Chapter 48: Chapter 48

Chapter 47

Garfield West ~

“About four of them to be precise. They obviously came for…. They came for you.” Mrs. Flora said turning to meet the confused eyes of Red.

“Mom, what do you mean by ‘they came for me’ and why does he keep calling you that?” Red asked.

It was far from obvious that she was confused. I would be if I was in her shoes right now. Even after Ryan told me about the supernatural world and some others about ‘Elena’, everything still messed up in my head so I’m sure that Red is in a similar shoe if not worse.

“For a very long time now, I have been hiding so much from you. I don’t know how things managed to get like this but they did and I’m so sorry for everything happening to you now. I should’ve hidden you better.” “Hearing me say this must be very confusing for you but I did what I had to just so I could save your life and so many others that depend on it.” Mrs. Flora kept talking and from where I stood, I could see her eyes water and eventually, a tear rolled down her cheeks.

She was worried for Red.

This might sound totally bizarre but here it goes. “Red, after I kissed you, the first time, something in me changed or rather evolved. I felt different more like powerful. Like I could lift a plane if I wanted to.”

“That’s not all. My arm turned lycan just like yours did and there was a voice in my head and one of the things that he told me was that your mom had the answers to all our questions.” I added. “Now, I know that whoever that person is, he was right.”

I guess I shouldn’t have just told Mrs. Flora that I kissed her daughter. Not yet at least and not at a situation like this. She is sure to bring about some sort of magical link between me and her daughter after it happened. Why is magic so wavy?

“You did what???” Mrs. Flora said in a scold.

“Mom, it’s no big deal besides….” Red cut in but was sealed by her mother.

“Red, you shared a portion of your power with him just by that kiss. It may be dormant but with magic in the air, a little push is just enough to trigger it. Little wonder why Gar was transforming. Somehow, the kiss…..” said Mrs. Flora with a sigh.

“… turned me into a lycan?” this felt so crazy coming out of my mouth.

How could I have just kissed Elena and then suddenly, I become a lycan?

“Last time I checked, that’s not possible.” she replied.

“Gar, save your questions for after we’ve dealt with our current situation. There’s no way that Cassius would send so little as four lycans after one of the most powerful beings in existence and considering the fact that they haven’t found you yet and he hasn’t arrived, they would be back anytime now.” “They probably have some sort of tracking device or a locator spell working for them.” Ryan said pacing about.

“Ryan, how is it possible that those lycans were able to come into this world with their powers intact? You told me that the reason why you don’t have your powers here is because of the fact that unlike vampyres, you exceed the limit of nature. Aren’t lycans meant to exceed that limit as well?” I asked making him stop his pacing.

“That’s what worries me so much.” Ryan said out of his pacing as he walked towards a window. “I can make out that since Elena has her some signs of magic in her that it’s because she is the trybrid child and you share in some of that power by being her mate by heart and by that kiss. She is special in so many ways but Cassius isn’t and neither are his lycans.” He added peeping through the window probably for signs of any more lycans.

“I fear Cassius has found a way to get over to this world without losing his powers. It has never been attempted. Only one magical totem has enough energy to command such.” Mrs. Flora said.

“…The Tree of Magic!” Ryan said. “But that couldn’t have happened! I trust Frederick did all he could do to prevent that. His Majesty wouldn’t have let him have anything to do with the tree.” He added before heading towards another window.

“Who’s Frederick?” Charlie asked after a long while of silence. “And what’s ‘The Tree of Magic’?”

“Ryan, you dragged him into this too?” Red’s mom asked with a look of surprise and a bit of worry on her face.

“I didn’t drag that kid into any of this but Elena couldn’t bring herself to keep him out.” Ryan said pointing to Charlie. “I get his memories wiped as soon as the opportunity presents itself.”

“Would you stop calling me that? My name is Red and unlike you, I don’t think myself higher than him.” Red shot out.

“You should! He’s a human and well…. You’re much more.” Ryan said with a fixed gaze at Red making me feel a little bit uncomfortable as to how he spoke to her.

“Ryan, that’s enough.” “Seen any sign of a lycan yet?” I asked Ryan with an arched brow.

“Fortunately, none…. Yet!”

“Charlie, you shouldn’t have gotten yourself mixed up in all these. I understand that you are my daughter’s best friend but at a time like this, it is best that humans just stay away from us and that includes Red.” “The dangers involved are too much… right now even for us.” Mrs. Flora said getting up from the couch.

“Don’t bother! He has already seen and known too much. Unless you plan on using a memory wiping spell on him, just forget he is a human and fill in.” I said.

“The coast is clear of lycans. Red or at least someone who spoke with her lips said that you are the only one that can take Red and myself to the other world. She said that would be the basis of defeating Cassius.” I said to Mrs. Flora before turning to Red.

“Don’t you think it to be a great idea to go there right now considering the fact that unlike here, we would and by we, I mean Ryan and you would be able to use whatever magical powers that you possess to protect the rest of us from Cassius’ lycans and any other threat from him while we both figure things out.” I added with my attention glued on Red.

“Absolutely not!” Ryan said with a forceful tone. “I managed to escape from Cassius after losing all of my brothers to his greedy hunger for power. I am the last of my kind because of him. I can’t let Cassius have me too and no one is certain that even with my powers in the supernatural world, he wouldn’t make me share the same fate with my brothers?”

“Elena is not the only one that he’s after. Not even Elena is strong enough yet to ensure her own safety. She needs to converse herself with her true self.” I added with more forcefulness.

“You have got that right!” A strange voice said appearing a few paces from Ryan and gave him a punch in the gut. Making him fly across the room.
