Chapter 37: Chapter 37

Chapter 37: What are friends for?

Victor’s P.O.V:

“Gin! Gin, I need to tal-Holy shit!”

I’d made the mistake of entering her room without knocking and as a result, I’d just seen something I could never unsee.

“Seriously, dude! Learn to knock!” Sabine, Gina’s girlfriend, just walked past me half naked and slammed the door shut with a bang for dramatic effect.

“Are you decent?” I asked, covering my face with my hands, although nothing can save me from nightmares now.

“And what exactly is new that you haven’t seen yet?” Gina’s voice sounded breathless as she shuffled around the bed to get dressed. “Turn around. I’m dressed.”

“We’re not five anymore!” I turned around to face the bed and removed my fingers from my face one by one. Gina was sitting on the bed wearing an oversized t-shirt and shorts and she motioned for me to have a seat at the foot of the bed. I cringed. Was there no way I’m gonna sit there after what I’d just witnessed.

“I’ll just sit on the couch....err...table.” I changed my decision when I spotted two matching lacy black bras on the seat.

“Shoot.” She sat cross legged on the bed, ready to soak up all the gossip.

“I’m going to Vegas.” I told her.

“Okay...but why?” She tilted her head to the side in confusion.

“I took the work offer. I’ll be leaving tonight with my group.” I didn’t know why I was telling her this in person, but I knew Gina will be able to help me figure that out. We’ve been best friends since we were practically in diapers and everyone had thought we’d end up together, her being gay aside but Gina had always felt like a sister to me. Someone I could talk to about anything I wanted and I knew she’d understand.

“So, you haven’t professed your undying love for her yet.” It wasn’t a question and I knew Gina had found out exactly why I was here.

“No.” I sighed, running my hands down my face. “I don’t want to, Gin. She has to realize it on her own this time. I don’t want history repeating itself and Kendra is a very stubborn woman.”

“Stubborn enough to let you go?” Asked Gina.

“She had once before, I don’t see why she’d hesitate this time.” I shook my head. “I was so sure this time, Gin. I thought I knew what was going on in her head, but...”

“It’s not your fault, Tonic. Many a man has tried to decipher what goes on in here, but to no avail.” She tapped at her head with one finger. “But from what you’d told me about this chick, hate fucking didn’t quite feel like the best way to win her over.”

“I wasn’t hate fucking anyone!” I told her sharply. “Definitely not Kendra. I was just trying to make her come to me of her own free will. And now, I just feel like...maybe we aren’t meant to be...”

“Did you tell her you’re leaving tonight?” She asked pointedly.

“No.” I shook my head, already feeling a headache start to form. “We had a huge fight today. We said all the wrong things and I don’t think it’s going to get any better from here.”

“Awww, my poor baby!”Gina climbed off the bed and came over to give me a hug. “You just got the tough cookie, that’s all.”

She went to give me a kiss on the cheek but I dodged it at the last moment. “No way are you kissing me with that mouth before you shower! I don’t even want to imagine where it’s been.”

“Hey!” Gina looked offended for a second before she grinned widely and opened her arms wide in invitation. “Come here my baby!” She began chasing me all around her room, her lips puckered, ready to give me a kiss as I ran around the room to try and dodge her.

“I’ll see you soon.” I waved goodbye to Gina and her sulking girlfriend half an hour later.

“How unfortunate.” Gina sighed dramatically, but then waved me goodbye with a beaming smile. “Stay safe and don’t get into trouble.”

But as I left her apartment, I felt my heart grow heavy with every step I took. Was I really doing the right thing by leaving so soon? Maybe if I’d waited a little longer, then Kendra would have enough time?

But a voice in my head reminded me that she’d already made me wait for two years. How much longer can I wait for her?

Gina’s P.O.V:

“Babe, get dressed. We’re going clubbing.”I told Sabine as soon as I’d shut the door behind Tory.

“Clubbing?” Sabine asked, her dark hair hanging in lose curls around her face. “But you hate clubbing!”

“I know baby, but I’m sure Kendra will be there tonight, drowning out her doubts and sorrows.” I told Sabine. “And I have a feeling that she’s gonna need my help or she’ll do something really stupid.”

“Do you really have to get involved in this?” Sabine asked wearily.

“Trust me, I have way better things to do.” I winked at her, making colour creep up her cheeks. “But if I don’t do this much for Tonic, what kind of a best friend would I be?”

And so we went the night out clubbing...and trying to control a very drunk blonde with wild corkscrew curls and a broken heart.
