Chapter 286: Chapter 286: Spirit orb of the South
Barry, Patty, and Iris, alongside many Spirits, traveled to the south, where the southern spirit orb was located. The spirits with them resembled wolves, and they were eager to reclaim their land.
The southern island wasn’t that far from the central island, so they all rode on large flying magical carpets.
"Are you sure this thing is safe?" Even though Barry was a hero and wasn’t afraid of heights, he was still uncomfortable riding on something that didn’t seem stable, with all the fluttering the carpet was doing.
"Just calm yourself." One of the wolf spirits chuckled. "Riding on a carpet takes practice, so it’s understandable that you will not be used to it since it’s your first time riding on one. But everything should be okay since you are able to fly."
That was another thing about Barry. "Yeah, I can’t fly...yet."
"Oh." The wolf spirit didn’t know how to respond. "Well, better not fall."
"Y-Yeah, good advice."
It didn’t take long for them to arrive at the southern island. Just like the northern one, the place was overrun with demons, and for some reason, they seemed to be mining some sort of ore. Instead of a fort, the demons here built a base where they conducted their work.
"Those demon bastards! They’re mining our sacred ore! We have to stop them!"
Barry agreed. "Everyone, I’ll attack now. We don’t know when they will spot us, so it’s better to strike before they can. Once my attack lands, we will charge in there and reclaim the orb."
Everyone agreed and prepared themselves.
Barry took a deep breath, concentrating his energy into his sword. He channeled his power alongside Aquaphina’s power, and his sword hummed with power.
The sky, which was already dark, boomed from the sound of thunder, and rain started pouring down on the demon base.
The demons simply thought it was a change in the weather, but soon, the heavy rain turned into a devastating storm of falling icicles, each of them laced with the power of the hero.
"This isn’t normal rain! Arghh!"
"Run! Run for your-Karghhh!"
"Help meee! Ahhhh!!"
Because of the divine power of the icicles, their defenses barely worked, and demons were being killed by the dozen. But Barry wasn’t done with his onslaught.
"And time for the grand finale." Water droplets hovered around his sword, spinning really fast to create a vortex around it. "Goddess form 3: Hurricane Strike." He lifted his sword over his head, then swung down with all his might.
A massive vortex of wind and water stormed the island, destroying anything in its path. Demons were torn to shreds by the powerful winds, the water burned the demons as it was laced with divine energy, and the hurricane caused rain icicles to fly in all directions, causing more death and destruction.
"Now! Attack!"
Every spirit wolf leaped off the flying carpet, their anger apparent and their spirits full of rage.
"My brothers and sisters, it’s time to reclaim our home! For our families who perished, for the friends we lost, for the glory of the spirit world, we will win!" The spirits, full of confidence and anger, landed on the ground and started their onslaught.
"Let’s go, Patty."
"Right."
Iris and Patty followed the spirits, landing not too long after they did. Immediately, they were met with resistance, but they were more than ready to face it.
A fiery zigzag tore through the battlefield as Iris set her path ablaze, cutting down every demon in her line of sight. She was a sorcerer, not a torrent, but she still loved martial arts.
With her right hand, she cut down her enemies, with her left hand, she bombarded them with fire spells, with her left leg, she crushed the demons in her way, and with her right leg, she propelled herself faster than normal, appearing like a bolt of fire.
"Get her!"
"Stop that stupid elf!"
Demons surrounded her, but she welcomed them. If this were before she was stronger, then she would have needed a hand, but now, she was more than enough to take them on.
"Let me see. One, two...five...ten. Only ten of you? That’s a bit unfortunate. I know you’re strong, but that’s not enough." She stomped her foot, flames jetting in all directions.
The demons jumped back, but some were still burned.
Iris created spinning rings of fire and tossed them toward the demons, watching as they tore through their bodies. Some tried to run away, but she grabbed all of them with flame whips, then slammed them onto the ground.
The moment she was about to cut off their heads, their bodies were suddenly squashed by an unknown force.
"Really, Patty?"
"You were taking too long." She chuckled, showing Iris fifty demons she captured who were dangling in the air. She crushed all of their heads and watched as they dropped to the ground.
"Damn. You’re using space magic like it’s nothing now."
"Normally, it would cost too much mana, but now, it’s as easy as using my defense spells."
"That’s awesome."
A large explosion went off, and the ground shook as if it were trying to split apart.
"What was that?" Iris looked around to see what caused the tremors.
"Barry. He’s fighting the demon knight. Seems like they’re going at it."
And going at it they were. Barry had kicked the demon knight into a large hill and sent slashes of compressed water toward him.
"You fucking hero! I’ll cut off your head and present it to the demon king!" The demon knight deflected the water slashes and charged at Barry.
Their swords clashed, and a massive shockwave tore through the land.
The demon aimed for Barry’s head, but he parried, kneeing the demon in the belly. Barry swung his sword down to end the fight; however, it passed through a black mist instead of the demon’s body.
Black lightning stormed from the demon’s hands, ripping up the land between the two of them. Barry, not afraid, rushed toward the lightning and held his blade in front of him. The lightning coiled around it, turned white, and he flung it back to the demon, striking him square in the chest.
"Arghhhhhh!!!!!" The demon tried to get up, but he felt a sword pierce his leg.
Barry stood over the demon, his hand containing a ball of water. "It’s over."
"It’s not over until I kill you!" The spirit orb that demons had stolen appeared in the demon knight’s hand, and he attempted to use its power against Barry, but his arm was cut off, and his face was blasted into nothing before he could.
"Did you really think I would allow you to use that? Disgusting bastard." Barry picked up the orb, which was the size of his palm, and wiped his sword clean of demon blood.
"We completed our mission. Let’s hope the others are doing as well as we are."
