Chapter 2: Chapter 2
"Mom?" my voice cracks from the unshed tears.
"Oh my god! Shane! Honey! It's Shane!" my mom's voice sounded tired like she'd been up for a while.
I could hear shuffling going on in the background over the phone. I knew it was my dad trying to make his way to the phone.
"Shane?" my dad asks doubtful. I smile at the sound of his voice. It always soothed me when I felt like the world was caving in.
"Hi, dad. I don't have much time." I say as I wipe a tear from my face, " I just wanted to call and let you guys know I am safe."
"Honey, where are you? Let us come get you." My dad urges over the phone.
I shake my head as if he could see me. "No, it's ok. I promise. If I can, i'll find a way to contact you again soon."
Tix walks over and places a hand on my shoulder letting me know it's time to go. "Hey mom, dad I love you guys. I promise i'll be safe."
"We are going to find you Shane. Don't worry. You're strong and we know that. For now just focus on what you need to do. Talk to you soon, baby." Mom's voice was very calm at this point. It usually meant she was sure of what she was saying.
"We love you too." Dad's voice was the last I heard after the click. I sigh in my chair and hold back any tears that threatened to come down. I hand Tix the phone and get up from my seat. Chase already has the door open for me and I walk straight out.
About another few hours pass as we are all back in the vehicle. I had passed out at some point during the trip and woke up to sun rays beaming in from the window.
"Where are we?" I ask groggy.
"A secret location in the woods. It's our HQ. So, of course we can't tell you until we trust you. No offense. It's a safety measure." Trevor responds. He then exits the vehicle waking everyone else in the process.
"Yay...HQ, fantastic more training and paper work, yippie..." Chase's voice falls flat of excitement.
Drake scoffs, "As if he does paperwork..." I chuckle at his comment. It did seem unlikely for Chase to do paperwork.
Tix and I are the last out of the vehicle when we make our way up the gravel road to the mansion in the woods.
I take in the sight of brick and size of it. "Wow! It's gorgeous!" "You should see it from the inside it's way better!" Tix says excitedly as she pulls me along with her to the door. I hadn't realized how strong she was. Which made me think about how Trevor was so fast at catching my arm before I could push the button on the side of the radio. "Shane?" Tix's voice calls me out of my thoughts. She was turned toward me with her hand on the handle, a few steps inside the door. "You...coming or what?" "Or what." I laugh. She grins and pulls me inside. She closes the door and I get a good view of the hall leading to a lounge area. The hall was decorated with plants and art work. The paint was beige and there was a long carpet leading down the hallway. "I love the rustic style!" Tix places her elbow on my shoulder, "Right? I thought so too. I guess some people just doesn't see the beauty like we do." She looks at me, winks, and starts walking forward. "So, first thing's first, Trevor is our Alpha here and before you ask..." she puts a finger to my face then continues walking, " Yes, this is a supernatural mansion...but it's for wolf shifters. We are a pack here, but we also have a witch here though. She's our doctor. You'll meet her at some point. We also get visits from different packs and mythicals. It's usually only about business, territory and such." She waves her in a circle like she could go on about it. "You are going to be joining me and the other guys at the meeting. That's where we are going now." "What's the meeting about?" "You." After making a turn down a hallway from the lounge area we come to some double doors that Tix stops in front of and knocks on the red oak wood. "Come in" Trevor's voice comes through from the inside. Tix opens the doors and sways her hips into the room. "Look beasty Alpha, you can't start the meeting without the beauties." She quirks her lips up and puts a hand on her hip. "Beauties? When are they getting here? Hopefully the brain damage hasn't got that far. We might have to have Serena look at you." Chase is leaned back in a chair at the long mahogany table in the center of the room. There is a large fire place behind Trevor and there were other people sitting at the table as well. I figured it might be the people Tix was talking about. I spotted Drake next to Trevor on the right. "Ow, ooh, what an insult, we might also have to ask Serena to check your eyes." "Why?" "Because obviously you must be blind." She then sits in a chair on the opposite side of the table in front of Chase. She pats the seat next to her offering me a spot. "Cheeky, Pix-" Chase is cut off by a book that was thrown at him. "I was hoping you were done with your bad jokes, Chase." A woman with a hour glass figure like no other walks into the room with beautiful long red hair. Her eyes were a emerald green and she was wearing a black dress with a slit up her leg. As she walked passed us she winked at Tix. Tix gave her a thumbs up and she stood in the corner of the room with her arms crossed.
