Chapter 98: Chapter 98

Chapter 98 Death

MAIA'S POV

Everything happened so fast. One moment, Lucius was arguing with Tatiana about her sick, twisted mentality. The next moment, he turned into a monster-like creature. It was worse than the hideous beast that he turned to every full moon.

Before any of us could even react, I saw Uriah stab Tatiana from the corner of my eye, which caused me to stop in my tracks and focus my attention on them. I was in a state of shock for a couple of seconds until Lucius's groan brought me out of my trance.

I quickly ran over to him and hoped that my touch and our mate bond would help calm him down.

"Lucius!" I exclaimed.

He was clawing his head out as he growled out in pain.

'Lucius, talk to me. Tell me what's happening!' I exclaimed through the mind link.

Lucius looked at me, and his eyes were red. They were bloody- red, and the veins on his body were popping out. He was in beast form but was ten times scarier than his cursed form.

"Lucius, calm down. It's me – Maia," I said, holding my hands out.

He growled at me, which made me withdraw my hand back in fear.

I was looking at him with tears in my eyes. I had never felt so much fear until that day.

'Avi, what do I do? He is not himself right now,' I asked.

'I don't know. I can't even reach out to Lucian,' she said.

'I am worried.' I replied.

My conversation with Avi was interrupted when another growl broke out. Neal was quick enough to jump right in front of me before Lucius jumped in front of us.

"Lucius! Stop for a second and think! She is your mate! What are you doing?" Neal yelled.

Lucius did not listen to a word he said. Instead, he let out a growl and attacked Neal.

Everything was happening so fast that I had barely enough time to think and react.

"This is for my mom. I hope you rot in hell." I heard Uriah say before stabbing Tatiana in the heart.

It was like someone poured a bucket of ice-cold water on me.

By the time I was able to look at my surroundings, Lucius was a couple of feet away from me. He looked like he was ready to murder me.

I slowly backed away from him as he took steps closer to me. I did not stop until I tripped on a dead wolf.

"Lucius, it's me. It's Maia. I am your mate," I whimpered.

I was shit-scared as he inched closer to me. I quietly prayed that a miracle would happen.

Just as he was about to pounce on me, Uriah came out of nowhere and pushed Lucius.

"Lucius, stop it! Think about what you are doing! I know you are somewhere there. Fight this evilness. Fight for the sake of your mate!" Uriah exclaimed.

Lucius was about to claw Uriah's face when he suddenly crouched on the ground. He was clawing the ground as he growled so loudly.

It pained me to see him in so much pain and not able to help him. As much as I wanted to, Neal stopped me from going near him.

"It is not safe, Queen Luna. We don't know if he can still feel the mate bond or not. Until we know for sure, you can't be anywhere near him," Neal said.

"But, Neal, he needs me now more than ever. I have to at least try," I argued.

Without even waiting for Neal's reply, I ran to Lucius' side and held his face.

"My love, I know you can hear me. I know that it hurts so much, but please hold on for me. Don't let go. I need you. Let's fight this together," I cried.

Lucius stared at me with those red eyes as he growled at me.

I knew that being that close to him could end with two results - either he would kill me or remember me. I had to take the risk and find myself.

Instead of cowering away, I hugged him. I felt him tense a bit in my arms before he pushed me away.

"Lucius." I whimpered, with tears falling down my face.

"Undo the curse you put on my brother, Tatiana! Undo it!" I heard Uriah yell.

I turned my head to where he was and saw how he forced Tatiana to undo it.

"It is too late. He is long gone. I have done my revenge," Tatiana said with a smirk on her bloody face.

"Aarrgghh!" Uriah yelled as he stabbed Tatiana again, which ended her life.

I knelled on the ground as tears kept rolling down my face.

"Come on, Lucius. Please fight for me. Fight for your people," I said in a weak voice.

I saw Uriah approach Lucius, who was growling and clawing in pain.

"Come on, Lucius. Didn't you say you were strong? Get the fuck up and prove it. Go on?" Uriah yelled as he pushed Lucius to the ground.

What Uriah was doing angered me more than it helped me in any way.

"Stop! Just stop, Uriah! You are doing more damage instead of fixing anything. Are you happy now? Did you finally get what you wanted? Huh?" I yelled.

He looked at me, and his face softened.

"I am so sorry, Maia. I had no idea that Tatiana was lying to me. All this time, I thought it was Lucius' fault. I have hurt a lot of people because of my stupidity," Uriah apologized.

"It's a little too late for that, Uriah. You have caused so much pain and death to everyone," I replied, walking over to Lucius.

"Maia -" was all Uriah got to say before I cut him off.

"I don't want to hear another thing from you," I spat.

I couldn't help but cry when Lucius started throwing up.

"Lucius!" I exclaimed, running over to his side.

Neal and the other guards had to hold him down to stop clawing at us.

I cupped his face and stared into those fiery red eyes.

"Please come back to me," I whispered.

A few minutes later, his body started shaking as his bones were cracking. They had to let him go as we all watched what was happening.

When the shaking stopped, I thought that it was over. I did not expect what came next.

Yes, it was over. His life was over. He lay on the ground lifeless. No heartbeat.

"No! Lucius!" I cried as I hugged him.
