CHAPTER 32: SHE ALMOST SPELLS THE TRUTH

Leonard did nothing to stop his younger brother as he watches him exit the room. In the tone of his brother’s speech, he knew that until now that he was still upset with him.

On the other hand, Ethan hurriedly went to the nurse station to settle Alyssa’s bill and to talk to her doctor as per Alyssa’s request.

The truth is, he wasn’t that furious with his older brother. Yes, he admits he got upset, but not to the point that he will resent him. He just did that earlier to pretend as if he was furious to find a chance to get out of the room.

Leonard looked at his wife worriedly. He stretched his right hand to reach the sleeping wife’s hair, and when he got it, he gently strokes it.

As he watches his wife’s pale face, he had realized how much he had fallen short of his obligation as a husband. He also noticed that her body gradually lost weight during their one and a half months of marriage. He is even guiltier to her.

Alyssa woke up because of her husband’s caress on her hair. When her husband’s handsome face appeared in front of her, she was nervous! She was scared. What if he already knew the truth? What will she do? “Calm down, Alyssa. He didn’t know. You have to trust Ethan,” she said to herself.

Leonard noticed that his wife had woken up. He asked her right away. “How are you feeling?”

Alyssa lifted her body to sit.

“Whoa, whoa, whoa, don’t force yourself to stand up. You might stretch out.” Leonard said, concerned.

“I’m okay, and you don’t have to worry about me.” She responded in a weak voice.

“By the way, what happened earlier? Tell me, Are you sick? If it is, what is it? What did the doctor say about your condition?” Leonard asked in succession.

Alyssa was nervous again. She didn’t know what she should answer. Her mind debated whether, to tell the truth, or postpone it because Alyssa was not ready to admit the truth. But she did not want to lie anymore because he was afraid to lie to him.

Once was enough when she lied to her grandma and didn’t want to do it again. She is baffled, but even though her mind was confused, she still decided to tell the truth. Heaven will determine what the outcome will be. All that matters is that she tells the truth.

If the outcome is not good, she will accept it wholeheartedly.

She was ready to answer Leonard’s question, but she took a deep breath first before she could answer. “Hmmm, Leonard, the truth is—…,”

“Ring, ring, ring…!” Leonard’s cellphone rang.

“Hold on, I just answer this first, and after this, let’s continue talking, okay?” Leonard said.

“Okay,” she responded.

Leonard came out of the room to answer the call on his phone. Suddenly a thorn was pulled to her when Leonard exited the room. Alyssa could hardly breathe earlier because she was feeling so nervous. Now, Alyssa still has a chance to prepare what Alyssa is going to say. She waited for Leonard to come back.

After a few minutes of waiting, Leonard returned to the room.

“Sorry about the call. It’s business-related,” Leonard explained.

“It’s okay,” she said.

Alyssa was about to say when Leonard interrupted. “Hmm, Alyssa, I’m sorry, but I think we will continue to talk later. I need to go back to the company. It’s urgent,” he said.

“Oh, okay, see you,” she agreed.

“I’m so sorry,” he said.

Alyssa just nodded in response. Then Leonard immediately left the room.

Leonard clasped his two hands as he was walking towards the elevator. He lied to Alyssa now. It’s not the truth that Leonard is going back to the company. Otherwise, he is going to Elena’s house.

He is hesitant to leave his wife. Especially in her current situation, he has to go to Elena because he knows that it will fly into a rage if he doesn’t go to her right away. He quickened his pace so that he could easily reach the house of his girlfriend. To find out its true purpose.

On the other hand, Ethan was too busy paying Alyssa’s bills and taking care of her papers for her discharge today. He also instructed the nurse to give Alyssa the discharge paper and her prescription.

He was about to leave the hospital when he saw his big brother in a hurry to leave.

He suddenly felt nervous! He had this presumption that maybe his older brother learned the truth and can’t accept it; that is why it left. He called the nurse he had given the papers to, and he retook it. Then he returned to Alyssa’s room.

He hurried to walk back into her room until he reached it. When he opened the door, he saw Alyssa in a dazed.

“Alyssa,” he called her.

“Oh, Ethan, thank goodness your back. I thought you leave already.” Alyssa said as she smiles at him.

“Oh, so it means he doesn’t know yet?” he asked.

“Yeah, but I almost tell him the truth when suddenly his phone rang,” Alyssa explained to Ethan.

“Oh, okay, I think you need be ready now. I have taken care of everything already, and soon a nurse will be here to remove that needle stuck in your hand.

“Huuhh, thank you so much, Ethan.” She said.

Ethan smiled at him and said, “You’re welcome,”

About a few minutes later, the nurse came to remove the needle. Alyssa is pleased because she could finally go home but at the same time sad because of what she found out. Suddenly her face frowned when she thought about it again.

Ethan noticed that sadness suddenly marked on her face. He approached her and held her waist. “You’ve been smiling earlier, but now, why do you suddenly become sad?” he asked, worried.

“I’m afraid, Ethan. I’m sure that in my current situation, I won’t be able to finish school. Lots of possibility running through my mind right now, but as far as I can see, it’s all in favor for your brother.”

Alyssa’s tears fall as she talked.

Ethan hugged Alyssa. “Don’t you worry; I’m always here to help you. I will always believe no matter what happened.” He said with assurance.

“So, is that mean you are going home?” she asked.

“Yes, I am, so you don’t have to worry at all.” He said.

Alyssa’s tears flowed even more because of joy. Ethan is finally coming home. He is the only person related to her husband that she can tell and trust, and because of the gratitude she feels, she responded to Ethan’s hug. “Thank you so much for always being here with me.” She cried.

“Of course, please stop crying already, okay? It’s not good for the baby if you keep being sad.” He said.

Alyssa nodded in response, and then they left in the hospital.
