Chapter 46: Chapter 46

CHAPTER 46: THE PAINFUL MOMENT

Leonard was about to enter Alyssa’s room when someone called on his cellphone, so he didn’t enter first and answer the call. “Hello,”

The man on the other line told him something. It was his trusted bodyguard, Joey. “Okay, Joey, thanks for the info.” And he immediately dropped the call.

He searched in his contact list and was about to call her ex-girlfriend (Elena) when suddenly his phone rang and coincidentally it’s Elena, so he answered it immediately. “Hello, why did you call?” he asked her, pretending that he didn’t know the reason when in fact, he already had a clue why it called him. He just wanted to know if his ex-girlfriend will tell the truth.

“Leonard, can we talk in person? I have a confession to you.” She begged.

“Whatever it is, tell me here on the phone. Don’t you worry, I will listen to everything you will say?” Leonard said to her coldly.

“I-I’m sorry Leonard, I think I am the reason your wife is in an accident right now, boohoo, boohoo, boohoo…!!! I am so sorry, I truly am.”

“I- I knew it was hard for you to trust me, but believe me, I tried to help her!!! I am not the one who hit her in a car. Please, give me a chance to make things right. Even only just now, please. I’m willing to cooperate with the police. Please don’t hate me. Boohoo…!!!” Elena explained to Leonard.

“Okay, I will give you one more chance if you’re willing to coordinate with the police and tell everything.” He said and dropped the call.

He immediately entered Alyssa’s room. Exactly, as he entered the room, Alyssa was awake. He immediately approached her. “Alyssa, how are you feeling?” he asked.

“The woman, where is the woman?” Alyssa asked, still weak.

Leonard wonders who it refers to, “What do you mean, woman? There’s no other woman here. It’s only you and us.” He said.

“The woman, the one who helps me, calls the ambulance. Where is she? I wanted to thank her.”

Leonard seemed already know who Alyssa was referring to. Now he’s convinced that Elena is telling the truth. During their time dating, even though it's a very irrational and super spoiled brat, still, he knew in himself that his ex-girlfriend won’t be able to kill someone. He believes her, but he pretended not to because he doesn’t want Elena will use it again to take advantage of him. “Don’t worry about her, you’ll meet her soon,” Leonard responded.

“My baby, how’s my baby?” Alyssa asked. Leonard and James stared at each other.

“Leonard, why are you not answering?” Alyssa asked, wondering.

Leonard still didn’t utter any words at all. James suddenly stands up. “Hm, Leonard, I think I need to get out first. You need to talk in-depth privately.” James said. Leonard answered with a nod.

James tapped Leonard’s shoulder and then went outside of the room. Leonard approached Alyssa. He sat on the bed next to her and held her hand. He stared at her. “Alyssa, I have something to tell you. Promise me that you won’t get surprised.” He said in a low tone.

Alyssa confused. “What do you mean by that? Why would you say that? I can feel that it’s not good news. Am I right? Tell me, Leonard, tell me…, boohoo, boohoo…,” she asked him sequentially as she cried.

“I’m sorry, Alyssa, but he, gone. Our baby was gone.” Leonard responds.

“No, no, no…!!! It’s not genuine, right? It’s a prank, right?” Alyssa holds the coat of Leonard with her both hands as she was waiting for Leonard’s answer.

Leonard shook his head and said, “It’s not a lie, Alyssa, it’s the truth. I’m so sorry.”

Alyssa could not believe the truth. She could do nothing but cry. “No…!!! Boohoo, boohoo, boohoo…, my baby…!!! My baby, gone!!! Boohoo…!!!”

Leonard felt sorry for his wife. He was feeling as if a needle had pierced his heart as he watches his grieving wife. He hugged her so tight while he couldn’t stop himself from shedding tears as well.

“Boohoo, boohoo, boohoo…!!! My poor baby!!!” Alyssa uttered.

He caressed his wife’s back. “It’s enough, Alyssa, please, stop crying. I’m begging you. We must be strong Alyssa.” He said to his wife.

Alyssa’s room door opened. They both turned around, and standing in front of them was Alyssa’s grandmother with Ms. Belinda. Leonard can see the sadness and concern for her beloved granddaughter on her face. Leonard stands up from where he sits.

When Alyssa saw her grandmother, she cried even more like a child who had been robbed of candy. “Grandma…!!! Boohoo…!!! My baby, gone!!!”

Alyssa’s grandmother, who was so worried, immediately approached her granddaughter and hugged her tightly. “It’s okay, my granddaughter. Cry as much as you can until your tears dry out and the pain you felt inside lessens.” Alyssa’s grandmother said as she tapped Alyssa’s back.

“Boohoo…!!! Grandma, I no longer know what to do! It was as if I had stabbed repeatedly! It’s so painful, grandma, very unbearable! I can’t take it anymore! Boohoo…!!!”

Leonard couldn’t bear to see his wife crying, so he went out of the room and gave Alyssa and her grandma a time with each other.

He walks to the door, opened it, and went out. James, who was sitting while waiting for Leonard, stood up when he saw Leonard come out of the room. “How’s she?” James asked Leonard worriedly.

Leonard’s facial expression suddenly changes into deep sorrow. He that was arrogant and firm cannot hide the pain he felt anymore from his best friend. “Bro, what will I do? My wife can’t accept the fact that our baby, gone. How can I endure all this pain when all I see is her crying unceasingly? It hurts a lot to me, Bro. It’s three times painful to me!” Leonard confesses the sadness he felt simultaneously sitting down on the beach and covers his face with both hands.

James sat beside Leonard and tapped Leonard’s back. “Don’t worry, bro, time will heal everything? Just think that maybe God has another good plan for you two.” James console Leonard.

Leonard removes his two hands that covered his face and looks at his friend with a sorrowful look. “I hope so, James. I hope everything you said is right. If not, I don’t know what to do anymore.”

“It will, bro, trust me.” James convinced Leonard.

“Thanks, bro,” he said.

James replied with a smile to Leonard. James looked at his wristwatch and suddenly stood up in his seat. “Hm, bro, I need to leave. I still have work to take care of. I wanted to invite you to have leisure time just like the old times. But I’m at the wrong time. Maybe next time, when everything is already fine and Bro, if you need me, call me, okay? I have to go.” At once patted the shoulder of Leonard.

“Okay, I will. Next time let’s have some leisure time, just like in the old days. Thanks and take care,” Leonard responded to his best friend.

James nodded to Leonard and left the hospital.
