Chapter 38: Chapter 38

I frowned at the reaction she showed. I didn't expect this reaction of her. I was expecting that she will give me a fake smile like all her friends did.

"Do you know each other?" Chelsea groaned at us.

"No." I refused.

“By the way, Jane. She's Desiree Margarette Cantala, my cousin.” I nodded without showing any emotion to them.

"You can call her, DM."

I raised my right hand to shake hands. "Nice to meet you, DM."

We shook hands. I can feel her hand was shaking when she accepted mine. It was supposed to be the other way around. I was supposed to be scared and frightened when we meet again.

She removed her hand first. It sneezed out and moved away from me.

"W-where's Grandma and Grandpa, Chels?" she asked yet she was looking at me. I just give her a blank look. I would never show you the Jane you betrayed before.

Desiree ruined our friendship. She was the one who send the videos to my admirer way back the days when we're in our first year highschool. She's the reason why I've been bullied on my past school. She's the reason why I had my trust issues and she's the reason why people looked at me as if I'm one of the worst student because of the scandal posted online. It's all her fault.

I can seem to feel the resentful emotions I've been hankered all my life after what happened. It was long ago but the memories of the past that I've been keeping was still here. And I don't know how to just easily remove that to my system. That it gives me a traumatic past.

I've trusted her for she was my only best friend that time. She was the one I've been with since I am in my first grade. She was with me. Then, in a span of the moment, of all people, she was the one who betrayed me?

Maybe I was young then, but I never lost my mind and I never forgot the things she did to me. And I think, I will never forgive her.

“Jane...” I was back to my reverie when Chelsea patted my arm. "Are you alright?"

"Yes, I'm fine."

"Let's go inside first, it's getting a little hot outside."

"All right."

We entered their house. It was quiet inside. There were portraits hanged and some medal and achievements displayed near the upper part of the red medium-sized wooden chair.

I suddenly felt my phone vibrated. I read the message and it was from Dad. He asked how I am doing. I texted him back, asking Paul to come home.

I don't want to be with Desiree again. Not ever. I'm still mad at her.

I saw an old woman approaching us while Chelsea's cousin was supporting her. Desiree looked at me that made me look away and diverted my gaze to their grandma who happened to give her stares to me.

"Good morning," I greeted.

"Good morning too, hija." She smiled.

I remember grandma Flores to her. I think she's already on her late 70s. She exactly same features as my grandma. I really missed her.

"Eat first," she said. "I'm going to rest again." We just nodded at her and smiled. She already entered the room at the far end while her granddaughter was there supporting her. I smiled as I followed Chelsea's grandma as she went to her room. I even saw Desiree look at me for a moment before she finally entered the room.

“I'll go first, Chels. I already texted dad. I'm really sorry if I was just a quick. ” I apologize for this.

“All right, but you'll eat first, your dad isn't here yet, right? ” Smiling I denied it.

“No Chels, any minute, our driver is here to pick me up. I'll just wait outside. ”

“All right. I will just go with you outside.” I nodded and we immediately wait on their main gate.

“Are you sure they're already close?” Chelsea asked again, pertaining to our driver.

" Yes. By the way, thank you for your advice."

“ It's nothing,” she replied with a smile. “ I forgot to give you something!”

"Huh?"

"Just wait here, I'll just take something to the kitchen."

I could no longer answer as she hurriedly ran to their kitchen. I just shook my head while laughing and looked at my phone to see if our driver had a text to pick me up. He said he is close.

I suddenly look at my back when I felt someone beside me. Desiree was standing there, wearing a peach above the knee dress. It was simple and suites her angelic face but not when you knew what she can do behind your back.

"Don't you feel that I don't want to see you?" I asked. I arched my brow to her.

"I'm sorry, Jane." she mumbled with her pleaded eyes. This was the expression she always used whenever she did something wrong to me, and I always forgave her because I found it cute before, but now, I don't know.

“What you did were already done. Your sorry will not be rewarded either.”

"It's never too late to say sorry." she mumbled.

“Oh, shut up, Desiree! The damage has been done and you will never manage to fixed that!”

I felt my cheeks were fuming red as I shouted at her. She was shocked and did not expected it that she didn't manage to utter a word. I saw Chelsea coming her way on our direction. She was carrying a plastic on her hand.

"Jane, Desiree, what's going on here?"

"Nothing couz," replied her cousin while looking at me. The beast was already unleashed inside of me. I need to calm myself. I suddenly heard a car stopped in front of the gate. It was indeed our car.

"I'll go first, Chelsea." She was looking at me with worry on her face but she immediately smiled. She gave me that plastic she was holding.

"Take care."

“Thank you. Have a nice day. ” I nodded before turning away from them and getting into our car. The moment I went inside, I heaved a sigh.

"How's your day, my daughter?" I sat up straight when I heard dad's voice. I looked ahead and saw him sitting on the passenger seat.

"It's fine, daddy."

"Good to hear that." he replied. I was hesitant to open up with him but I need to asked this.

“Ahm, dad? Are we still going to U.S. for a vacation? ” I asked.

"Yes?" he mumbled and looked at me as the car maneuvered. I give him a sly smile.

"Let's have a vacation then."
