Chapter 48: Chapter 48
"What are you scared of?" He asked immediately as I cringed out of his arms.
I walked back to him and held his chin tenderly with tears brimming in my eyes as I made sure we were looking at each other.
His handsome face and torso were everything a woman would want in a guy. His misty brows and chiseled jaw with those eyes that emanated strength, including his pouted lips that could make one horny just staring at them, were all so special and the last thing I would want to see was bruises on his face.
I couldn't let him fight Aurora by himself because it would be too dangerous, especially since my visions had clearly shown me that Aurora was a high-ranking demon. The demon scent that I smelled around her in that dream was just like that of the demon king, which means she had almost the same power as him.
"Please don't fight Aurora. She is more powerful than you think, probably one of the most deadly demons. I don't want anything to happen to you." I purred and sulked as I trailed my palm along his cheeks softly. My heart was pumping faster in anxiety as I hoped he would listen to me.
"What do you mean? Will that worn-out woman defeat me in a fight? Even if she is a demon, she can't stand me. I guess you are underestimating my strength." He frowned, and I sighed in confusion, my fear growing more than I could imagine.
Just then, I felt something like a beast moving inside me slightly, and at that same moment, flashes of that vision I had while inside the wolfsbane and silver torture rushed in.
I was seeing them again as it battered my head, making me breathe harder.
"Don't fail me. I have failed, but I have faith in you. Don't fail too, because you are the only hope remaining!" That statement from my mother rang inside my head like a bell, and I quickly clutched my head tight while trembling.
I felt Jaden hug me tight as he was asking what was wrong with me, but his voice sounded distant and faint.
"If you don't save them, this will be their fate. Not even your mate will be spared!" The words from the so-called beast inside me echoed alongside my mother's voice, taunting me and forcing me to shriek.
"I am your second beast. You just have to be strong till I rise." That was what the beast had said to me afterwards, and hearing it again now, I realized it must be that same beast that I felt its movement inside me earlier.
In a blink, everything that just happened stopped, and I returned back to reality to see my body being hugged tightly into Jaden's arms.
"Tell me whatever it is. If you feel any pain or anything. Just talk to me and I will do anything possible to stop it. Remember I told you how much I cared for you? I think I also love you so much. Please stop scaring me." I was hearing him say all that while hugging and rubbing my back sweetly.
"I am suffocating in this tight hug. I am not dying unless you want to kill me with the hug..." I whined playfully while blushing at his words. Jaden is just so romantic, yet he doesn't seem to know which makes it sweeter.
He broke the hug sharply and covered his mouth, looking at me with the "did you hear all I said?" expression.
"Why were you acting weirdly just now?"
"You confessed to loving me so much!" I chirped, and he grunted, rolling his eyes as he looked away shyly.
"You think I can't defeat Aurora, right? I will prove you wrong and show you how powerful I am." He boasted and I grunted, racking my brain to find the most convincing words to use to stop him from meeting his death in the hands of Aurora, who he had yet to know how lethal and venomous she was.
At just that same time, the door of his room was pushed open, and we both turned sharply to see who could barge in that way.
We were surprised to see It was Carl, staggering and limping in, with two guards helping him to walk as he placed his arm on their shoulders.
His face was dry and pathetic as he looked really sick and worn out. Tears welled up in my eyes immediately as I rushed to him and held his chin up.
His eyes, which were always bright and filled with life, were now like a very dim light, so drawn and weak. He looked pale, and it hurts me more to realize I was the cause of his pitiful state. I was the one who put him in danger and at a risk that almost took his life.
"Carl, how do you feel? It must hurt so badly, I know. That woman is a devil!" I screeched, feeling my heart grow heavy as he grunted in pain while I joined hands with the guards to lead him over to the bed.
I can't even recognize Carl anymore as he is now like the bony version of himself. I can't just help but imagine how deadly Aurora's poison must have been to turn a powerful Lycan like him into this. Even Jaden looked stunned as he stared at his friend.
"He insisted on coming to see you and said it was very important for your life. That is why we brought him in, sir." One of the guards explained immediately, as if they knew Jaden was going to ask why they stressed Carl that much to bring him all the way from the pack clinic to this place.
"He couldn't use mind link in this state. We had no option but to bring him here, sir. Please forgive our incompetence." The other guard had to add his own part as they both bowed in fear. It was clear they dreaded Jaden so much and had to explain before he ended up hitting them.
"You can leave. I will call you when he needs to go back." Jaden dismissed them with a wave of his hand, and it took a second for their presence to disappear. I don't know why they actually went out in such a hurry, as if they would get punished if they walked instead.
I sat beside Carl, taking his left palm into mine as I caressed them softly, my tears dropping on them. The poison was eating up his flesh, and every part of him was lean, making me wonder if he was being treated at all.
"How could you not wait till you recover a bit before stressing your body to come here? You have no right to die, so you fucking need to get the best treatment and become well and healthy as soon as possible!" Jaden huffed at him, but his tone showed how much he cared for him.
"Yes, Carl, your body systems are weak. You should stress them at all." I added, and he slowly raised his gaze, which was lowered to the ground, and directed it at me.
A weak smile appeared on his face but disappeared almost at the same time ,replaced with a wince of pain.
He took a deep breath and his mouth was shaking as he tried to talk.
"Aurora, you are very wicked. I wish I could burn you to ashes. May the moon goddess strike you down with thunder, crushing your bones and blasting your skull filled with evil!" I burst into a cry as my heart panged like hell.
How could someone be as heartless as Aurora to poison Carl in such a way that he couldn't even talk freely? I could only imagine the burning and stinging pain he would be passing through right now.
"I...have to...come over here... quickly to..warn you about Aurora..I don't think you can defeat her.. She is an extremely powerful demon." He finally spoke out after a few seconds of struggling to open his mouth.
Jaden was surprised at that moment as he drew closer and squatted to look closely at Carl. He must have never thought Carl would say such a thing after knowing how powerful he was, but the truth is that his powers can't be compared to those of Aurora, and Carl, who had faced her in a fight, must have realized that.
