Chapter 14: Chapter 14
CHAPTER 14: THE CALL
Alyssa got to the garden, and there she saw her husband talking on the phone. She didn't want to disturb her husband, so she carefully approached him when she accidentally heard her husband's conversation on the phone.
"Babe, you know that I love you right, so will you please trust me? Whoever telling you that I don't love you anymore, well she is wrong because until now you are still making my heart beat so fast, and don't worry, I'll take care of her."
She suddenly became cold. It was as if cold water has poured on her because of what her husband had said. That came to the point that she could not move her body.
As if it was numb at the same time, her heart seemed to stop beating. Then, her tears dripped. Her tears wake her up to the fact that she had to escape from where she was positioned. To stay away from the man who had hurt her heart.
She runs away from her husband. She runs without direction, allows her feet to decide where it would take her. Until she saw a small corner when there was no one else but her, so there she cried.
*****
The call on his cellphone ended. He decided to go back to the living room. When he reached the living room, his grandfather was the only one he found. He wondered why his wife was not with his grandpa when he left; they were talking. "Grandpa, where is Alyssa?" he asked him.
His grandfather wondered why his grandson was asking where his wife was when he knew she followed him earlier, so he answered it with a question. "Haven't you met there in the garden? Didn't she follow you earlier?"
"I don't know, grandpa. I had no idea. Hmmm, grandpa, I think I need to go back to the garden first. Maybe our directions were just opposite." He said to his grandfather.
Then his grandfather replied with a nod.
Leonard leaves his grandfather in the living room to go back to the garden to find his wife. As he neared there, he saw his wife come out in a small corner. He was wondering what his wife is doing there, so he approached her.
Alyssa saw her husband coming in her direction. She quickly wiped away her tears and arranged her hair.
"What are you doing there? Aren't you afraid that there might be a snake living there, and you might get bitten?" Leonard asked Alyssa.
"Oh, I-I saw a cat there, so I took a look," she lied to his husband.
"Oh, a cat, how come there was a cat there when we don't have a cat pet because grandpa is allergic?" Leonard wondered.
"Hmmm, m-maybe it's just a stray cat that got in here," Alyssa answered.
"Oh, I see, let's go," Leonard said.
He held out the hand of his wife. When he noticed that her eyes were red, that's why he asked her, "Wait, and why are your eyes red?"
Alyssa didn't say a word. She didn't know what she would say, so she just bowed, which her husband further astonished. "Hmmm, does it mean you're also allergic to the cat?" Leonard asked again.
She came up with an idea because of what her husband said. "Oh, yeah, I-I'm allergic to cats, but I like them," she answered.
"Oh, okay," Leonard agreed. Then they entered the house.
When they entered the house, Leonard brought Alyssa to his room. It is the room he used to use when they were young. Every time they visited there.
As soon as they entered the room, Alyssa was amazed at its size and its antiques that seem to be well reserved and the most captive to her eyes was a large painting that glued to the opposite side of the bed with a picture of a big wave crashing on the beach with two lovers holding their hands while staring on the crashing waves that touch their feet.
Alyssa thought, what would it feel like if his husband loves him? Will they be like the one in the painting, happily holding hands? What if she dreams of having the one she loves? Can it be called greed, and will the day come that he will love her too?
"Wake up, Alyssa; you know it will never happen! Not even in your dream!" she said to herself.
She was fascinated by the painting that she almost touched when her husband shouted. "Don't you ever dare touch that painting!"
Alyssa was shocked. She stopped what she was about to do and told her husband, "Sorry,"
"Sorry? Is that all you can always say? Whenever you touched the belonging of other people? Well, I'll tell you the truth that not everything goes through for just saying sorry!" Leonard responds angrily.
She was hit again by the words of her husband. Her tears fall again. When Leonard saw her tears dripping, he told her, "I'm sorry if I shouted at you. Would you please stop crying? Grandpa might see you and might say again that I'm abusing you."
She didn't want her husband to get angrier, so she nodded at him while wiping away her tears. She wondered why her husband brought her to the room, so she asked him, "Whose room it is? Why did we enter here?"
"Isn't it obvious? We will sleep here tonight." Her husband answered.
Alyssa was irritated by the answer of her husband, but she didn't object and just nodded. She remembered that she didn't bring any clothes at all. She asked him again, "Hmm, Can I have a request?"
"What?" Leonard asked.
"Can I go home first to get clothes?" she added.
"No need, I'll call Ethan so he can bring it here. He will come here later anyway," Leonard said.
She was a little embarrassed that Ethan will probably bring what she could wear, but she just agreed so that her husband won't get mad again.
"Ring, ring, ringβ¦!" the phone of his husband rang again.
Then he left the room without even saying a word to her. Alyssa sighs as she lay down on the bed, and because she was tired from the trip and crying, she did not realize that she falls asleep.
