Chapter 38: Hunting Down my Man
Kendra’s P.O.V:
I woke up to the light of the sun burning my eyes.
I groaned, my head feeling like a block of iron, and covered my face with the duvet, but the slide of soft silk against my naked skin brought me back to instant attention. I pressed my hands to my temple in a vain attempt to reduce the headache and opened my eyes, only to shut them again as the sun rays hit my eyes directly.
I sat up in my bed, hands still covering my head and the covers dropped from my body, exposing my bare breasts. My nipples instantly hardened as the cool morning air made goosebumps rise on my skin.
The sound of someone whistling in front of me forced me to open my eyes. “Nice view. I could get up to this every morning.”
“Gina?” My voice sounded hoarse and my throat ached. And why on Earth did my eyes feel so puffy?
“Morning beautiful,” she handed me a cup of scalding hot coffee while she took a sip of her own cup.
“What’re you doing here?” I took a sip of my coffee and instantly felt the ache in my throat lessen.
“You don’t remember what happened last night?” Gina took a seat at the foot of my bed.
“If I did, I wouldn’t be asking you!” I sneered at her before getting out of bed butt naked and going over to my closet to grab a loose t-shirt and panties. If what I fear did happen and I did sleep with...someone, since it can’t be Gina, I might as well find someone else to shout at since everyone knows how well I handle admitting my own vices.
“Well, for starters, you got dead drunk.” She took a slow slip of her coffee, deliberately trying to get on my nerves. “And then you started kissing some random guy at the bar, who was practically undressing you right in the middle of the dance floor. So me being the saint that I am; I got you out of there before you made the biggest mistake of your life and regretted it forever ...and then I brought you home.”
“It doesn’t end there, does it?” I took a swig of my coffee and winced as the hot coffee burned its way down my food pipe. I took my cup with me and sat myself against the headboard of my bed, facing Gina.
“Oh no, it gets better!” Gina continued with a wicked grin. “Then you started taking your clothes off and tried to get into my pants. I was about to hit you on top of your head just so I could get you unconscious, but thankfully I didn’t have to. You started screaming and crying and yelling that you didn’t want this, that I was taking Victor away from you and that you wanted to drown both me and Victor into a pot of boiling lava.”
I groaned, both from the headache and for my ridiculous behaviour.
“Look,” Gina said after some time while I was still processing everything. “Victor and I have been best friends since childhood. We’ll always be each other’s Gin and Tonic, our bond is very old and we’ll probably always love each other, but that doesn’t mean we’re in love with each other. Victor has been yours since the first time he saw you that summer and he hasn’t shut up about you since then.” She looked into my eyes then, her sea blue orbs intense. “But you’ve hurt him enough Kendra. Don’t keep letting your insecurities get in between you two. Victor usually doesn’t give up on something he wants, but this time, it’s clear he’s getting exhausted.”
My hands tightened on the mug. Yeah that hurt. Knowing that I’m the reason Victor might be suffering...but he always comes back...he doesn’t give up so easily!
I won’t wait forever, Kendra.
“Shit!” I cursed under my breath. What am I supposed to do? If I accept Victor with all my heart, I won’t ever be able to let him go. He’ll get tired of it eventually; he won’t be able to bear the possessiveness. But if I decide to let him go-NO!
I couldn’t even think about it. Victor had been the only one to see past my shield. He’d seen the real Kendra Millar, the scared little girl who was afraid of getting close to a man because she was scared of turning out to be just like her mother. And Victor had accepted me once, before I deliberately pushed him away, twice. But if I let my fears win, I’d be just like my mother, who’d let her fears control her.
“He’s gone to Vegas on an official trip. He should be back in a week or so.” Gina told me as she got off my bed. “Thought I’d let you know.”
“Where are you going?” I asked her as she went out of my room.
“Home!” She yelled from the kitchen. “Go find your man while I get back to my girl.”
My eyes widened in surprise. “Girl?”
“Tonic didn’t tell ya?” She asked. “I swing the other way, hun. If you’re ever up for it, let me know.” With a wink and a flip of her hair, Gina was out of the door, her hips swaying seductively as she went.
I shook my head. There was no point in wasting any more time, I’ve already wasted enough. It’s time to go hunting for my man. And this time, I’m planning on never letting go, no matter what the future held.
