Chapter 89: Chapter 89

Amelia's POV

"So, we meet again! How did you not recognize me before?" he asked looking a little offended while I gaped at him. Did it look like I hadn't recognized him when I was aching for him in reality?

"Why shouldn't I recognize you? I thought you didn't," I pointed out to him and his jaws dropped with disbelief.

"How could I forget you, my baby doll?" he said with a teasing grin. I gaped at the familiar nickname he always used on me. So he remembered everything! I rolled my eyes at him but my heart skipped a beat with joy. Were we back at where we had left off?

"Stop flirting with me, Jay. And I'm not yours," I reminded him but he just grinned more.

"You'll soon be, don't worry," he said with a wider grin. "So did you miss me, baby doll?" he asked with a smirk as his eyes roamed all over me, shamelessly checking me out. My heart skipped a beat seeing his gorgeous smile and the need in his eyes. I could drown in him and fall head over heels for him all over again if I wasn't careful.

"No, I didn't. I've been busy," I lied, looking at the file cabinet to look for the file. My head had turned to mush and I hardly could concentrate on what I had come here to do. That was the effect Tristan had upon me.

"I don't believe you. How long will you deny it?" he chuckled. The devil! He knew how exactly I felt for him even after all these years.

"I've got to go. Anna's waiting for me," I said, extricating myself from his grip and escaping to my office, leaving him standing there with a frown on his face as if he wanted to talk to me more.

I rushed into my office and sat down at my desk, "I'm sorry to keep you waiting, Anna." I said apologetically but my mind was on Tristan. What was he doing there? Would he come back? Did he leave already?

"That's okay. I'd like to buy these accessories as well, Amelia," Anna told me indicating the ones she wanted. She paid for everything just as Tristan came in. Our eyes connected but I had to look away when Anna came toward us. I was aware of his hot gaze constantly fixed upon me. Anna saved my number and called Tristan, bringing him out of his daze.

"Tris, let's go. I'm done here," she said but he continued to lean against the door and watch me shamelessly much to my embarrassment. A deep blush stained my cheeks and he raised an eyebrow at me.

"Tris, stop daydreaming. I have her number," Anna whispered to him, on her way out but I heard her distinctly and my cheeks turned bright red. Tristan seemed to love the effect he was having on me. He simply winked at me and followed her out but I couldn't hide the stupid smile on my face the whole day.

I continued with my work, trying hard to forget the look on Tristan's face, his expressions, and his electrifying kiss. I didn't know whether I would ever see him again. Would he contact me? Would he take my phone number from Anna? I had no idea and no way of knowing other than waiting for his call.

With a heavy heart, I returned to my studio apartment after a hectic day at work and prepared a simple dinner for myself. Not having much energy left in me, I just ate and went to bed. I didn't have any close friends in New York, no nightlife, no clubbing. It was just working, eating, and sleeping for me. Previously my mom would ask me about my whereabouts, but after her death, it was a lonely life, with no one to call my own.

The whole week passed by, designing new wedding dresses for new clients, new faces, new acquaintances, and new work. It was exhausting, but satisfying at the same time when you are able to put a smile on the face of an expectant bride and her family.

Anna's design was ready by Friday and she was due for her first fitting. I had no idea if she would come alone or with Tristan again. Since he hadn't thought of contacting me, it was obvious that he wasn't interested in me. I dreaded meeting him again lest I made a fool of myself again in front of him. Despite trying to keep my composure, my heartbeats raced faster as the time of Anna's appointment came closer.

I paced nervously in my office, wringing my hands as I waited for them. Suddenly some movement on the road caught my eye from the glass window of my office. I turned excitedly to see two cars pull up, a dark blue Mercedes and a white BMW. To my disappointment, Anna got off the car along with a hunk who looked exactly like Tristan, but younger. Was he Anna's groom?

I left the window disappointed that Tristan did not want to meet me again. Cadence knocked to summon me for the fitting. I went down to the fitting area which had lots of cozy seating arrangements and wall-to-wall mirrors and a huge changing room for trying out dresses.

Anna came in smiling, along with a middle-aged lady who had the same jade green eyes as Tristan.

"Amy, meet Tristan's mom, Audrey. Mom, this is Amelia McGrath," she introduced us and turned around as three men entered the room. Their looks indicated that they were brothers, with the same curly brown hair, same facial features, and same height, and muscular physique.

Anna drew the one who seemed to be the eldest amongst the three. "Amy, this is my fiancé, Stefan. He's Tristan's elder brother." She smiled lovingly into his eyes as the others cleared their throats.

"Hello, Stefan," I greeted him stiffly and he nodded.

I gazed at the two of them and felt a pang in my heart. I wished Tristan would be here and look at me in the same way Anna's groom looked at her!
