Chapter 34: Chapter 34
CHAPTER 34: THE TRUTH
Leonard has arrived at their house. This time he has no driver or bodyguards with him. He was in a hurry earlier when he found out that his wife rushed to the hospital, so he decided to drive independently.
He hurried out of the car, and immediately his bodyguards welcomed him. They bowed to him in reverence for his arrival. One of his bodyguards was supposed to take his briefcase, but he gestured at the same time said, "No need, thank you,"
It nodded at him in response. Leonard continued walking until he reached the door of their house. He immediately opened it.
When he entered the house, he was greeted by the aroma of the food cooked. The scent of it was very familiar to him. He smiled at what he smelled.
He didn't even try to find out who was cooking in the kitchen. He already knew who was there. He walked up straight the stairs and stepped on them until he reached their room.
He was eager to see his wife when his heartbeat was so fast. That's why instead of immediately opening the door, he choose to take a pause first and preferred to calm himself. After about a few minutes of standing outside the door, at last, his heart contains a little.
He slowly opened the door and when he had already opened it, his wife, who was fast asleep, appeared in front of him. He approached it carefully not to disturb its sleep. He sat down next to her and slowly moved his right hand towards his wife's hair. As he watches his wife sleep, he suddenly felt pain in his heart.
He knew in himself that his heart hurt not because he felt sorry for her but because Leonard was slowly falling in love with his wife, whom he had previously hated. Yes, he is in love with her, and that's the truth, but he did not know how he would admit it to his wife.
He was afraid that what if it refused to his love? He didn't know what he would do if that would happen.
He is a man with pride. He has not accustomed to being rejected. That's why he is reluctant, to be honest with her.
"When did you just come home from work?" Alyssa asked in a small voice.
He almost jumped on his seat when his wife spoke. He didn't expect it to be awake. Earlier, his wife was sound asleep. Now he felt so ashamed of him touching her hair. He immediately stood up from his seat and pretended to be looking out the window.
Alyssa noticed that her husband seemed embarrassed, so she pretended that she didn't know what he was doing earlier and pretended to ask unnecessary questions. "What time is it?"
Leonard looked at his watch. "It's 6:00 in the evening," he answered. He went back to where he had sat earlier, and then he looked at his wife's eyes worriedly and asked her. "How are you feeling right now?"
Alyssa was embarrassed by his husband's stares. The way he stares today seems new to her. The expression of his eyes is very different today than before. It always used to be furious that it almost seemed like a hungry tiger about to eat her in no time, but now it seemed as if something else meant that she couldn't figure it out.
His stares seemed full of affection to her, but she didn't want to assume. She might get hurt. She turned her gaze away from him so that his deceptive stares would not carry her away, but suddenly she was electrified when unexpectedly, her husband hold her little face and forced her to face him.
She had no choice but to look at him again. It was still staring at him thoughtfully. "Alyssa, I have something to tell you." He said.
Alyssa was suddenly nervous, not out of fear but eagerness for what her husband would say next. "What is it?" she asked him, pretending to be calm.
Leonard was about to continue to speak when suddenly someone knocked on the door. He couldn't continue what he was supposed to say to his wife, so he just sighed and stood up in his seat to open to the one who knocked. Leonard walked towards the door and opened it. When he opened the door, his younger brother Ethan appeared in front of him. It was holding a tray of food.
He noticed Ethan frowned as he opened the door. It didn't seem happy with his arrival. "Oh, you're already home, just when?" he asked, surprised.
"Just now," he responded coldly. He took the tray held by his brother and, at once, closed the bedroom door as his brother blocked it with its hand.
His forehead furrowed. "Anything you want?" he asked his brother in an odd voice as if telling his brother to piss off, but his brother did not seem to budge. "Won't you even let me in?" Ethan asked, smiling.
Even though he didn't want to let it in, he knew his younger brother would insist, so he didn't do anything but clear the doorway for his brother to be able to get in. He turned his back on his brother, and then he walks towards the small table to put down the tray of food he carried on it. "How are you feeling? Do your head still hurt?" Ethan asked Alyssa one question after another.
"It's not hurt anymore, but I felt dizzy," Alyssa confessed to Ethan. His wife's confession has touched Leonard's pride to his brother. As for him, she hardly spoke. His head heats up, and he raises his voice towards his wife. "Why didn't you tell me earlier that you were feeling dizzy? Am I some joke for you?"
Alyssa felt scared because of Leonard's yelling. Ethan noticed that Alyssa seemed frightened of her older brother. He knew that it couldn't be stressful due to her current situation, so he pacifies his older brother. "Bro, please stop it," at once holds his brother's arm.
Leonard took off Ethan's hand from his shoulder. "Can you not interfere with this? It's a fight between my wife and me, and you're out of here!" Leonard's furious response.
"You don't understand, bro; you don't understand how your wife feels because you didn't care at all!" Ethan shouted back to his older brother.
Leonard was annoyed by what his brother said, so he punched it in no time. Ethan fell on the floor with his mouth bleeding. Alyssa screamed in fear and quickly got up and then approached Ethan. "Please, stop itβ¦! Don't fight anymore!" she begged Leonard as she held Ethan.
Leonard suddenly back into himself as he saw his wife crying and his brother bleeding. He felt guilty for what he had done. He approached his brother and pulled his hand to stand. "I'm sorry if I punched you. I'm so sorry. I just got carried away by my emotion." He apologized to his younger brother.
"I'm sorry too if I'm overdoing it, and maybe you need to know the truth." He said to his brother. Then he looked at Alyssa. "Alyssa, I'm so sorry, but I think it's time for him to know the truth." He added.
Alyssa's eyes watered because Ethan was about to confess to Leonard. She thinks that this could be the end of her to him. Which is only just beginning to bloom? She just closed her eyes and clenched her hands.
"What do you mean the truth, Ethan? What truth Ethan? Tell me?" Leonard asked Ethan sequentially.