"Whoa, who was that?" Tix looks at me and gives me a large grin. "That's my girl, Serena." "The witch nurse? She's gorgeous!" "Yep! And she is team girl power. Also, she perfers to be called Serena. Witch is derogatory towards her. She never explains why. So call it a taboo I suppose." She shrugs her shoulders. I nod. "Noted." I did not want to get on Serena's bad side, considering she threw a book at Chase for almost calling Tix a name.
"As you all know," Trevor's voice takes command of the room, "we have brought along someone into our pack." They all nod. "Soon we will be at war with the Society and we need her ready to be able to fight with us. So, this meeting is going to be held to help her answer any questions she may have and to inform her of why she is here. Any objections?" His eyes move about to each person in the room. "Yeah, I object. We don't have a clue what she is and she could be a danger to all of our plans. It's a risk even bringing her here." A girl with brown hair and blue eyes catches all of our attention. "Jessica, this isn't something you can change now, so give me a more valid reason for your objection or sit the hell down." Trevor growls at her and her eyes look down away from his. She reluctantly sits down after a minute. "Anymore objections?" He stares everyone down that says for anyone to dare object again. "Good." He stands from his chair and begins an on-slaught of answers to my questions. "The Society was founded by humans who found out the exposure of mythical and/or supernatural beings. They considered it an "illness" that needed to be treated." I gasp from his term of illness. I shook my head. There's no way my parents knew and were a part of this. Were they...? As if taking that as a cue, Trevor reveals that the company is the company my parents own. "GenesisX is the company that has been testing on our kind and using the data to create super soldiers to destroy us. Hence, the creation of project S." Project S must mean for super soldier, but wouldn't that be S.S? I think to myself. I come out of my thoughts to see everyone staring at me. "I'm sorry, but wouldn't it be S.S for super soldier?" "Originally...that's what we thought too. However, we learned of a child that was the sucessful creation of their research. We were just going to destroy the soldier they created, but our infiltrater wasn't able to complete the job. He sent us a video before he was eliminated." A solem look shadowed his features. I felt a pull on my heart. I almost wanted to console him so he wouldn't make that face. I'm sure everyone else felt the same so I didn't dwell on it. He walks over to a laptop and begins to play a video from a file he pulled up. It shows a white hallway and some doors in the building. "I am almost at the target." "Roger, stay focused, Trent." "Copy." You could hear him breathing through the audio. Soon he whips around a corner after almost being caught by a woman in a lab coat. She almost looked like my mom with her hair pulled back. "Coast clear, carry on." "Roger." Trent radio's back in a whisper. I assumed he must've had a ear piece otherwise he would've been spotted by now. After a few more turns, he stops in front of a glass window and you could see a little girl with vibrant dark blue hair sitting and playing with toys. Her amber eyes meet his and she runs towards the glass. "Help me! I don't want to be here! I'm scared! My name is Shane! Can you help me?! Please!" She screams and bangs her hands on the glass. Her screams end up alerting nearby doctors in the area and cause them to spot Trent. They tranquilize him and that's where the footage cuts out. "We lost a good member of our pack that day. May his sacrifice be remembered." Everyone else bows their heads while I am looking down completely shocked of what I saw. My eyes aren't amber and my hair isn't blue. They are brown and a honey gold. "That's...that can't be me. You've got it all wrong, my hair and eyes are different. I don't even remember any of that!" I stand abruptly from my chair and panic coarses through me. "Shane..." Tix gently touches my arm. "No! I can't...I.." tears cut me off and I feel like my whole body is vibrating with a uncontrollable feeling of anxiety. I feel electricity at my finger tips and my bones feel like they are starting to break. I scream in agony from the sensation. "SHE'S SHIFTING!" Tix panicked voice fills my mind. Shifting? What the hell- suddenly darkness takes over my vision.
