Chapter 92: Chapter 92

Chapter 92 Surprise!

MAIA'S POV

After the ceremony, I started doing the tasks I was supposed to do as a Queen Luna. It was quite overwhelming at first, but Emily and the other women at the pack house were kind enough to help me out. In a span of a week, I had got the hang of most of my tasks.

"Heading out so early?" Lucius asked as I was getting ready.

"Yup. I promised the kids that I would attend the assembly at the school today, so I had to be there before 9. Why? Do you need me for something?" I replied as I asked.

"Nothing that important. Keep me updated on your whereabouts, okay?" He said as he gave me a kiss on the head.

"I will, and don't worry. I will be home early today. Finish your work early as well, okay? It's a full moon tonight," I reminded him.

"Yes, my Queen," he said.

After making sure that I looked presentable, I left the palace with the trails of guards behind me.

As soon as I arrived at the school, the kids came running towards me as they all raced to see who would be the first to hug me. Being around those kids gave me a different feeling I hoped to get from someone I could call my own.

"Queen Luna, you came!" One of the kids exclaimed.

"Of course. I promised I would, didn't I?" I replied.

"All right, kids. Go to your seats. The assembly is about to begin," one of the teachers said.

The kids went to their seats one by one.

"I am sorry for that, Queen Luna. The kids get super excited at times," she apologized.

"No, it's okay. The kids were no trouble," I replied.

"Where would you like to sit, Queen Luna?" She asked.

I looked around and pointed at the very middle, where I could see everything clearly.

While the kids were getting ready and running to their seats, I went to my own seat. As I waited patiently, I heard and saw how excited they were with their presentation.

After a couple of minutes, the assembly began. The teachers made a couple of announcements before the first presentation. I had so much fun watching the kids dance and sing on the stage.

Once all the presentations were done, the teachers rewarded the students. As I watched them go up the stage one by one, I had this motherly feeling of being proud of their hard work.

Four hours went by. After congratulating every child and telling them how wonderful their presentations were, I went back to the palace.

"My Queen! You are back. How was the assembly?" Lucius exclaimed upon seeing me enter his office.

"It was wonderful. The kids had amazing performances," I replied with a smile on my face.

"That is great. Have you had your lunch already?" Lucius asked, pulling me close to him.

"I had a snack before I left the school," I replied.

"Great! I had them prepare lunch for us in the garden. We should go before the food gets cold," he said.

We walked to the garden where lunch was prepared for us.

After lunch, we spent the rest of the afternoon watching movies. Ever since Lucius's last extreme shift, the pack doctor has changed the antidote.

With a couple of hours left before the full moon, Lucius and I walked to the dungeons to get him all ready for his shift. As I watched Neal tie him up with silver chains, I could not help but feel pain.

"Seriously, you don't have to stay here. I will be fine. You should just rest. I will be back to my old self in a day or two," he said.

"We already talked about this, Lucius. I will be with you every full moon. We will get through this together until we find the cure to unbind the spell. Now shut up and save your energy for later," I argued.

He was about to argue more when I shot him a glare and warned him through the mind link.

'Don't you dare!' I yelled in his head.

'No, Ma'am. Yes, Ma'am,'? he replied.

"Are all these still necessary? I mean, after all the previous full moons, I think he does not need to be chained up like a dog," I asked.

The truth was that I couldn't take it seeing him being chained up to the wall when he had been doing better compared to before.

"These are all for safety purposes. We just can't risk it, especially when we don't know when he will have an extreme shift and not," Neal explained.

I knew I would not have won anyway, so I let out a defeated sigh and sat outside the cell.

Once they had him prepped for the full moon, I dismissed all of them and told them that they could come back at exactly midnight.

I sat next to him as he lay his head on my lap. We talked about random things while we waited for time to pass. This had been our routine every full moon. There was not a full moon where I was not right next to him. Somehow, the mate bond helped lessen the curse's extremities but not lift the curse itself.

"My Queen, you should go stand by the door now. I am about to shift, and I don't want to scratch you or anything accidentally," he said as he stood up.

"There is no need for that anymore, Lucius. You know it pretty well that I will not stand far away from you. My touch lessens your pain when you shift, and I can't touch you if I am standing by the door," I explained.

Before he could even argue more, his shifting process had already begun. I immediately held his arms to give him support. A couple of seconds later, the pack doctor and Neal arrived.

"Queen Luna, for your safety, I do really think that you should not be that close to the King Alpha during this stage," the pack doctor said.

"I am fine right where I am, doctor. Thank you for the concern, but my mate will not hurt me intentionally," I replied.

I tried to stay as close as possible throughout his shift to lessen the pain. Lucius started screaming, and I was worried because he had not felt that same pain intensity for quite some time.

Just as he was about to complete his first transformation, I heard Neal's heart rate spike up.

I looked at him and waited for him to start talking.

"Queen Luna, I am afraid we are under attack." It was all he needed to say for all the blood in my body to drain.

After I got over the slight shock and panic session I had, I looked Neal in the eye and said, "Go and protect the people. Don't worry about Lucius. I got him covered."

"I will be back as soon as I can, Queen Luna. Don't worry. I will be sending extra guards on my way to the field," he replied.

I looked Lucius in the eye and said, "We'll be fine. I promise not to let anything happen to you, okay? I promise."
