Chapter 16: Chapter 16
Early in the morning, as I promised Mark, I transferred all of my things to his room. He’s very excited about today's event and let Allie and Kayden handle all the preparations.
“Are you going to stay in Mark’s room?” Allie asked.
“Yes, Allie. I promised to Mark that I would,” I said.
Allie and I haven’t spoken for two days because she was busy with preparations and her duties, plus she hates the fact that I liked Angel when I told her that I met her and invited her to my party.
“That’s good. At least you two are progressing. I want you little to run in this house.”
“That’s too early. Why don’t you and Kayden do it? You are far more… wait” I sniffed the air. Something is different about her scent. Then it hits me. “You’re pregnant!” I shouted.
She covered my mouth with her hands.
“Shhhhhh. Kayden doesn’t know yet. I just found out this morning.”
“He will find it soon. Your scent has already changed. He might not figure it out yet, but when his wolf recognizes it, he will know.”
“That is why I use perfume when he is around. It masked my scent.”
“Why? Do you not want to have a baby?” I curiously asked. I know Allie loves to have kids. Is Kayden the reason?
“I don’t know. I want to surprise him later. That’s why help me to keep it a secret till its midnight.”
“You are weird. Why are you waiting till midnight to tell him?”
“It’s his birthday, you don’t know?”
“I don’t. I don’t even know when Mark's birthday is,” I said.
“Oh girl, you’re a lost case. You should at least learn the basic information about your mate. Like the names of his parents, his siblings, his exes.”
“Why exes?”
“You need to know your enemies, exes are one of them.”
“Allie, Mark is not like that. I don’t even think that he has had a relationship these past few years. He is busy with his duties.”
“So, you didn’t know?”
“Know what? Will you get to the point? I don’t have all day to figure out what you are talking about,” I said, as I started to get annoyed. She knows I hate giving a piece of incomplete information.
“Before that Angel, there was this woman that Alpha Mark had a relationship with. Her name is Ysabell. She’s not in the pack anymore as she decided to go abroad to study.”
“Study?”
“Yes, study. She chose to leave the pack and study and become a rogue in another country.”
“If she’s out of the country, why would I bother to think about her?”
“She is coming back tonight. That’s the emergency Kayden said to Alpha when you two were out on your date.”
“And you just tell me now?”
She looks a bit guilty. “We have not talked to each other for the past two days, that is why.”
“Allie, you’re unbelievable.”
“Wendy wait…”
I left. I don’t want to talk to her right now. I might say harsh words that will affect the child inside of her.
This kind of information shouldn’t be kept from me. Is that the reason why Mark is nowhere to be found and always busy these days? Is he preparing for her comeback?
‘Where are you?’ I mind linking, Mark.
But he doesn’t answer. I tried again but his line was blocked.
I decided to go back to my old room.
‘What is wrong, Wendy?’ My wolf asked.
‘I can’t reach Mark and I’m mad at Allie right now.’
‘Is this about that ex-girlfriend Ysabell?’
‘You’re listening to our conversation earlier.’
‘Yes,’ she admitted.
‘I hate the idea of being shunned. I know that I have no right but——‘ Lucy cut me.
‘No, right? Have you forgotten who you are in this pack? Who are we?’ She sounded annoyed.
‘Well, it’s not official yet and he can still change his mind.’ Like what Arthur did.
I’m thinking of the past again. I promised him not to compare our relationship to my old one, but here I am again.
‘You’re thinking too much. We are his mate, he is ours, and today, we will become the official Luna of this pack. You don’t have to be afraid.’
I know what Lucy said was right. But I am still afraid of the outcome. Especially when Mark is not answering me and I don’t know where he is right now. It’s kind of frustrating.
‘I'm just afraid that he still likes that girl and rejects us. I can’t handle it anymore.’ I started to cry. I feel lost and don’t want to feel the same feeling I felt when Arthur rejected me and chose Alpha’s daughter over our bond.
It feels like half of my life was taken away from me harshly and I don’t want to experience it anymore.
‘No one will take our mate away from us again. No one.’ Lucy warned. I can feel the dedication in her voice. She would kill anyone who would take away his mate once again. Even if it means death.
I was about to get up and find something to do when Mark opened the door.
“Where have you been?” I asked, like a wife waiting for her late husband at home.
He took a two-step backward.
I didn’t know that Lucy had surfed and was now questioning our mate.
“Wow! What happened? Did someone offend you?” Mark asked as he stalked my every move. He is being cautious.
‘You told me to calm down, but what’s happening to you now?’
‘His scent!’
Then it hits me. Mark's scent is different. There’s another scent that lingers on him.
“Where have you been Mark?” Lucy let me check.
“I was out doing packing business.” He looked a little bit off about my question
“Really? Then why do I smell another she-wolf on you? Do you think I’m stupid?” I shouted.
If he continues to lie, then I will not attend the party later. He can choose that Ysabell girl over me if he wants.
“It’s not what you think it is, Wendy. I just helped her when she fell down. That’s all. She’s a pack member. You don’t have to think that way.”
“Is it Ysabell?”
“ Do you know her?”
“Like what you said, I have got a very nosy best friend.”
“Ysabell and I were over a few years ago. She’s one of our best fighters here but chose to leave the pack and study abroad. We are friends and I understand that she wants to explore the world outside ours.” He explained.
“Then why is she here now? Why did she come back?”
“Her wolf is sick. She’s been away from a pack for too long. Her wolf needs a pack to recover, that is why I let her come back. It’s not a big deal. Trust me on this one, please?”
“I don’t know. You can leave now. I want to rest. I’ll see you at the party later.” I said, dismissing him.
“You are going, right?” He sounded unsure and sad and it hurt me and my wolf.
“I’ll be there. I just need to rest,” I said.
“See you later, Love.” He said before closing the door.
I stupidly smiled at his endearment.
Love?
