Chapter 99: Chapter 99

Chapter 99 Back to the living

THIRD PERSON'S POV

His body was on the ground as his mate hugged him with tears falling down her face, hoping that he would come back to life.

Her tears kept falling as she rocked his body back and forth.

"Please wake up! I need you. We need you. Don't leave me," she cried.

Uriah walked over to his brother's side and was about to touch him when Maia stopped him.

"Don't you dare lay a finger on him! This is all your fault!" She spat with so much anger.

Uriah opened his mouth as if he was about to say something but then decided not to. Regret could be seen on his face, but it was a bit too late for it.

"Where am I?" Lucius asked.

The lady in white who was looking at an invisible mirror-like turned around.

"You are somewhere in between life and the door to death," she replied.

Lucius looked around with his brows furrowed.

"I am sure you have a lot of questions, but I can only answer a few of them. People are waiting for you," she said.

"What happened?" He asked.

"You transformed into a much more terrifying monster, and your body couldn't handle it. Tatiana is already dead, but your body went through so much trauma that it is barely hanging on a piece of thread," she replied.

"What do you mean? What does this have to do with Tatiana?"? He asked.

"She cursed you, and her death was the only thing that could lift your curse," she explained.

"If her death lifts my curse, then what am I doing here?" He asked.

"When she cursed you, it came with conditions. If your brother still hated you after five years, you would be a beast forever," she replied.

He looked at her with a face full of emotions.

"Does that mean I will be a beast forever?" He asked, his voice almost a whisper.

"There are more important things you need to worry about other than being a beast for the rest of your life," the lady said, pointing at the invisible mirror-like.

Lucius looked behind the lady and saw his mate rocking his lifeless body as she cried and begged him to wake up.

"No! Am I dead? You said that I was not!" Lucius exclaimed to the lady.

"I said that you are in between life and death, which means the final decision is up to you. Whether you want to live or die, it is up to you. Unfortunately, you don't have a lot of time to decide," she replied.

"I don't understand. How is it my decision?" He asked.

"Come and take a seat," the lady said.

Floating chairs suddenly appeared magically behind them.

"You, your body, and your wolf have been through a lot over the past five years. A part of you wants all the pain to stop while a part of you keeps pushing you forward. Now the question is, what do you want?" The lady explained.

Lucius looked at the invisible mirror-like and saw all the people he cared about the most. His eyes welled up with tears as he watched his mate cry.

"What do I have to do to get back?" He asked.

"You have to want it. Follow the string to your heart that connects you to your loved ones," she replied.

"How do I know which one it would be?" He asked again.

"You will know," she simply replied.

With a snap of her fingers, they were suddenly in a bright room with a door at the corner of the room.

"Always remember, follow your heart, Lucius. Miracles happen to those who believe in them," the lady said before she disappeared into thin air.

Lucius was left in the room all by himself with no instructions on what he had to do. Remembering what the lady told him, he followed his guts and opened the door. It was pitch black, and he could not see if there was even anything in front of him or what awaited him at the end.

"Lucius, please. I need you. Don't leave me!" He heard the voice of his mate.

"Maia?" He called out.

When no one replied, he yelled out her name again. This time it was louder than the last.

"Maia!" He yelled.

He was pretty devastated when he did not hear any response at all.

"How am I supposed to know which way to go or what to follow in this pitch-black room?" He complained to no one in particular.

'Follow the strings from your heart that will lead you back to your loved ones.' The voice echoed in his head.

He closed his eyes and followed the voice of his mate. A couple of minutes later, he saw a bright light at the end of what looked like a hallway.

A smile of hope spread on his face.

"Maia," he uttered as he ran towards the source of light.

As he reached the end of the hall, he was welcomed with a bright light that he could barely see anything else.

"Lucius?" His mate's voice brought him back to reality.

"Welcome back to the land of the living, King Alpha!" Neal exclaimed with a smile on his face.

Lucius opened his eyes and came face to face with his beautiful mate.

"You gave me quite a scare," she said.

He tried to speak, but instead, growls came out from his mouth.

'What happened?' He asked through the mind link.

'You were dead for quite some time,' she replied as sadness was visible in her thoughts.

Before Lucius could even ask more questions, he felt his bones crack, and an intense pain shot through his body.

His body was changing, and everyone around him feared for what was about to come.

Maia, Neal, and Uriah stood a couple of feet away from Lucius as he crouched and growled in pain.

'Your pain is over, my child,' a familiar voice said in Lucius' mind.

After ten excruciating minutes, Lucius lay on the ground as he returned to his usual self.

"The curse has been broken!" Maia exclaimed excitedly, running over to her mate, who had no more energy left in his body.

The lady smiled as she watched them from her invisible mirror-like.

"They have fought well," she said.
