States, so we will visit them in Asia, instead.”
“Oh, that’s nice isn’t it? Maybe I and Nik could join you,” K suggests a wonderful idea.
“I would love that, K. But I am a bit nervous,” I confess to her.
“Nervous about what?” she raises her brows on me.
“His parents are a bit conservative, and I don’t know if they’ll like me, since I am an American,” I look down.
“Of course they are going to like you, you are Avery Anderson for fuck’s sake!” K boosts my moral once again.
“Thank you, K. So I’ll ask Jeff about it and let’s set the date. Maybe you can relay it to Nik,” I say.
“But, is that okay with you?” K asks in a concerned manner.
So my eyes burrow, “Why do you need to ask. Of course, he’s your boyfriend,” I explain.
She clear her throat, “Well, after what happened to Dmi–”
I halt her and butt in, “–K, of course, Nik isn’t him. And I already accepted him long ago for you, since I saw how much he loves you. So don’t worry about it, okay?”
“Thank you, A, that means a lot. Okay, so I’ll tell him in advance so he won’t have any excuse,” then she winks at me.
