CHAPTER 36: MY CHECK-UP

I had been pregnant for five months already and today is my schedule again for a check-up, but for me, today is special because today is the day of my ultrasound, so it means this is the day I will know the gender of my baby. I woke up early, immediately took a shower, dressed up, and ate very quickly so that we could leave early.

I am very excited to go to the clinic already. If only I could fly to the hospital, I would, but I'm not a wonder woman, so it's impossible for me to do it, and do you know what else excites me more? It's because today, my husband will accompany me. Usually, when I went to the clinic, his younger brother Ethan was always with me because my husband was always busy in the company, but I still understand him. That's why when he offered to come with me today, I jump for joy only onto my mind for the reason that he wants to know the gender of our baby personally.

He even took a leave of absence just for this moment and rescheduled all his meetings and transactions just for today, and with that, I was thrilled when I found out. It's amusing to feel that even your husband is excited to know the baby's gender. Well, it's not just the two of us who are enthusiastic about it, also his family and grandma except for his witch auntie and its family. That did nothing but contradict me.

I'm wearing a cobalt blue twist detail maternity dress that cut up to the knee. It suits me well that made me look gorgeous even with a baby bump. Of course, I purposely dress so well today to impress him. I am sitting on the couch while waiting for him excitedly.

We were both ready to leave earlier, but he told me to go down first because a vital person called on his cellphone. I've been waiting for him for almost an hour. Still, he doesn't come out of the room. I thought that maybe it's because his conversation with his cellphone has not yet ended.

I've changed my position five times already as I sit. It's because boredom strikes me. Before, I was patient. I don't care if I wait a whole day. But now that I'm pregnant, my mood swings.

I decided to get up from my seat to go back to the room. I couldn't wait any longer. I want my husband to come down here in the living room right now.

I don't want us to be late on our first day together to the clinic. It is the most awaited moment for me. I was about to walk upstairs when I saw Ethan walking down the stairs, so I waited for him first to ask if he happens to see my husband about to go out in the room.

I didn't take away my gaze from him as he walked down the stairs so that I won't forget what I'm going to ask him. I've been a bit forgetful these few months, maybe it's because of my pregnancy. As he approached me, I noticed that his forehead has furrowed. For sure, he wonders why I haven't left until now because most of the time when he was my companion, we go to my doctor so early, so that even if it's not my turn yet if the others are haven't come yet, I'll be the first to be accommodated by the doctor.

I was about to open my mouth to ask him when he preceded me, so instead of asking him, he asked me first. "Why are you still here? What I knew was that your schedule is almost near? Where is big brother?" he asked, wondering.

"I would have to ask you if you saw him coming out of the room, but you asked me first. I've been waiting for him here in the living room for almost an hour. We would have gone down together, but someone called on his cellphone. He said it was an important person; that's why he sent me down here first," I explained.

"Can you go back upstairs and ask him for me, please…? It's tiring for me to go back there. You know my situation, right?" I begged Ethan, smiling, as I was using my situation as an excuse.

Ethan sighed and then responded to me. "Okay, wait here. I'll go back there."

I nodded at him with a cute smile in response to him. I knew he would never reject me. As his sister-in-law, I was very spoiled to him. Ethan immediately went back upstairs while I was left standing right here in the living room.

As he steps towards the stair, I can't help but stare at him again.

Suddenly, one by one, I remembered the good things he had done for me. Since from the very beginning up to now. Especially at the time when he found out that I was pregnant. He became warier of me.

He is the one who always fills in my husband's shortcomings. He's more of a father to it than Leonard. That's why I didn't feel sad and didn't give up because of his encouragement to me whenever I felt like giving up to his older brother.

Even though I always ordered him, he never complained and annoyed me. He is such a good man. Sometimes my mind plays, many silly thoughts crossed my mind that maybe my brother-in-law likes me. That's why he's very concerned about me, but I knew in myself that it was unlikely to happen.

He's handsome enough to like someone like me. If I only had a female friend, I would introduce him to her, so I smile as I watched him from a distance, thinking about these useless things.

While I was waiting for the two siblings, I felt hungry again. I thought about going to the kitchen first to find something to eat. It's tough to be pregnant, and you can't help but always get hungry in no time.

I stepped into the kitchen to soothe my craving, and when I reached the kitchen. I immediately opened the refrigerator to look at its content. My eyes twinkled as I saw a lot of food ready in it.

I was even hungrier by what I saw.

There's a chocolate cake which is one of my favorites, and there's also macaroons, salad, Leche flan, and leftover pizza. My smile reached my ears as I watch the food. I immediately picked them up one by one and placed them on the counter table. I took a plate and fork, and I ate it right away as I was standing.
