Chapter 39: What Happens in Vegas
Victor’s P.O.V
“Good job, kid.” Gustav, one of the senior constructors, slapped me in the back as we headed back to our condos where we would be staying for the next two weeks. “I didn’t think you could pull it off, but you gave us all a run for our money. Keep it up.”
There was admiration and respect in his eyes as well as the rest of the team that I’d been assigned and it made me feel damn proud that I’d accomplished so much in just three days.
Refusing an offer for some cold beer and going out clubbing, I parted from my teammates and headed to my condo for some much needed hot shower to wash off the dust and some sleep. I was desperately in need of sleep, because I clearly haven’t been able to since the night I left LA and Kendra, giving her time to think.
Bullshit!
She didn’t need time to think, she needed time so she could run as hard and fast away from me, like she did the last time. Why couldn’t she see that I loved her for who she is? Why couldn’t she just let the past go?
Frustrated, I slammed the door shut behind me as soon as I entered my condo, and headed straight for the shower. It’s been a long and stressful day and thinking about that Hellion little blonde is the last thing I want to be doing right now.
But as I stripped down and got under the warm spray of water, I felt two hands wrap around me from behind as a naked woman joined me in the shower. For a second I thought my teammates had played some kind of trick on me, but there was no mistaking the feel of that skin against mine; how we both fit perfectly against each other and how the caressing hands were so familiar as they cleaned the dirt from my body.
“What are you doing here?”I asked with a throat gone thick with emotions.
“Cleaning you? You looked quite hot when you took off your shirt today, to help with the work; made me want to jump your bones right then and there.” Her voice sounded husky and I could feel their vibration through my back from where she’s plastered herself to me like a second skin.
I spun around to face her and grabbed both her hands in mine and pushed her back against the wall behind us. I couldn’t think straight with her hands on me and for this, I needed to be as focused as possible. “No more games, Kendra. I’ve had enough of them!” I growled at her, bringing my face mere centimeters away from hers. “Tell me what you want, right now.”
Kendra locked her eyes with me so I could see what she meant when she said it.
“You.” She said after a few moments of silence. “Us.”
“You’ll have to be more specific.” I told her, her hands still held in my grip. But when she tugged at them, I let go so she could put her hands on my body. Kendra Millar was truly an enigma, in that I could never predict what she would do next.
She glided her hands up my sides, over my chest and finally joined them at the base of my neck, pulling me even closer so there wasn’t any room between us. “I want to be with you, Victor Summers. From now, until forever. I thought I was saving you by letting you go, but who’s going to save me when I’m left broken and crazy when you leave me. I knew you were the forever kind the first time I saw you and I was afraid that I’d ruin you if I stayed.” She touched her forehead with mine as she took a deep breath. “I’m so sorry for breaking your heart, Victor. Trust me, I never felt worse while doing it. But...”
“We were too young.” I finished for her. “And you weren’t sure if it’d last. And if I’m honest with you, I didn’t think so either. But when I couldn’t get you out of my system even six whole months after you broke my heart and trampled on the remains, I decided that the only way I could get you out of my system will be by having you in my life permanently. I’m sorry for hurting you when I said this was all a game, but I knew that for us to work out; you’d have to make the last move.”
“I just did!” Kendra accused. “And to think you had it all planned out.”
“It worked, didn’t it?” I smiled and gave her a quick kiss on the lips. “But I guess the emotional strain of it all...that’s something no one could have planned out. Thank you for being mine. Now, are you ready for the final part of my master plan?”
“There’s more?” She asked as I shut the water. “But I thought this was the final part?”
“Forever, remember.” I told her smiling. “And since, we’re already in Vegas...”
“Don’t you think it’s a little too late for the ‘what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas’ phrase?” She asked a little confused.
“I know that. But Vegas is also famous for something else.” I urged her to remember and finally, I saw realization brighten her eyes.
“Impromptu weddings.” She said excitedly. “What are we waiting for?”
“Ummm...getting dressed?” I pointed out, before adding with a smirk, “Although, I wouldn’t mind if we had our honeymoon before the wedding.”
Apparently, Kendra and I were on the same page with that.

“Do you, Victor Summers, take Kendra Millar as your lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better or for worse, to love and to cherish in sickness and in health, till death do you part?”
“I do.”
“And do you, Kendra Millar, take Victor Summers as your lawfully wedded husband, to h-“
“Yes! I do!” Kendra snapped at the priest in the yellow jumpsuit, impatiently. “Get to the good part already!”
The priest, who looked to be in his mid-thirties, gave Kendra an exasperated sigh. “I’m too sober for this.” He muttered under his breath before continuing with the wedding. “With the power bestowed upon me, I now pronounce you man and wife. You may now...umm....yeah.”
The priest finished awkwardly since Kendra and I were already kissing the life out of each other.
After we’d had our shower together, Kendra and I had spent a good three hours in bed before we had headed out to buy our rings and found ourselves a decent church to marry in. But that was the easy part, and now that it was over, it was time for dealing with the hardest part.
Telling Grace and my parents about our wedding. And just to be on the safer side, we’ll tell Grace first.
