Chapter 37: Chapter 37

CHAPTER 37: ETHAN EAVESDROP

Ethan immediately went upstairs to go to his older brother’s room. An hour had passed, but his older brother hadn’t come down to the room yet. He felt so sorry for his wife that had been waiting in the living room.

She is pregnant and can be irritated easily, so it shouldn’t have been waiting there for too long for him. Even he was upset with his older brother. For him, it’s very selfish. His older brother wanted Alyssa will always be the one to understand him in everything.

Sometimes, Ethan wishes for heaven that he would have been Alyssa’s husband so that she would not suffer and be hurt, but fate seems very cruel to him and Alyssa. For him, it was as if Alyssa was being used to being introduced by heaven to make his life miserable. Yes, it is true; his life has been miserable since he met Alyssa and loved her. What is Ethan used to think that just a pity, now it’s more than that? Especially when his older brother got Alyssa pregnant. He still forced himself to accept their fate that they did not mean to be with each other. But he is hurting when he sees his older brother taking her for granted and taking advantage of her goodness.

Ethan was finally outside his older brother’s room, and he noticed the door was open. He did not hesitate to enter. Unexpectedly, he heard his older brother talking to someone on the cellphone.

He stared at his brother, who turned his back. It seemed anxious and sweaty profusely. He was curious about who his older brother was talking to, why it was so tense. He put his right ear a little closer to hear what his older brother and the person on the other line were talking all about.

He can’t believe he was doing it. It wasn’t his habit to eavesdrop on others’ conversations still; he did it for the sake of Alyssa. He has this feeling that something is related to her.

“Shall I explain to you again and again? I know I’m at fault, but you can’t be mad at me for accompanying her. I’m the father of the child, and I must be with her even just for today; remember, she’s my legal wife after all!” (The person on the other line speaking…,) “Please don’t scare me into having an abortion just because of your pointless accusation!” (The person on the other line answered…,) “Okay, okay, I’ll be there just give me a minute, happy now?” his older brother said.

Ethan was already clinging with anger at what he heard. He didn’t think his older brother could make Alyssa hope for nothing. Ethan felt that his older brother was already serious with Alyssa. That it changes for the baby’s sake and that he finally accepted Alyssa into his life. Still, he was wrong with his assumption because his older brother was twisting the woman he loved so much in his palm.

He clenches his two hands in rage. It’s like he wants to strangle him and punch his brother in the face until it destroys him. Despite that, he restrains himself. He thinks of Alyssa.

He doesn’t want her to be hurt again if she will find out the truth that his older brother is just fooling her. Not now, especially in her situation. He calmed himself first before interrupting their conversation.

“Ahem, Ahem,”

Leonard stopped talking on his cellphone, shaking, as it heard him clear his throat. Then it slowly turned to him with a guilty face and was sweating even more. “How long have you been here? Did you hear everything?” his brother stuttered as it asked.

“You’re right, and I heard everything! I think it would be best if I’ll be the one to accompany her today, and you go to that woman. Don’t worry, I won’t tell her what I heard today, but that doesn’t mean I’m not mad at you! I’m just holding back. I hope you decide soon before everyone gets caught.” Ethan responded to his brother as he suppressed his anger towards him and turned his back to him.

“Ethan,” his brother called him. It forced him to turn around again, still holding back.

“Thank you,” his older brother said.

“Don’t thank me because I’m not doing this for you. I did this for Alyssa!” Ethan said, simultaneously walking out of the room.

Ethan got out of his older brother’s room, but he entered his room first instead of going down the stairs. As he entered his room, he galloped to his bathroom, and there Ethan poured out the anger his chest felt. He had been suppressing earlier.

He punched the glass attached to his bathroom until he completely crushed it while his right hand soaked with so much blood as he used it to hit the mirror. He also accompanied it with a loud shout to ease the anger he had long harbored.

His room is the only place he could think of, for now, to express the anger he felt so that Alyssa won’t hear him, thanks to his soundproof room. When the anger he felt gradually subsided, he quickly washed his right hands full of blood and treated it.

After he treated it, he immediately covered it with a bandage so as not to be infected. When it already covered his hand with applications, he carefully picked up the large chunks that he scattered on the bathroom, and then he wiped the fine art of the broken glass.

He quickly threw it in the trash and immediately dressed in new clothes to accompany her waiting sister-in-law. As usual, he only wore a blue polo shirt with a plain design. Not with those fancy executive suits. He is a person who prefers simple things.

But even if his attire is simple, it still looks elegant. His handsome face nailed it, which paired with his white skin tone and smooth skin.

Ethan was ready, so he immediately left his room to go to the living room. Ethan took a big step to reach the living room directly. He knew it bore Alyssa to wait. He finally got to the living room, but he was suddenly nervous when he no longer saw Alyssa in the living room. Ethan thinks, what if it followed him into the room without him being aware and she found out the truth and then it runs away? What is he going to do? And because he was afraid that this was likely to happen, he shouts out loud as he uttered his name. “Alyssa!”
