Chapter 138: Chapter 138
Serena Keaton opened the box.
Inside, there were many red envelopes, each labeled with words.
Serena picked up the topmost red envelope and looked at the writing on the cover.
[For one-year-old Serena baby]
Serena opened it and immediately looked at Elias Lancaster. Nᴇw novel chapters are publɪshed on 𝓷𝓸𝓿𝓮𝓵•𝓯𝓲𝓻𝓮•𝓷𝓮𝓽
Then, she opened the second one, [For two-year-old Serena baby]
The third, the fourth...
Until the last one for twenty-two year olds.
"Elias, red envelopes are for holding money, not for piling up cards."
But as she unwrapped them one by one, watching the growing number of cards in her hand, she became increasingly unsettled.
The elders all came downstairs.
Serena quickly pulled Elias along to offer New Year’s greetings, and she had prepared red envelopes for each of them.
And they also prepared red envelopes for Serena.
Serena felt the red envelopes; they didn’t feel like money, more likely cards.
Then, before bed, Serena opened all the red envelopes.
Serena was instantly dumbfounded.
She felt like she had suddenly become a rich woman, with so many cards.
While others received so many red envelopes their hands grew tired, she was overloaded with cards until her hands cramped.
She looked helplessly towards Elias, "I don’t even need these; my studio is making money now, a few million a year."
"These are for you; keep them for future use," Elias said with affectionate indulgence.
The red envelope competition came to an end.
The next morning, after breakfast.
Everyone called to wish New Year’s greetings to their friends and colleagues.
The elders sat together chatting, waiting for other younger family members to come and offer New Year’s greetings. On the coffee table, Nanny Livingston had arranged candies, snacks, and fruits.
The house was decorated with lights, full of festive cheer.
In Aethelgard, the Lancaster Family held a very high status, closely followed by the Keaton Family, especially during such holidays.
Many business partners brought their children to come for New Year’s greetings.
Guests came in waves, making it lively.
Old Madam Lancaster introduced Serena to the visiting guests.
Serena called one uncle, another aunt, all in a flurry.
After the guests left, Elias walked over and sat down, holding Serena by the waist.
"Mom, Serena is tired, whether she recognizes them or not doesn’t matter," Elias said.
"What are you saying! Serena is the mistress of the Lancaster Family, someday the family will be handed over to her," Old Madam Lancaster glared at him.
"Mom, Serena is still young, besides, your health is good enough to live to a hundred and eighty," Elias teased.
"You rascal, what are you talking about, do you think your mom is an old witch?" Old Madam Lancaster retorted with a laugh.
She knew that her son cherished his wife, but there was no choice; the great Lancaster Family would someday need someone to shoulder it.
Forget it, she would help out for a few more years.
She was reluctant to let her daughter-in-law be overworked.
Serena turned her head just in time to see Ronan Keaton supporting Nia Irving downstairs. She quickly got up, "Brother, sister-in-law, you’re finally out of the room."
As soon as she spoke, everyone burst into laughter.
Nia’s face immediately turned red, coquettishly glaring at Ronan.
Ronan coughed awkwardly, "It’s not what you think; Nia is pregnant and had signs of a miscarriage; the doctor advised her to rest for a week."
"I’m going to be an aunt?" Serena was dumbfounded.
"That’s great, it’s such good news," said Old Madam Lancaster. "Good fortune has arrived."
The Keaton Family couldn’t keep the smiles off their faces.
"I seem to remember that Nia is a member of the Lancaster Family. Brother-in-law, what about the betrothal gift then..." Elias raised his eyebrows.
Before Elias could finish, someone slapped his shoulder.
He looked at Serena with grievance, "Honey, you hit me!"
"He’s my brother; how could you!"
"Nia belongs to the Lancaster Family; even if I agreed, the base brothers wouldn’t. We have two sons; we need to save for their dowries," Elias whispered into Serena’s ear.
Serena’s eyes widened, looking at her brother.
Ronan instantly knew Elias was up to mischief; Serena was so innocent, surely led astray by him.
"Brother, just give a little then."
"Next year, the company’s design projects will go to your studio," Ronan said, twitching the corner of his mouth.
"Thank you, brother." Serena looked at Elias, "Elias, Yara and Yuri’s dowries are secured."
As soon as the words were out.
Everyone present looked at Elias.
Old Madam Lancaster sighed in exasperation, "Do we lack money for dowries in this family?"
"The base will also provide dowries."
"Sister-in-law, brother, congratulations on your marriage! You must be happy!" Serena took out a big red envelope she had prepared, sincerely saying.
Mr. and Mrs. Keaton glanced at each other bewildered, did their son marry someone’s daughter?
They all turned to look at Ronan.
Ronan nodded, taking two red booklets from his pocket, handing them over.
They took them, opened them, and smiled in satisfaction.
Then called Ronan away.
"Serena, thank you. If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t dare to accept him. After all, there’s such a big difference between us," Nia said, her eyes wet with tears.
"I should thank you for always protecting me." Serena helped her sit down, watching her tears fall.
"Sister-in-law, don’t cry; otherwise, brother might think I bullied you?"
Just as Serena finished speaking, Ronan came down from upstairs. Seeing his wife crying, he immediately said, "Did you bully her?"
"Sister-in-law, please explain."
"No need; I know you wouldn’t. I was just joking. Sister, thank you!" Ronan said earnestly.
"Are you all trying to make me cry?" Serena was easily moved to tears.
"I should really thank you, this matchmaker." Ronan said, pulling out another red booklet to hand to Serena.
"Serena, it’s the unit next to your studio; your studio should expand," Ronan smiled.
"Thank you, brother!"
Then everyone was eating fruits and snacks, discussing when to hold the wedding, and what to name the baby.
Serena and Nia were beaming with joy and happiness.
Elias and Ronan looked at them, faces filled with indulgent smiles.
After the Spring Festival, the festive spirit faded but life after the reunion continued as usual.
The Keaton family returned to the Keaton residence.
Everyone refocused, ready to strive in the new year.
The work resumed, and everyone was vibrant and energetic.
