Chapter 23: Chapter 23

"Pregnant without a husband? Are we talking about the same person?"

Ray put the report document regarding Alexa's background on his desk, his facial expression looked complicated. He looked at his personal driver and informant questioningly.

Adam answered straightforwardly, "That is complete data about Mrs. Alexa Greisy."

"You're careless!"

"I don't dare, Mr. Sanders. That's all the data I got from the investigation." Adam tried to convince him. "Mrs. Greisy was kicked out of her house when she was still a student and that was because she was pregnant out of wedlock."

Ray still in disbelief, took the data back to look. "Her husband? Ah—I mean, who is her ex-husband?"

Before Adam answered, Ray found no validation about Alexa's marriage, which means she never married.

"Mrs. Greisy is not married," said Adam afterwards.

How could this happen?

But then he remembered that she had said that she was traumatized by men. Is it possible that her hatred of men is due to this reason?

She is currently 26 years old, while Fillo is still 4 years old—meaning she was pregnant at a very young age and indeed where she was in second year of university.

When she was 21 years old ..................

He cleared his throat. "Where do her parents live currently? Have they ever visited her?"

Adam, "Her family has cut ties since Mrs. Greisy became pregnant, since then there has been no relationship between them. And she changed her name."

"What is her real name?"

"Her first name is Alexandria, but I forget her last name. Should I find out for you?"

Ray waved his hand, replying it wasn't necessary.

That was sad, he couldn't believe this.

When a woman is pregnant because of a man's evil desires, that's when her mentality will become weak. And the family that was supposed to be her protector, instead threw her onto the streets cruelly.

He can imagine Alexa's situation on that unfortunate day; devastated, sad, scared and panicked. It's just that, when he saw the woman standing straight at this moment, he didn't dare to look at her with a pitying face.

Adam then explained more, about how at that time only Jane Fileigh was willing to help her fight difficulties. She was forced not to continue her studies and chose to work part-time at a bakery during pregnancy. After she gave birth, she left Fillo for a year at the Mother and Child Foundation, while she took on many jobs at once to survive.

Until finally, two years later, she was finally able to buy their small house—which he taunted was too simple for a little boy to grow up in.

Remembering that, he felt very guilty.

But he thought it was an honest comment. Fillo is growing, he deserves a better place with a nice environment. He really wanted to offer her some of his unused houses in some places, but he didn't know how to avoid getting the wrong idea.

He leaned back in the chair and shooed Adam away.

Samuel, who had been a loyal listener all this time, impudently sat down at the table and asked, "Why do you care so much about her? Don't tell me you think that child is yours?"

Ray was silent, Samuel guessed correctly.

"There are many coincidences in this world, Ray. If you don't think you have impregnated that woman in the past, then she is not your child. Worrying about empty things is useless. Which woman knows that the father of her child is a handsome and rich man, but don't immediately look for a lawyer to take care of her human rights? You don't have to feel burdened by this. Trust me."

Everything Samuel said made sense. But he didn't know why he was burdening his mind with this problem. Is it just because he thinks Fillo looks like him and feels the child is like his own?

Alexa didn't even say it was his child, why did he feel responsible?

"I just ..." Ray trailed off, not knowing what to say.

"Unless that woman is using this to make you obey. She feels that the two of you have similarities and she is playing a strategy to demand justice."

"That's not possible."

"What's impossible?"

There were too many strange things, his head hurt.

"Sam, I really just feel sorry. She didn't blackmail me over this." Ray massaged the bridge of his nose.

"I'll let you today, but I'll also help you investigate."

Ray, "..."

Sam, "In modern times, you can do a DNA test or whatever. Then you'll know the truth."

The suggestion made perfect sense.

"If it's proven that he's your son, I don't know what else to do." Samuel shook his head. "Remember, Ray, I don't want you to play with Hailey's love to you. I consider her like my own sister."

Ray sighed. "Have I hurt her all this time?"

Samuel didn't comment, because he knew how gentle and caring Ray was towards Hailey while they were dating.

He chuckled. "You're just ... too kind, Ray. Don't let that woman misinterpret your kindness."

"Impossible." Ray remembered that Alexa didn't even like him that much, so that was impossible. "I'm not her type."

"Woah! Even you know how it feels to be rejected, huh?"

"I've been rejected a few times."

"A person as handsome as you was rejected?"

Ray rolled his eyes. Samuel said he was handsome not as a compliment, but deliberately to emphasize sarcasm, so he wouldn't answer it.

Samuel knew that Ray was tired of hearing him ramble on, but he still said, "Tomorrow you're going on vacation with Hailey on a cruise ship, right? Don't mess it up. As for anything else, I'll think about it."

Then the man got up, slightly pushing the documents on the table playfully.

"Sign this. Petra canceled an important meeting because of the damn holiday." Samuel said irritated. "A visit to the newly built club in District Three will be on my behalf."

Ray smiled weakly. "Thanks."

Still can thank you, huh? Samuel grumbled. He went across the table, intending to leave.

But before that, he said freely, "You have to pay me ten times more for working overtime!"

Ray laughed. "I'll send the money now."

"How many?"

"Enough to shut you up for a three months."

This time Samuel smiled crookedly. "Don't forget to rent me some of the best bitches in your nightclub too."

Ray grinned. "Can be arranged."

In the end Samuel actually headed for the door, before closing it he said, "But if you dump Hailey, I'll take her over too, no problem."

Ray's eyes narrowed sharply and he grabbed a roll of paper to throw at Samuel, but it only hit the closed door. He could faintly hear Samuel's satisfied laughter outside.

After the room fell completely silent, he thought carefully about Samuel's proposal.

"DNA test, huh?" he muttered.

It's easy to say, but is he bold enough to carry out tests on other people's children?

... to be continued ...
