Chapter 28: Chapter 28
Since Ray had no more words to say to Alexa, he left the room. Hailey was at the nurse's desk with a worried face asking where he was.
"Hailey?"
Hailey's head turned quickly. As soon as she saw him, she immediately rushed to hug him. "What happened? Some people said you went to the health center."
Ray stroked her shoulder gently. "You were too worried to run here? You should have heard someone else's explanation."
Hailey just pouted.
"There was a little boy who had stomach cramps and was in a lot of pain, so I helped him bring him here." He explained.
She pulled him out of the health center. "Why should you be the one to help him? Isn't there anyone else who can do it?"
They took the elevator together to return to the room. Actually, it wasn't that late at night, but he had lost his energy after feeling too tense, so he just wanted to rest. In the elevator there were only the two of them.
Ray sighed. "It doesn't matter whether I or someone else helps him. But that kid had a stomach ache right after eating the dish I prepared for everyone, so I feel responsible for that."
"Ray, it's his fault for being too greedy." Hailey chuckled. "Do you perhaps know that kid?"
Without much thought, he answered, "No. I don't know him."
She also didn't pay any more attention after hearing that and started showing her anxiety again. "Sorry, I shouldn't have left you like that."
"You have a reason?"
Her thin, slender fingers threaded through his large, warm fingers, saying while looking down, "Someone has threatened me."
There was a moment's pause as he digested the words. He then held her shoulder.
"What? Who threatened you? What did they say to you? Tell me!" He asked impatiently.
Really! Hailey didn't know where to start. This incident might turn out badly if she took the wrong step. Not only would she lose Ray, he would even waste the five years of opportunity she had been fighting for.
Actually, being Ray's girlfriend wasn't just her wish, but Ray was a promising rich man. Marrying a man like that will make her life easier in the future. She no longer needs to work hard as a model and live a life without thinking about money.
Who doesn't want to hold this golden thigh?
But ... after this threat, she started to worry, she was afraid that someone might know about her plan.
It's been a long time since she had a lover other than Ray out there. She admited she couldn't get enough of one man. Before this she managed to hide her secret man, now how could someone find a photo of her kissing another man and use it to threaten her?
She finally looked at him. "As you know, my job makes me get to know many friends in the profession on various occasions. That makes people see many gaps."
He didn't answer, waiting for her to continue.
"Because of this, someone took advantage of my closeness to my co-worker, then took a photo of the two of us and used it to threaten me." She took a deep breath. "In my world of work, photos cannot always be used as accurate evidence. Professional people can pick holes where the photo looks wrong in the eyes of others, and anyone can speculate as they like about it."
The elevator opened and they walked back in, holding each other's hands.
"What I mean is that this person will use that photo to destroy our relationship," she continued slowly. "I've tried to contact them to resolve this problem, but they doesn't want to hear my offer at all. This could damage my reputation."
"Hailey—"
"Ray, if in the future someone gave you a photo of me with someone else that wasn't necessarily true, would you immediately believe it?" She interrupted him.
Regarding this issue, he had discussed it with her for a long time. About how she should quit her modeling job and start her own company, but she never wanted to listen to her.
Hailey said that modeling was the easiest job she ever had. She just has to pose in front of the camera and will earn money. If she is a businessman, she will keep thinking about having a new breakthrough in her business and she is not suitable for that.
Now, if something like this happens, what should he do?
To be honest, he didn't want her to get close to men too easily, as if they had a close relationship.
This doesn't make sense.
Ray could only say coldly, "Give me the threatner's number, I'll take care of it."
Hailey panicked a bit. "But this person is so difficult to deal with."
Ray, "Difficult or not, let me finish them for you. You didn't want to listen to me when I told you to quit that job, but now what I feared has happened, right?"
Hailey, "I'm not telling you for this!"
"So?"
His expression was completely dark, as if there was an abyss in front of his feet that she didn't dare to move forward. They were still in front of their room door, facing each other.
She held his arm carefully and began to soften, "I just want you to trust me. Because if the fake photo gets into your hands, I'm afraid you will be angry with me. So I told you earlier."
"You really don't want me to solve this problem?" he asked coldly.
"T-That's not what I mean. That person didn't send me the photo, so I don't know if it really exists or not. So I thought to see how far they would go." She was nervous and didn't dare to meet his eyes at all.
He didn't answer immediately, only after she showed a very sad expression did he relent.
"Fine! Just if they start going too far, I'll take care of them."
"I didn't betray you, babe. Trust me."
Ray sighed. "I trust you."
The two of them didn't know that behind a wall niche near their room, someone who was listening to this conversation, immediately snorted in disdain with a sneer,
'I didn't betray you. My ass!'
... to be continued ...
