Chapter 93: Chapter 93
Chapter 93 Moment of confession
MAIA'S POV
The moment Lucius heard the words "under attack", he went hysterical. It took me all my strength, mentally and physically, to stop him from lashing out.
'Listen to me! I know that you are worried about the safety of the people, but you can't go out right now looking like this. This will only prove that the rumors are true even though it was in the past. You have to trust Neal and the rest of the pack to hold them back while we wait for the full moon to pass, okay?' I exclaimed through the mind link.
He stopped for a second as he looked me in the eye. I cupped his beastly face as I let out a sigh.
"They are going to be fine. They will be," I murmured.
To say that I was calm would be a huge lie. I was shit-scared about everything, but I knew that I needed to stay strong for the sake of our pack and my mate.
'Neal, what's going on out there? How are you guys doing?' I asked through the mind link.
I felt the whole world stop while I waited for a reply from Neal.
'Sorry, Queen Luna. My hands were quite full. We are managing. What about you? How are things down there?' He replied.
'Oh, thank the Moon Goddess! I was quite worried when you did not reply right away. What is the update out there? Any casualties? How many are there?' I asked impatiently.
'It is quite messy, but not that much. No casualties. Thanks to Alpha Cassian's pack. They came at the perfect time,' he replied.
'Alpha Cassian?' I asked.
'Yes, Queen Luna. He called hours before the attack happened. He said that his neighboring pack had made movements hours ago, so he had sent some reinforcements on the way as well,' he answered.
'That was really kind of Alpha Cassian. All right. Please take care, Neal. As soon as Lucian can come out and fight, we will be out there. Please keep me updated as well,' I said.
'Yes, Queen Luna,' he replied.
I looked at my mate, who was already asleep on my lap.
'Oh, Moon Goddess, please protect my people. I really hope that we did not trust a mole. A miracle would be really great right now, too. Our people needed Lucius, but not in this state. If there was anything that I could do, please show me. I would do anything,' I cried to myself.
I quietly cried while staring at my mate, who fainted out of exhaustion.
'I would do anything for my mate and my pack, even if it were a night of becoming a beast myself,' I added.
If only life was like a fairytale, I would have wished upon my fairy godmother to trade places with my mate. Unfortunately, life was a harsh reality one could barely accept.
Minutes of wishing and waiting turned into hours.
Before I knew it, it was almost the crack of dawn.
'Queen Luna,' I heard Neal's voice.
'Neal! Please tell me that you are not hurt,' I exclaimed, extremely worried from the tone of his voice.
'No, I am not, but we are starting to get tired. A little help from the Alpha would be really great,' he replied.
'The doctor and I will try to see if there is any way we can have his curse expedited of some sort. Until then, please stay strong. We'll be coming for you,' I said.
'Thank you, Queen Luna.' he replied.
I tried to sound as courageous as possible, even though all I wanted to do was just whimper.
"Doctor, please tell me that you have any serum that we can use to have him return to his human form," I begged.
"I am sorry, Queen Luna, but I don't have anything for that," she replied.
I felt myself breaking, but I knew that I had to stay strong. I immediately wiped the tear that fell on my face and took a deep breath.
"Lucius? I am really sorry, but you have to wake up. Our pack needs you. Please," I whispered, slightly shaking him.
I heard a low growl escape his lips as he opened his eyes.
"Hey, handsome. How are you feeling?" I asked as soon as his eyes met mine.
His murderous eyes turned into a soft, looking one as I cupped his face.
'Why were you crying?' He asked through the mind link.
'It's nothing. I am sorry to disturb your rest, but our pack needs reinforcement from their King Alpha,' I replied.
'Why didn't you tell me that hours ago? Are they okay? How is Neal? Is he hurt?' He asked, worried about everyone.
'Hey, hey, hey. Listen. They are okay for now. As much as they need you, I can't let you walk out that door looking like this. The moment they see you, they will attack you and kill you. Even if they catch you alive, they will surely torture you and kill you slowly, and I can't let any of those happen,' I said.
'Don't worry, my Queen. I will not let them catch me,' he replied, trying to get up.
I stopped him before he could even do so.
'Lucius, I don't doubt your capabilities, but you are not at your strongest right now, especially with the sun rising. You will be at your weakest. I will only allow you to walk out that door unless you are back to your normal self,' I insisted.
'I want nothing else but to be back to my old self so that I can help the pack. But how are we going to do that?' He asked.
'Try to think of your human self, just like what you do when you try to shift back when you first shift into your wolf form?' I suggested.
He closed his eyes, and I could see that he was trying so hard. He punched the wall behind him when he did not shift to his human form.
"Hey. Calm down. It's okay. We'll keep trying until we make progress, okay?" I said as I took his hands and kissed his hairy knuckles.
He kept trying and trying, but it was not working at all. I wanted to just scream at that moment as I started feeling hopeless, but I had to stay strong and keep my poise.
'This is not working. Our people could be dying out there for all we know, and we are in here wasting our time,' he exclaimed.
'Lucius Olsen, listen to yourself! Our people could be dying out there. If you walk out that door looking like a beast, do you think that you will be alive as well?' I yelled.
He stopped for a second when he saw me starting to tear up.
'I love our people, and I care for them so badly, but what you are trying to do is suicidal,' I cried out.
He pulled me in his arms as I tried my best to keep myself together.
'I am scared of losing you. Just the thought of it is already killing me. Goddess knows that I have never loved someone as much as I love you.' I said.
He pulled back from the hug and cupped my face.
'You have no idea how happy that made me. I love you too, Maia. I love you more than anything in this world. I love you,' he replied.
Even with his hairy face, I still saw tears running down his face as we stared at each other's eyes.