I awake in a room that is neatly decorated with plant like vines around the room, a fireplace, a mahogony wardrobe, and a nightstand next to the bed. The bed had satin covers the color of teal and the floor was red oak wood. I sit up slowly and make my way out on to the floor. I notice there is a door next to the window and walk over to it and open it. It opens to a bathroom with a mirror, sink, and shower. All the necessities were already in their respectful places. "Guess I just take a shower then." I start to peel off my clothing and realize just how long i've been in them when I get a whiff of my arm pit. "Woo, yeah good call on my part." I make my way into the shower half asleep and awake. I turn the knobs in the shower to the right temperature and try to remember what was going on. All my memories took that chance to slam me with what has happened in the last 24 to 48 hours. "Oh my god, I blacked out." My hands cover my mouth worried I must've hurt someone. "Please tell me I didn't!" I hurriedly scrub myself up and rush out the shower grabbing a towel off the wrack outside the shower. I run pass the mirror and catch a glimpse of blue out the corner of my eye. I slowly walk backwards into the bathroom and in the mirror. "No, no, no, no." I rapidly say frantic. My hair was blue and my eyes were the colour of amber. "This is gotta be some sick joke." I turn around and notice a black celtic mark on my back. "What the fuck is that?!" I scream. Soon the door to my room is slammed open and I rush out of the bathroom only with a towel on to meet Trevor's eyes. "Uh, I heard you scream and well, uh...I just came to make sure you're alright." He rubs the back of his neck embarrassed by what he walked in on. My face has turned a tomato red when I realize I was still in a towel. I rush back into the bathroom and raise my voice so he could hear me, "Yeah! I am fine just, uh, a little shocked is all. All is good here. Yep." As I was running into the bathroom I saw his eyes focused on my back where the mark was. Did he know what it was? Or am I just overthinking this? The door closes to my room and sigh a breath of relief. I walk back out into the room and go to the wardrobe. There was a selection of outfits in my size. Creepy but happy to know they will at least fit. I slide on some underwear. My bra size was accurate too, 38C. Ok, major pervert vibes now. I spot a pair of ripped jeans and short sleeved tee with criss-cross v-neck design showing a little cleavage, but not enough for it to be skimpy. I purposefully chose it so I could spot the person who stared at my chest long enough to get my size right. I look over towards the door and spot a pair of shoes. They were black and white nikes. Good choice of brand. I slide them on with a pair of socks and make my way out the door. "Shane!" Tix hugs me tightly catching me off guard as I was about to close my door. "Tix? You act like you haven't seen me in days." I snicker and hug her back. She doesn't respond and bites her lip. "Well...that's because you were out for days...three whole days." My eyes feel like they've doubled in size and I hold my head in disbelief. "What? Why? The last thing I remember is getting upset and now I have blue hair. Oh my god, tell me I didn't hurt anyone." I grab her by the shoulders and stare into her eyes like a rabid raccoon. She grabs my shoulders and shakes me, "No, you didn't hurt anyone. Calm down." She stops shaking me and I take a breath of relief. "You just...." she pauses a moment, "shifted for the first time, that's all." I stare at her like she said a cow learned how to fly. "I what now?" "Oh no, you've caught Chase's brain damage. Shifted, darling, shifted!" She yells. "I see, well. Then that would explain it wouldn't it?" She nods, "Yeah, it would. It was so cool though! I know you don't remember, but would you like to know what you looked like as a wolf?" She asked. Her eyes had a twinkle in them like she was dying to spill all the tea about a big surprise. "Sure, but can we get something to eat so I can at least take in what you're telling me with something delicious?" She nods excitedly and starts pulling me down the hallway. I start to recount the meeting before I blacked out. So, I am inside a wolf pack's home. That would mean Tix is a wolf shifter. I wonder what her wolf looks like.
