Chapter 82: Chapter 82
Ray didn't know that the second option was more correct.
Early that morning, Alexa was asleep when her phone rang. With a very sleepy face like a zombie, she cursed and received a call that disturbed her sleep. Of course, she didn't see who called her, and before she even heard the person speak, the call was dead.
Turned out her phone ran out of battery.
Since she was still sleepy, she didn't think about it and fell asleep again until the next morning. When she woke up and saw that her phone was off, she immediately looked for a charging cable, then rushed forward to open the curtains. The bright morning light immediately illuminated the entire room. It was just that this glare failed to illuminate the space in her heart that was still full of darkness.
It was true, after she thought about it more than a thousand times, there was no other reason than jealousy.
She admitted it.
Remembering the words about Ray was going to marry another woman, her heart turned cold. Something in her heart seemed to be torn in two, unable to be put back together with any effort. This made her feel mad, she felt like killing Ray that very second.
She no longer thought about it and opened the front door.
As soon as the door opened, he saw a man sitting on her veranda, who immediately stood up when he heard the door open.
"Alexa, I ..."
As if cold water had poured on her head, she shivered, instinctively closing the door, slamming it right in front of the man. The man who had torn apart her feelings all night long, made her so tired that she just fell asleep while questioning her own sanity.
... Ray Sanders.
Even when she arrived home, Jane gave her a provocation text,
[If you don't want to investigate him again, how about confessing? Have you ever thought that Ray really forgot about you? It's been five years. And you're drunk. He could be drunk too, right?]
The text was effective in making her fingers weak. So what if Ray actually forgot because he was drunk?
A knock on the door brought her back to reality, Ray's voice was heard, "Alexa, I know you are angry. Please listen to my explanation."
Alexa gripped the doorknob tightly with complex feelings.
Ray said again, "I really don't know if you sent a text. I didn't ignore you on purpose."
Bullshit!
Alexa laughed bitterly. This rotten man didn't know that she had caught him. In fact, he had called Samuel that afternoon, and deliberately ignored her message.
"I left my phone and went out for something. Trust me."
Alexa sneered. "Yeah, it's a matter of meeting your fiancé, isn't it?"
There was no sound for a moment, before Ray said again, "Fiancé? My fiancé is you."
"God knows which mouth can't be trusted." Alexa hit the door body hard.
Ray, "..."
This silence lasted a bit longer than before. Aexa continued to wait and guess why Ray was silent. Could it be that he couldn't dodge it?
Unfortunately, there was a rapid knock on the door. "Lexa, you can't accuse me without reason. It's not true!"
"What's not true?" Alexa was stubborn.
"I did go out to meet someone, but it wasn't my fiancé."
"Oh, yes, that's right. Not your fiancé, but your future wife, right?"
This was getting confusing. Firstly, Alexa could guess that he had gone out to meet someone. Second, she had a wild thought that the person he met was his future wife.
Was she taking him so easily?
Ray sighed. "Be honest with me, Lexa. Why did you come up with that speculation?"
Still with an annoyed face, Alexa hit the door again, as if she hit Ray directly in the face. "What do you care how I found out? Most importantly, I know you were cheating behind my back and deliberately ignoring my texts. You were testing me, weren't you?"
"Testing you? Why should I test you?" Ray's voice outside sounded confused. "Wait a minute, did you see me with Hailey at the hospital?"
Hearing this question, her heart felt painful, as if it had been cut in two. She clearly remembered what Samuel said at the restaurant yesterday and it turned out that the man was right that Ray was accompanying Hailey.
"Oh, so you admitted that you really went with your fiancé?" Alexa quipped.
"Alexa, we have nothing to do with each other." Ray knocked on the door again. "Open this door first and I'll explain it to you, okay?"
Aexa didn't give any answer. She snorted coldly.
"Come on, babe. It's so cold outside and I've been here since all night."
"So it's my fault now?" Alexa asked annoyed. "If you're cold then go! I don't want to see your face now!"
Outside the door, Ray began to feel frustrated with her misunderstanding. He still hadn't understood what they were really arguing about, was it because he didn't reply to her texts that she speculated carelessly or did she really see him at the hospital with Hailey and felt annoyed?
Ray thought again, this didn't feel like ordinary irritation.
He knocked on the door again, before saying quietly, "Alexa, are you jealous?"
Alexa choked. "Who's jealous?!"
The higher the tone, the more nervous the vibrations appear. She frowned painfully at this. She was jealous and she realized that feeling when Jane slapped her many times in the face, now there was no need for Ray to slap her in the face too!
After a while there was no response from outside, the doorknob was shaken roughly and the door body trembled behind it. "Alexa, open the door, quick!"
Alexa clucked, holding the door that might fall any second.
"You can ask anything, I will answer honestly," Ray said persuasively.
Alexa, "There's nothing to ask! Go the hell away! I don't want to see your face!"
Seeing his face would only make her falter once more. If she got to that point, Jane would probably laugh her to death that what she said was true; that Alexa had been trapped in this misleading circle.
Of course, this won't work.
Alexa was not a cunning person, before five years ago, she was just an innocent and naive girl. She felt that she was too holy, so doing evil was not something that suited her.
Ray insisted. "I'll leave after explaining. If you don't open this door, I'll wait until you finally want to hear. I'll be ready for you."
This was even worse.
Now it was not a holiday, there was still time to take Fillo from the playground and she also had to go to work. With Ray insisting on waiting for her outside, she would have no room to escape. Using the back door would also lead her to meet him too.
Taking a breath, Alexa thought for a moment. Until finally she made the decision to open the door. As soon as the creak was heard, Ray took a step back, waiting for her in front obediently.
Alexa didn't look at him at all. "Say what you want to say, after that you have to leave."
Ray's lips curved into a faint smile. He reached out to push Alexa's shoulder. Went inside and closed the door behind him.
Alexa stepped back as Ray stepped forward.
"Lexa, I'm sorry." Ray took her hand, bringing her closer. "I didn't mean to upset you. Do you forgive me?"
Alexa let go of the grip, still not looking at him. She turned around and sat on the couch, giving a cold shoulder.
Ray slipped into a seat next to her. "Okay, I'll explain honestly. That afternoon I did go to see Hailey, but we just met and didn't do anything. I left my phone at the office, so I didn't know you sent a message."
That cold shoulder was all Ray could see, but his gaze remained softened. Because he knew this was his fault too, he didn't expect her to forgive him easily, he had no problem accepting one small punishment.
His hand touched her shoulder, squeezing it slightly. "You believe me now?"
After a moment of silence, Alexa said, "No!"
Not that easy!
... to be continued ...
