Chapter 287: Chapter 287: Spirit orb of the East
"I can’t wait to kill all those bastards! My body is ready!" Kyana was sitting on top of Kai’s carriage as she, Nadya, Cornelia, and Bearkin Spirits traveled toward the eastern island.
The carriage could only hold around 15 people, so the rest had to follow behind on flying carpets.
"Kyana, how many times do I have to tell you to get off the roof?" Nadaya was trying to pull her back inside the carriage, but Kyana refused.
"You just don’t understand, Nadya. You don’t use spirits, I do. I understand these people’s pain, their suffering, and it feels so good to help them. I can feel my connection to the spirits getting stronger because of it!"
"Yeah, that’s cool. Now get back inside."
"No! This is my calling!"
Nadya sighed. "You’re acting like Kai."
Kyana’s smile vanished, and she gave Nadya a serious look. "Don’t push it."
---
"Achooo!" Kai sneezed. "Is someone talking about me?"
---
"Alright, I give up." Nadya put her head back inside the carriage and relaxed until they arrived at the eastern island.
"Is she normally like this?" Cornelia asked. She’s been around for a few weeks, but she still didn’t understand their dynamic since she was relatively new.
"No, she’s usually calm and bruting unless she’s having sex with Kai. She wails like a newborn baby when she’s with him."
"I heard that!"
"Good."
"I-I see. This journey has been amazing with you all so far. I got to experience a lot of things I would never have if I didn’t meet you all." Cornelia was truly thankful for the experience.
"Well, stick around and you’ll be able to experience a lot more."
"I see it! The island! We’re close!" Kyana stomped on the roof.
Nadya peeked outside and saw the island as well. She frowned, seeing how tightly secure the place was. Nadya wasn’t worried about being pushed back, but it looked as if the demons were waiting for an attack.
There was a wall that completely surrounded the island, with tons of demons patrolling the perimeter. Demons were in the air as well, looking around in all directions to spot anything traveling by air.
"I’m going in!" Kyana announced.
"Kyana, wait. Could you not rush in without the rest of us? We’re all in this together."
She scoffed. "This isn’t some high school musical; this is a funeral, and I’m about to prepare the bodies."
Kyana lept off the carriage and pulled out her bow. She pulled back her bow string, and light shimmered into existence.
"Today’s forecast is cloudy with a chance of death arrows!" Releasing her string, four arrows rained down on the demon camp, then it split into eight, then sixteen, then 100, then 200, then 1,000, then 5,000 arrows.
"Wow, I sounded like Kai."
Over at the demon camp. One of them just so happened to look up and nearly shit his pants.
"Uhh, bro. Are those...arrows?"
"Huh? What are you...no fucking way."
Both of them died as arrows pierced their skulls.
"We’re under arghhhh!!"
"Sound the ahhhh!"
"Alert! We need to argghhhh!"
One after the other, demons fell to the arrows that rained down on their camp. Some managed to avoid being hit, but then the arrow would just follow them until it impaled their heart or brain.
Those lucky enough to completely avoid the arrows were still unlucky because the moment the arrows touched any surface, they exploded.
After all of the arrows did the initial work of clearing out the fodder demons, Kyana landed and went to work, shortly followed by the bear spirits and her companions.
Arrows flew into the heads of demons at every corner, not giving them a chance to fight back.
"Die!" A demon jumped from the wall and onto Kyana
She turned around and fired an arrow into his mouth.
Another demon came from behind her, and she backflipped over him, shooting him in the heart.
"You’re really having the time of your life." Chains of mana wrapped around the demons and humans, crushing their bodies into mush. Then, a massive barrier surrounded a group of them and squashed them all like bugs.
"That was pretty brutal, Nadya," Kyana said as she slit the throat of a demon with her knife.
"Says the woman who rained down death arrows and gave a corny ass line like Kai would do."
Kyana blushed. "D-Don’t tell him I did that."
"I won’t. By the way, look at Cornelia. She’s really good."
Kyana looked over where Cornelia was, and she was giving the demons the hardest time of their lives.
She used a rapier and jabbed holes into their bodies. No demon stood a chance against her with the way she was moving.
Cornelia used ice on her feet to skate around the battlefield, stabbing demons in the head and hearts while using her free hand to guide her movements while casting water spells.
"Impressive. She’ll make a good addition to our group."
"YOU FILTHY SPIRIT BASTARDS!"
"Oh, and here’s the Demon Knight." Kyana readied her bow.
"HOW DARE YOU ATTACK MY-ARGHH!" An arrow flew through his head.
He died. Just like that.
"Well, now that that’s over. Let’s get this spirit orb."
All of the spirits were taken aback. They knew the girls were strong, but they didn’t expect the demon knight, one of the demons who caused a lot of death and destruction, to be killed so easily.
"Is this the spirit orb?" Cornelia looked at the orb in Kyana’s hand, poking at it to see if it would do anything.
"Seems like it. I can feel spiritual energy from it. This is a new thing for me as well because normally spirits use mana, not spirit energy." Kyana tried looking into the orb’s energy, but couldn’t because of the demonic energy.
"That makes sense." One of the spirits walked over to her. "Spirits manifest a form that uses mana in the physical world. But here, in the spirit world, we use spiritual energy. Have you noticed that you can still use mana? It’s because the energies are connected."
Kyana nodded. "The more you know."
"Alright, people, let’s wrap things up here and get moving!"
